If Melbourne end up with 7 and 8 for Petraca. I'd definitely split 2 with 24

Leaves us with 1, 7, 8 and 17

Busy night 1, collect Banners and NGA night 2. Perfect

Melbourne won’t end up with 7 and 8 for Trac.

I know Gold Coast are a bit of a meme when it comes to trading but they aren’t doing that

Pretty sold on Duursma now.
Hoping with our limited spots we trade up.
Would love to come out of the draft with Duursma, Sharp and Cummings.
Think that would be the perfect combo of skills and attributes.

If we can save a second rounder, have a punt on Curtin and see if he can make a good kpd.
Then hopefully get fs/nga on rookie list or leave one spot open to match at least one of them.

Not me but I’m hoping like crazy it does for the Dons and Melbourne and they both want to trade up for pick 2. I’m assuming Dees get 7 and 8 for Petracca in this scenario. I’d happily do 2 and 17 (and possibly a swap of R2 to give a bit more back) for 5 and 6 and a straight swap 2+17 for 7+8

I watched him closely at Shark Park and he hardly got out of a jog in normal game time.
Who you taking at 5, 6, 7 and 8?

Sharp, Cumming and? ?

Wanna bet?
Not overly? I’m just incredibly shocked you had him at 8? Reach of the century. Think he’s an alright player but I don’t think he’s gonna light the world up at AFL level. Running capacity really his only ‘elite’ trait seen this year imo but admittedly was a double wrist injury in pre season. There’s at least 20 players I’d be picking before Dalton

3 more yrs at the bottom of the ladder and Harley and some other players will be gone as FA's.
We need to maximize our wins before we start thinking about premierships. That's why we need ready to play draftees.
Three more years and we're in the eight or knocking on the door. If Harley leaves, it won't be due to our performance.

Now that we know eagles are trying to trade up, who do you think there most likely to select? I predict it will be Duursma, CDT, and Cumming.

Reasons
  • Duursma is clearly the number one in the draft, they would be silly not to take him.
  • CDT has been linked to WCE all season, eagles also desperately need a ruck.
  • Cumming is the best mid available at that pick, perfect all rounder mid to pair with Harley and hewett.

Duursma
Sharp
Cumming or Schubert

Would be the best outcome in my view.

So why would we take CDT, he's not very good in the actual ruck

because he’s apparently a ruck, and we’re desperate. I don’t like the idea of having a “fourth midfielder” ruckman, but he’s still probably better than rolling out Baz
...yet to be seen...I've watched a few of his games this year and I didn't think he'd done anything to justify the hype.
He's a very average ruck, would even say below average and he's not that great in the air either. He runs a lot and is good below his knees for a tall. I'm not sure any of that that justifies taking him at pick 2 and we'll pick him and still be desperate for a competitive ruck so it doesn't solve any of our ruck issues anyway

I rate Dalton. Full stop.

His wrist injury held him back this year. So what.

Drafting is all about looking forward and not in the rear vision mirror. I have a rating from 15 onwards. Many may differ but that is what it is like when speculating.

Should we bundle the Dalton and Curtin picks up for player x? Not for many that I have on my board. But I have had enough feedback to know my views are not always mainstream

I agree with that, I was just answering with the what is likely the clubs logic. Elite athletic traits + point of difference compared to other rucks. I think he’s a nothing burger personally and would much rather take BVR or Walsh over the next 2 years

Pray tell me, if we are desperate for a ruck, why would we want CDT? He was not the best ruck in the championship nor was he the best ruck in CTL

When I project what CDT could be, I see Peter Wright. No way he is worth pick 2.

I am not seeing his flaws exaggerated, most don’t see his elite attributes standing out. CDT has a lot of unique traits. The point being he is not dominant as a ruck and he is not the best KPF in the draft. No exaggeration there.

He is a good top 10 prospect. Hardly warrants being called pick 2 calibre.

Essendon would do well pairing him with Caddy. Dees would do well pairing him with Van Rooyen. We have strength and depth in the role hence he’s not a need.
Oh please, there is an absolute pile-on by people who are only willing to meaningfully discuss this kid’s perceived flaws. There are five critics for every fan of his. You were just questioning his football IQ and there is a theme of “can’t ruck, can’t mark” that is being repeated ad nauseum. I’m not being critical of you personally, it’s just the relentless discourse.

I think this is all a misunderstanding of his value as a prospect. Him being rated as highly as he is represents the league valuing ground ball ability and having an extra midfielder over ruck ability. There is merit to this - most rucks are largely ineffectual and the best often differentiate themselves because of their ability around the ground. Richmond experimented with abandoning the position altogether and I’m surprised this hasn’t evolved faster. We’re now seeing traditional rucks selected later and later in the draft for this very reason.

Make no mistake, he is one of the best ruck prospects that has ever come through in this respect. He moves like a midfielder, runs off his opponent and has genuinely good skills. He can kick goals either as a marking forward, a receiver in transition or hunting ground balls in the forward 50. He is potentially much more effectual than a ruck who can win hitouts, take a contested mark or two around the ground but otherwise offer little.

Again, I don’t want to draft him because I think it’s a conceptual gamble that we can’t afford to take, Archer Reid should be explored in that position first and there are other good ruck prospects coming up soon if Reid doesn’t pan out. But this simplistic “he’s not a good ruckman and isn’t good enough of a mark to be a key forward” doesn’t actually capture his value as a prospect.
