Big fan of Oliver’s nose candy and off-field shenanigans. Without them there would be 0 chance Collingwood could land someone of his abilities at a discount. Worth the risk for one final flag push with the oldies. Besides, we all loved Swanny, didn’t we? As long as he’s not disruptive to the team then does it really matter? All this rubbishing from media and fans might just motivate him and get him back to his best.

Or maybe he’ll be a flop but at $600k that’s not the worst gamble ever. How much were we paying Grundy and Treloar not to play for us?

If that’s his weakness we can fix that. His potential based on the highlights I’ve seen is enormous
Do you mean potential to be worse by foot than Long? He literally missed every target by foot that wasn’t a sideways dump kick.

Must have watched a different video to me. All i seen was a young kid, great size, clunking plenty of marks and backing himself to come off his man and affect plenty of contests. If were picking our KPDs based on needing footskills like Nick were in trouble

No but it greatly affected the value/quality of our list. How good is Grundy this year? We are paying him to be that good. Treloar was AA last year, we don’t have many on our list. Paying huge money to Oliver could impact money, bring in a poor player and trash the culture. Would Fly consider Oliver a winner, as Fly demands of his layers? The prospect of 1.4m and playing VFL is that a winner?

Or maybe Oliver is to us what Grundy is to Sydney and Treloar was to WB last year

As a back up key defender, does he need to do any kicks that aren’t sideways or dumps down the line?

Dean was quite good by foot but it wasn’t very useful when he got called up to AFL level.

They don’t need to be Nick, but they need to be able to hit targets in transition. That was Jack Frostesque any time he put speed on the game. Good teams will just sag off a defender like that and either make them kick long to a set zone or force the sideways dump kick that does the same (ala the Fremantle kick in that highlights package).

If you’re bringing a player in you want them to be able to one day play a role in your best 23 without having to rely on injuries. Blight looks like he can defend like Frampton, but is a worse user. Dean was a truly awful kick of the ball. Blight looks much more physically capable which is almost certainly why we’re interested.

Eagles taking big risk on Starcevich. Good player but big risk.
Yep that's what I thought too.

Considering they've just received an assistance package from the AFL, mostly due to their own poor recruiting & list management.

And I think they've had 4 of their players medically retired due to concussion.

The ignorance is mind boggling. If it's completed by trade, how is it free agency?
Your literal words were “If they match he has to stay”.

So you either got it wrong or you’re a rather poor communicator.

We’ll have to pay up for Oliver with either salary or trade capital. Melbourne aren’t going to pay his salary AND give him away for nothing.
Sorry, but you can’t tell a player that they’re fringe (not guaranteed senior games), tell them to look elsewhere, offer to pay another club to take them off your hands and then expect said club to cough up anything worthwhile.

Melbourne have completely nuked any chance of them gaining something worthwhile for Oliver, regardless of how much of his salary they’re paying.

The best thing Starfish, as my son calls him, has ever done was being Bobby's stepladder.
