Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Until wick has said no.
I will live in hope! 😉

I haven't heard anything since nor anything at all from our side.

EB was spot on with his intel the first time and I have no reason to not believe him now.

The club (I believe GW) was in his ear previously.

As for this media report... Collingwood don't have enough to satisfy them. I would imagine Melbourne are a genuine threat.

EB is usually pretty spot on, so for him having said NO, I’d be hesitant in getting excited.

Humphrey Walter and F1 sounds good to me.

Won’t get that, but add TDK compo to Charlie and we might. And I would absolutely do that in a heartbeat
GC could use the TDK compo to get in Petracca to take Humphrey’s spot and they keep their other firsts for Academy

Valid points but Humphrey has done nothing and is all potential. Hill is a proven and reliable A grade small forward who is 26 next year he is worth a first round draft pick in a trade
A grade is a stretch

Hill averages 1.15 goals per game across his career and 9.75 touches.

This year Humphrey averaged over 15 touches and just over 1 goal a game

So do you think he rejected our advances specifically or Suns just wouldn't even entertain it?

I think the issue is clubs know that we need Charlie gone in order to get Cody next year. Swans won't give up more than they need to get the deal done

I believe it's the latter rather than the former but I don't have that info.

Honestly, I think our chances of getting Humphrey were contingent on a Charlie trade to GC and it's clear they've prioritized a different direction.

We don't have to trade Charlie this year for that to happen.

If he was out of contract but he has a pretty hefty 4 year deal, so 40-50 is pretty close.
Is it true that that whoever draft's a player like this has to honour his existing contract, or is it voided and the new club sets conditions that are suitable?

I don’t reckon we do, we trade out second and third round next year and our next pick is 2027 first round so you go into deficit.
There will be ways around the AFLs rules you can bet your house on it

I would be banking future first round picks IF we can't land any significant A graders this year. Do the deal I mentioned to cover Walker and use those banked picks to go for a high level point of difference player or two next year. I think we still need to be all about our next uprising being 2027, there's a couple of years work to do for us.

Keep our 2026 1st, get Sydney's F1st and another F1st Sydney have to get. Next year trade our future 1st (2027) and current 2nd for another sides first. Go for Sydney's future 2nd as well.

Gives us 4 first round picks in 2026.

Use a salary dump player or two for next year to cover salary hole left by departing players. Open the cap space right up at the end of 2026 with the departures of Curnow, DeKoning, Silvagni, McGovern, Fantasia, Docherty, Hollands etc. this year and the departures of Saad, Durdin, Boyd, Acres, Binns, Fogarty maybe Haynes and Newman end of next year.

Take Walker with one or two of those 1st. If Sydney bomb it may be just one. Take Butters as a FA. Use the other 2 or 3 first rounders to fill other needs.

Plenty of situations where we come away really strong from losing Curnow and trading strategically. A lot to play out, it all has to be doable and agreed upon.

I think the timing is probably right to let Curnow go and the club probably know that and he can be used to fix a lot of what is wrong with the list. I think if it's not done this year then the ship has sailed.

For what it's worth I feel comfortable with first round picks attached to Sydney. Happy not to have to go to the draft this year and wait to get high end senior talent next year. Get the feeling the Swans had their crack at it last year and have crashed, could be mini-rebuild time for them like it is for us and perhaps Horse realised that and the current coach hasn't.
Like everyone feeling sad when we’re about to get a first Round pick in Dean

he has a contract and he’s entitled to that money, if they trade him, they are on the hook for that amount or whatever they negotiate with the new buyer.

If he wanted to leave and others didn’t wants him due to his contract, he can renegotiate any deal he wants.

Wingard requesting a trade was what ended his time with Hawthorn

There wasn't much push back from Hawthorn at the request despite his popularity among Hawks supporters.

Dimma believes in his ego.

I think their players feel a bit differently.

I was asked to expand on this privately so I'll do so here.

I think Dimma is leaning on his history of working with players who came with issues. People point to examples like Dusty, Brandon Ellis, among others.

For me, there’s a big difference between those guys and JUH. Dusty and Ellis might have had their problems, but they were competitive beasts. They were self-motivated. Dimma gave them the space to be themselves, and in return they gave everything when it mattered most.

JUH has shown the opposite so far in his career. He’s always been the most talented in his age group and has been able to coast on that. Turning it around would be a complete shift for him.

I believe that once you get to this level you are either self-motivated or you’re not.
