Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Personally, I don’t see the need to bring in Buttersm (at the cost in trades and wages). Great player, no doubt, but we’ve already drafted in Jagga to develop into our Butters. What we really need are players with burst and genuine kicking ability to complement our extractors.

But isn’t that what Butters brings, burst and kicking ability?

Interesting take, Butters is exactly what we need now, speed, ball winning ability, aggression, ball use, the whole package of what he would bring no one on our list has. I could be wrong, but Jagga I suspect does not have the break away, line breaking speed Butters has and he alone would make us a top 8 side overnight IMO.

Seen this movie before
Starts as a bit of fun amongst supporters and before you know it …

Trust that Wright, Davies and Austin see things through more rational eyes than supporters.
Frank and Fogarty are honest enough types but really not the answer as Geelong and Port have previously discovered …
Frank is a similar level to Fog in tackles and pressure. But running patterns, footy IQ, marking and goal sense is where the similarity ends...and potential improvement, due to age differences.

Jagga hasn't played a game yet. You don't pass up on a player like Butters because you think Jagga may end up as good as him one day no matter how promising he looks.

Exactly!
Butters would be an upgrade on tonight’s B&F winner and would a great fit around our Captain if he can reproduce his best form…..

Jagga , in fact all our midfielders would benefit enormously playing along side a high quality footballer like Butters whom is gifted with good speed, ball winning ability, aggression, ball use, the complete footballer.
Also Cripps could then rest forward for longer too, amortizing our loss of Charlie Curnow.
One can dream, snaring Butters would heal much of our pain.

And would demand the biggest contract in history alongside wiping out all our draft currency at a time when we need it the most.
Great player, but so was Judd … Pass

Not if Charlie were to move on….
We could cover both payment & draft picks required for f/s & nga if Charlie moves on.

My take on the Butters stuff is that his manager is under instruction to start stirring the pot.

News article like that wasn't coming out of Port's list management team

Love Butters.

Don’t love what he’d cost in terms of picks and dollars.

If it’s two picks in the 6-12 range and $1.6M for Zac, I’d rather aim to get two players in with that, probably targeting a mid/fwd and a small/flank type, preferably under 22.

I feel like we need to use this opportunity to spread our resources across the park a bit more than we previously have.

From Port's perspective.

If he is gone, and you are rebuilding.

Cash in now or get another year and maybe lose value?

The year has value, educating and protecting kids, chance he changes his mind etc.

But by the sound of it, he misses home badly

Butters is 25/26 yo and has had a very physically demanding career.
There wouldn’t be much change out of $2m per season either over a lengthy contract.

The same currency from Curnow could help unlock the likes of Robey and Walker for the next 15 years on a fraction of the salary along with a very accomplished player in Hayward.

Cripps and Walsh leading Smith, Robey and Walker through the midfield is the kind of firepower I’ve got my eyes on …

Charles to Swans, Swans 1st pick this year, future 1st and Hayward to blues.

TDK compo and Swans 1st to West Coast in exchange for pick 2.

Pick 2 and change to port for Butters… it could happen.

Means we still have x2 firsts for Cody next year…
What does that leave us for Harry Dean? JSOS compo enough?

How does Butters get to be 25/26 when he turned 25 last month. Put Butters, Jagga, Walsh, Cooper Lord as defensive mid/extractor. Walker as half forward/mid along with a few years of Cripps, Hewett and Cerra whilst Walker and Jagga mature and you would have an absolute monster well balanced midfield for a very long time.

I like the trade options you put forward. I'd even be prepared to take Florent as a salary dump from them to secure the deal.

The TDK compo and Swans 1st to West Coast in exchange for pick 2 would be a great result. Maybe even throw in an exchange of future picks and we also get Chesser.

Pick 2 would go a long way in securing Humphrey, but if he doesn't nominate us, I'd be taking Sullivan Robey in a heartbeat.

If we ended up with Chesser, Bhuku, Florent, Reidy, Robey, Dean and Ison at the end of the trade/draft period, I'd be a very happy Harvester. And as an added bonus, get big Moose Maley as a DFA.
