2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

He maybe mobile, so was Mat Allison, Aleer has no idea about positioning and where he should be on the ground, lm not convinced he is the answer

I would hope there is another reason we re-signed him and not because he is best mates

Paddy was in hospital for a long time this year and apparently things were pretty bad at one point. I think the club has treated this like an ACL and said 'you worry about getting better we've got you'.

Sure angling for TDK may have played a small role but I doubt he even came up in initial discussions.

Paddy was only re-signed because he was out injured all year. It was a sympathy re-signing.
I reckon that has gone a long way to showing Jsos and tdk how much the club looks after the players.
He’ll be gone next year for sure.

Hey, was on 17 pages last time I checked in, well done again, keep it going. So sick and tired of the same farking sides in the farking finals.
It actually gives hope to other clubs like North.

You've got to be in it to win it. And you're in it 👍
Look no friend of North, didn't like the concessions, but you are in the same boat as us and the Bulldogs, always an afterthought while the fake northern clubs get everything, and now the richest club in the land, the 2018 premier, gets a leg up.
Don't like you much, but I do emphasise and understand. Hope you get up there and are hated by the rich and entitled pr!cks.

What would you do, trade for maximum value now, or hold for 12 months while not in the window and get a first round compensation pick in 2026?

The melts from the entire AFL world if he nominated us 🤣

Marshall, Steele, Clark and Butler's salaries off the books for Butters. Give up next 2 years firsts and whatever we get for those 4.

You just want to see it happen for the lols.

Not only that but also released a media statement.
Getting ahead of the media narrative that he is being pushed.
Exactly this.

If we didn’t want him out, it would have been done in private and kept that way. The fact we publicly came out and made a statement on it, genuinely not sure how people could come to a different conclusion.
It would have found its way into the media & with a very different slant.

Club on front foot. Great to see.

Imagine if we had a crack at Butters and he nominated us (against conventional wisdom). This place would erupt.

Not sure how we’d get it done, and how he would fit him into the salary cap, but we seem to be getting things done like no other club.

I’m sure we are in there having a crack.

Think it's super unlikely

Dogs favourites for Butters but probably don't have enough capital and would need to trade someone out

Freijah or Sanders to us for our F1 and Marshall pick? :tearsofjoy:

In all seriousness, if that happened we would have to be a genuine chance for not only finals but top 4.

Our midfield would be as good as any club if you include Flanders, NWM, Phillipou, Macrae and our other developing lads.

And a leaping TDK in the ruck with young gun Alex Dodson developing.

Dare to dream. It’s free.

Haven’t seen too much angst over the last few trade periods. Most thought we were rebuilding via the draft. A lot were confused when we went back to loading up this year
I remember quite a bit. Why weren’t we doing more to acquire new players? We are left behind etc etc. Not just in here. In a few of the social media sites as well. Usually jealousy that other clubs were making trades and we weren’t.

The fact was we had no one of interest for trades to other clubs. So unless we continued to trade away our own picks we had no trade capital. Finally we are building players that other clubs want. Windy, NAS, Roma, Wilkie. Fortunately we kept them.

The conflation on this is pretty insane to me.

What we know is that Jack and the club have agreed to see what looks best for him and us next year.

The rest is pure speculation. The media getting it means it’s spread to the widest possible audience and gives us and Jack the best opportunity for him to move if he wishes.

You guys wanna make out like we’re literally putting a boot up his ass. Maybe Jack asked for the statement so he had the best reach, maybe he and his management did it.

To me absolutely none of it looks disrespectful or desperate to piss him off.

Frankly of all the guys floated from us Jack would be the most likely to stay IMO (noting I think hell go anyway)

Effectively free agency, we lost big Carl to Melbourne.

North loaded up Barry Davis, John Rantall, Doug Wade, Brent Crosswell from memory. They also got aggressive with interstate recruiting.

Ron Barassi, slug Jordan and i think Ron Joseph was the brown paper bag man. They were flat broke but had people in high places looking after them.
Stan Alves as well.
