Speculation from Cal Twomey today that Tasmania will make Daicos their #1 target ahead of their debut season in 2028.

Likely offer:

  • $3m upfront sign-on bonus
  • 8 year contract at $2m per year
  • Further club marketing payments
  • Captaincy
  • Third party deals with club sponsors

Total earnings over his time at Tassie would be north of $20 million.

Daicos is contracted until 2029 so should he request a move for 2028, a trade will be required. Tasmania would be able to satisfy Collingwood with three top 10 draft selections that they are required to trade.

An 8 year deal would take Daicos through to 2035, when he would be 32 years of age. At this point a return to Victoria and Collingwood for a heartwarming 1-2 year career swansong would be possible, in the mould of Gary Ablett at Geelong. Daicos is one of the game’s most professional athletes, obsessive about his diet, condition and preparation. Unexpected major injury aside, he is very capable of playing into his mid 30s.

Former Pies list manager Derek Hine now works for the Devils, while former Pies coach Nathan Buckley is hot favourite to land the job as inaugural Senior Coach.

I think they get him if they do target him. Nobody is turning their back on $20 million. It’s just good timing by Daicos who may land the ultimate golden goose.

They talk about his family at Collingwood… I don’t think Peter or anybody in Nick’s family would be telling him to knock back a deal that means he and the next few generations will never have to work a day in their lives.

Twomey said that today?

Pretty sure everyone has been saying it since the AFL announced that Tassie would get a team.

Given Nick got his brother an extended contract you would assume he will do the same again.

Its obviously a lot clearer now that the AFL have announced what Tassie have to spend, and the draft picks they will have to trade.

More chance of Essendon playing in and winning a final in 2026 than Nick Daicos going to Tassie.

Absolutely zero chance of occurring.
Bruh, Naicos himself basically said he'd be interested when asked earlier in the year.

Not saying it is likely but the amount of money we are talking about here is insane, i wouldn't rule out a single player in the league from being a chance to take it.

He's been a key player in a flag, earned our respect and loyalty.

He may want to start a family, if he goes for the money then he's doing the right thing by them.

I want him to stay but could not blame him if he takes a payday.

So 20 million right? Lets call that the number.

He likely makes 15 million over the same timeframe at the Pies.

What can Tasmania offer him after football?? What does Eddie tee up for him after football?

Got to weigh up all these things. Pies are in the top 2 of clubs in the league to look after their players post football (WCE the other).

that was the exact argument re TDK. some people may not have any interest in staying in the footy circles. get money now, set himself up and do their own thing away from footy.

Considering Daicos old man is basically the Lavar Ball of the AFL, i reckon Nick might hand around to milk opportunities dry.

I think most would feel the same. The money gets to a certain point where you wouldn’t blame anybody for taking it.

A bit like Ablett, feels like it might just come along at the right time for Daicos.

The upside for Collingwood is they probably get an insane trade return.

Collingwood coteries would make up the difference.

Surely thay offer this to Washcroft? He's younger and better.
Brisbane's list is primed for the next decade with Lohmann/Fletcher/W.Ashcroft/L.Ashcroft/Morris/Gallop/Wilmot/Marshall (all now premiership players some dual) and soon to be Anable all under 23 and then Bailey/Rayner/McCluggage all under 28 with another 3-4 years in their prime

Collingwood have Nick himself under 23 and Quaynor/Schultz/J.Daicos/Hill (maybe)/McCreery under 28

Pretty obvious why Nick would jump ship when the window is closed for 20 mill +

With all the concessions the new Tassie club is getting, it makes total sense for them to go after a potential GOAT. The Suns did the same thing with Gary Ablett jr when they threw a massive offer at him, and I can easily see Tasmania trying the same with Nick Daicos. If that happens, it just adds to Nick's case as one of the absolute greats of the AFL.

I wouldn’t be looking forward to playing Tassie if Daicos is out there tearing teams apart.

Think he'd be better than GAJ for a new expansion side.

GAJ and his god squad were toxic for the Suns. Didn't have much time for anyone who wasn't a part of his clique.

Think Naicos has his head screwed on properly and seems to be embracing the role of a young leader.

The Joe Daniher model of retirement. Make your millions, go be a beach bum for the rest of your life.

Sounds pretty damn good, tbh.

Tassie have to spend the 5 million sign on money by 2028 while Nick is OOC in 2029. The whole thing is not lining up. Like the OP said it would require a trade. Would 3 top 5 picks be enough to temp Collingwood to trade a 25 year old Daicos just entering his prime. I'm not sure it would be enough.
