I think that’s more than half true. All of Steele S, Crisp, Lipinski, JDG, Long, Houston and Steele were low on output for the type of game we needed in order to get over Brisbane. If you look at it purely on output at ground level it’s quite staggering we were in it so deep into the match.
As part of looking into Oliver’s numbers I did notice he was elite for ground ball gets in 2025. His 8.4 per game were ranked 14th league wide and our nearest was Daicos at 6.8 per game ranked 39th. For context the Lions had 4 players ranked ahead of Nick (Neale, McCluggage, Dunkley and Ashcroft). Nick needs help at ground level…
Totally, that’s why I find it crazy that Cox cops heat when I can really only count Elliott, Pez and Josh who clearly were at the level with a couple of others thereabouts just like Cox was for his actual role. It’s all about roles and we were soundly beaten inside and outside in the middle and destroyed in D50 ground balls, I’ve got 15 losers before I point the finger at Cox.
I’m conflicted about Oliver. I want more elite mids without a doubt but he is on my black list because I can’t stand how bad his kicking is. Proper worst skills in comp levels. Add to that attitude issues and big question mark on defensive efforts (I don’t equate inside beast and clearance win with defensive running) and I’s rather we stay away. But… at half price and if the pick price isn’t too steep it’s still tempting even for a skeptic like me. I’m almost just as excited at the Humphrey interest because it would rule us out of Oliver as I am for Humphrey’s potential addition.
All in all I’m for resisting temptation this trade season. Keep the salary cap powder dry for Rowell Pt2 in two years, he specifically didn’t sign long term so I think we’re a big chance and Nick will still just be 24 then.
