Straight swap for liam ryan, maybe a later pick our way depending on how much salary we're clearing for the saints.

You wouldn't want to play Viney and Steele in the same midfield, and Viney just re-signed for three years.

Give it a couple of days, he might not have had his chat with Steven King yet..

Would be a handy addition on a HFF.

Has lost a yard of pace but is great overhead mark and a good kick for goal.

Word is that his contract was heavily front-ended (like Marshall) so the remaining years are very affordable.
FWIW, this is how the Herald Sun summarised the 2025 salaries of your highest paid players.

Article came out about a month ago.

Going from ~$1m to "very affordable" in 12 months would be quite a dramatic front-loading.

Not the same player he was in 2020/21 but think he can still play a role

Only going to be 30 next season so not impossible that he could get back somewhere near his best. Think going back to GWS would be the best fit, their midfield completely drops off after their main two

West Coast should chase him but he hasn’t had any team success in his career so I think he should try and find a contender first

Would be pretty interested in him for the crows if he was cheap. Any reports on his salary and what the Saints would expect in a trade?

Been saying it for weeks now....involve him in the Liam Ryan deal - WCE take on his (likely inflated) salary, add another year and offer the opportunity to transition to coaching.

I doubt it happens but he's exactly the type we need.

More likely he lobs back to GWS when they decide Clayton Oliver isn't worth the hassle.
Would almost guarantee Steele would have almost zilch left to pay on his contract lol

Nah, in all seriousness, it sounds like they aren’t trying to push him out, just letting him know it’s an option if he wants to do it.

The saints will want to feel like they have a form of a win; so any form of 2nd round makes sense for me.
What would you guess his remaining salary to be?

Must be cooked stay away Essendon

We'd play him as a half-forward but if he wants to play solid midfield time in 2026, he'd be keeping one of our kids out. He knows that and the club knows that.

I hope Essendon stay away also. Jack deserves better than that dumpster fire of a club.

He would bee keeping one of our younger players out too. We might be a dumpster right now but in the long run Essendon will come out on top whilst Saints will continue to finish mid table by topping up

From what I understand the ball is more or less in his court.

He is happy to stay and wont move just to move sideways pecking order wise in the midfield of the club

Also reportedly said he has done the hard yards over a long period of mediocre results at the club so would like to be here for if everything goes right the part where we play finals consistently.

Loves the club do not think he would move to a team in a worse position than us

By all reports it seems as though he is willing to stay to see some success at the Saints before the end of his career even if that is in a diminished role.
Couldn't see him going to Essendon, West Coast, North or Melbourne.
If a team currently in the window like a Hawthorn or Adelaide could sell him a vision of where he would fit in their system he would have to look at it you would think.

I think he would also have to be realistic - even though the idea of joining a club currently contending, or hanging in there at St Kilda to see if they ascend beyond the middle of the ladder at some point, will appeal, he may not be playing AFL at all in those circumstances. He hasn't shown particular skill outside of his main role - which is a notoriously limiting position in the league.

St Kilda are aware of this and likely looking at his salary and remaining 2 years (or is it 3?) and thinking 'hmmmm this is a guy we don't really see a place for...'

Maybe Adelaide likes the idea of a Matt Crouch replacement or Hawthorn want to add 2 29+ former club Captains in one off season, but I don't know if Jack gets games for either team. GWS would make sense as his old club...but again, does he have a spot there? Does he simply push Coniglio out of the team? (He'll probably be injured, so there may be a chance there)

So as the old saying goes, Jack may not be in a position to be 'choosy' and playing out his days at rebuilding club may be the most effective way to continue getting games at the top level.
