I think that’s more than half true. All of Steele S, Crisp, Lipinski, JDG, Long, Houston and Steele were low on output for the type of game we needed in order to get over Brisbane. If you look at it purely on output at ground level it’s quite staggering we were in it so deep into the match.

As part of looking into Oliver’s numbers I did notice he was elite for ground ball gets in 2025. His 8.4 per game were ranked 14th league wide and our nearest was Daicos at 6.8 per game ranked 39th. For context the Lions had 4 players ranked ahead of Nick (Neale, McCluggage, Dunkley and Ashcroft). Nick needs help at ground level…

Totally, that’s why I find it crazy that Cox cops heat when I can really only count Elliott, Pez and Josh who clearly were at the level with a couple of others thereabouts just like Cox was for his actual role. It’s all about roles and we were soundly beaten inside and outside in the middle and destroyed in D50 ground balls, I’ve got 15 losers before I point the finger at Cox.

I’m conflicted about Oliver. I want more elite mids without a doubt but he is on my black list because I can’t stand how bad his kicking is. Proper worst skills in comp levels. Add to that attitude issues and big question mark on defensive efforts (I don’t equate inside beast and clearance win with defensive running) and I’s rather we stay away. But… at half price and if the pick price isn’t too steep it’s still tempting even for a skeptic like me. I’m almost just as excited at the Humphrey interest because it would rule us out of Oliver as I am for Humphrey’s potential addition.

All in all I’m for resisting temptation this trade season. Keep the salary cap powder dry for Rowell Pt2 in two years, he specifically didn’t sign long term so I think we’re a big chance and Nick will still just be 24 then.

Do Hawthorn even have the trade capital to get both Merrett and Humphrey? I'm not tuned into how things are moving over there, but seems ridiculous. I'd love to have him but he seems most likely to go to Melbourne, though I trust Leppa has something up his sleeve for us.

Morris and Xander trying to out scoop each other.
It’s cute.

So basically most Vic clubs

So is this going to be another three sheets to the wind night where you just randomly take swipes at people in the thread?
The night is still young.
I’m on the porch wearing my 2023 premiership cap.
Cops just drive by.

Anything can happen in Footscray. I wish you were here to get crazy with me.

I might distance myself from Cox because I thought he was in the awful category I just wanted to add some context to what you’re saying. Also that we weren’t that far off despite a lot going against us on PF day…

We can do both Rowell and Humphrey so long as we don’t need to trade for Rowell. We’d need to move Hill to make it happen, but by the time Rowell’s next contract rolls around you’re looking at at least $4m pa in contracts coming off and at least $2m not going around again.

FWIW I can’t believe some were so quick to believe the denial of Humphrey’s manager and even to pot Edmund and McGuire. They know what’s happening and Humphrey’s manager is not going to speculate on him moving until they know it can happen.

I think he's just trying to get a pay rise from the Suns.

Very true, Elliott style. He's got a good amount of years left on his contract though.

There's also the possibility that he sees himself having to compete with Petracca in the midfield now. But also wtf do I know.

Edmund and Xander could do a stand up routine at the comedy festival.

I appreciate the invite. Unfortunately I have to dogsit tonight and I also live in another state.

If you make it to my local pub tomorrow you will see me there, however.

Hopefully. Though it’s a bit like Port with Houston and Butters. The fact that we got one on the cheap means the second would be that much harder as no clubs want to be seen too weak at the table (and any realistic scenario for Humphrey at the Pies means the trade price is cheaper than market rate).

Melbourne getting away with murder here.

Despite me hoping we were into him…Christian Petracca at $1.4m/year should have been a partial salary dump. If Gold Coast are letting Melbourne off the $1.4m hook for the next 4 years and still paying anything material in a trade (especially Humphrey) then they have rocks in their head.
At no point have Melbourne attempted to push Petracca out or hinted they don’t want to keep him. I’m not sure you really understand how a salary dump works.

Getting Humphrey now to me is similar to when Adelaide got Rankine. Could be getting a payer that could be about to explode.

Reminds be of de goey but with more footy smarts (I.e. a more natural footballer). Doesn’t really have a weakness from what I have seen. Maybe his tank, or maybe he doesn’t play mid more purely because of a Rowell, Anderson and Miller.

Tom Morris has reported multiple times that Melbourne are happy for Petracca to leave but they didn’t want to be seen as pushing it as it would impact their bargaining power.
