I imagine that the Dees would either want a first round pick for Oliver, or the acquiring team to take on most/all of his contracted wage. I doubt we can get him for a 2nd or 3rd rounder AND expect the Dees to subsidise his wages. Its one or the other, surely?
Dees have said they're willing to pay half his yearly contract.

I’m a yes to Oliver if the club feel he can evolve his work in the contest from a ball hunter to more defensively minded. The guys been loose for most of his career and it has never impacted him until he got that hamstring last year. You’re talking all of those accolades and at one point he was on track to be the greatest ever Dee that doesn’t happen by accident despite being an absolute muppet.

The handling by the Demons means they’ve effectively pissed any chance of getting something decent in return up the wall. Or they’ll never get a player from Oliver’s managers stable again! In a better environment than the one that was completely devoid of leadership the past two years he’ll turn it around. The only issue I have is with a fit JDG we get a bit too offensive minded with Oliver in the mix so he’d need to be prepared to change how he plays.
His manager is Nick Gieschen at Connors Sports so that would be a hell of a blow if that happens.

Going by reported discussions with King today, he doesn't take changes to the way he plays very well.

I said Bobby, not Beau.
I know, I'm saying I'd love to see Humphrey play alongside Beau, since they're both in similar positions. I'd much rather not see Bobby go though. I was just describing the combination of Humphrey/Beau if that were to happen.

You said a swap of Bobby for Humphrey. If that were to happen, Humphrey would play alongside Beau lol

Disappointed we didn't have a red hot crack at Worpell. Glad we've apparently gone cold on May but I reckon Oliver is worth the risk.

He's a four-time B&F winner and three-time AA rep. A great ball-winner, tackle-breaker and ball distributor by hand. Having Clarry feed The Daicai, DeGoey and McCreery could be pretty exciting. He just needs to keep the handball-to-kick ratio at 2:1 or 3:1, not 1:1 or less.

Given we have no useful picks to trade, I imagine that we'd have to agree to take on most of his salary.
I think the Worpel was more committed to the Cats because he originally is a Geelong Falcon and has family etc back in Geelong.

In what world does a club tell a player that they should look elsewhere, aren’t guaranteed best 23 if they stay, offer salary relief to tempt clubs, and then expect anything worthwhile back in a trade? They’ve literally told the world that he’s regarded as a fringe player at Melbourne, he has no trade value anymore.

From what I’ve read there’s a significant disparity between re-tooling him to be more defensively minded and essentially relegating him from the midfield group entirely… That said his Insta story hinted at it not being such an issue.

That’s what gets overlooked in these scenarios. The Dees have obviously attempted this move as a means to get something for him, but the way they’ve handled it will only serve to piss off Oliver and Gieschen!

It ultimately may not be us, but whoever gets Oliver will get him Jesse Hogan cheap.

The insta story where he said the Casey guernsey looked good on him? 😂

Didn’t Port come through with the trade on Houston last year after the board said no because they feared retribution from Connors for backing out on the trade at the 21st hr?

Melbourne being prepared to pay $700k of Oliver's contract for 5 years is the biggest "stay away" alarm of all time. There won't be many takers and I don't think we'll be one of them.

If Dees are paying that much of his contract they'll expect quite a good pick. It becomes a trade for contract more than anything. $700k is reported as the most they'd be prepared to pay, leaving the receiving team to pay $600-$700k. Even if true, any deal could involve the receiving team paying more than that and it becomes even riskier.

Dees need to clear out Oliver, at any cost, because he's a culture killer and they want to rebuild their club's reputation. He's not a salary dump he's a character dump and that's a huge red flag.

Even putting all this aside I've never been a big fan of Oliver's game, even at his best. What he's dished up the last two years has been quite a way below that and I'm not interested.

We need to be looking for quality players to add to our squad. Spending draft picks and decent money on Oliver hurts that significantly if he doesn't work out (a definite risk). No thanks.

They've been trying to offload Oliver for 3 years, so if they're expecting anything close to a first round pick for him, they're dreaming.
You wonder how much of this is Oliver's doing, and how much is due to the toxic environment at Melbourne.
Good luck to Checkers if he's going there!
