We're paying an older McStay $650k. He'd be a massive upgrade on Long and Mitchell who we were still trialling in that inside mid role in our 22 at the end of the year.

But I would argue there wouldn't be too many better investments of $600K out there to make our list better next year than getting a fired-up Clayton Oliver with a point or two to prove.

If they are willing to pay 50% of his salary to let him go, I would have thought they won't be asking for a top tier draft pick in the trade. Similar to our trade position when we conducted a fire sale of Brody Grundy or Adam Treloar

That sounds more like a Bernard Tomic type than Clayton Oliver.
Either way, it would be $600K for us for him to play in the VFL, and I believe we have more than a few on the list playing VFL for years so on a relative basis, I don't think this would be that bad a decision at all

I don't know the bloke at all but suspect this is more in jest than a reflection of his character.
Played more than OK footy in the back half of 2025 and has been in the top handful of midfielders at his peak.
Still only 28 years old.
Never been a huge follower of Clayton but at the rumoured 50% discount, all I'm saying is we can make (and have made) far worse list decisions than to get him in.

If a club is taking his whole contract I’d view the dees being willing to accept unders. If they are paying half suggest to me they want a half decent return.
