If he’s loved by the playing group and you’d keep him if the Starcevich deal doesn’t pan out, maybe the Eagles are getting cold feet about bringing the Brisbane lad across.

He could only be one concussion away from compulsory retirement. Its been reported that it’s a 5 year deal with a fair bit of coin. I don’t know how you manage or prevent concussion, given that some players are susceptible to them. Ask Jeremy McGovern.

I’m only guessing, but taking a punt on Starcevich looks like a risky proposition. It’s not as if Brisbane has a sub standard medical team.

Fortunately the Optus Oval surface is the softest in the league, and the odds of Starcevich bumping his head again in the next few years is incredibly slim

Reckon Eagles will give Brisbane what they want. Pick 2 is too valuable for them to hold firm on.

If Eagles didn't care about band 1 they would have already matched the Allan bid to begin with, reckon this is what Brisbane is banking on.

End of the day Brisbane list is good enough that having Allan or not having him wouldn't bother them. Doesn't look great but I guess this way it's a chance for them to say, well we tried sorry Oscar.

I know, but it is what it is. Although I don’t think it would be too hard to get Swans or GCS on the hook considering what they are prepared to pay and trade for Curnow

Without question, based on what they’ve actually delivered on field, Oscar Allen is the most overrated footballer in the comp. It doesn’t mean he’s not a decent fit for Lions, as they only need him to play a few decent games and hopefully win them a final or two.

But seriously … he’s had 1 x good season in his entire career.

He’s played 105 games for 198 x goals and goal assists at 1.89 per game.

Mihocek is 332 goals and goal assists at 2.09 per game.


Mabior Chol is 203 at 1.88 … and he spend decent chunks in the ruck.

I know he’s played a few game in defence…. but it beggars belief he’s getting eagles pick-2. It’s worse than McKay and Frawley compo.

We have lots of choices, but Brisbane’s choice will run out of time first and they know we’ll match a band 2 offer.

With Gallop and Morris showing such great signs there’s no doubt Lion’s would have buyers remorse on Allen.

If they get Allen then one of their actual very good players will fall out in coming years - could be Bailey, Ashcroft x 2, Fletcher… something will have to give.

The deal will get done and Eagles will get pick-2 compo as Lions won’t reneg on their word … but by geez they’d be regretting it.

To be fair to the Lions, the Eagles contract offer to Starcevitch is reportedly $900k x 5. For a 26 year old. Almost the same contract the Lions are offering Allen to net then pick 2. Yet the Eagles only want to part with a second rounder. Doesn’t make sense. Just give them 16, thank the AFL for pick 2 and move on.

Yes. He wants to stay and if we match a borderline band 1 offer over 5 years he would be absolutely stoked.

What we had offered is well below that.

Him and his missus’s family all in WA, just built a massive house, childhood eagles fan etc. delighted.

So hang on … Tier 2 is $800k over 5-years, and you’re saying Eagles would match that happily and Oscar would love to stay? Makes zero sense.

Otherwise, why wouldn’t the Eagles have offered that to him already and why didn’t Allen accept it? He’s played one good season his career, so he thinks $4m over 5-years is an unreasonable offer?

Or did the Eagles not offer Allen anything resembling an acceptable contract knowing a competitor would make an offer to unlock pick-2?

If Allen desperately wanted to stay then it’s pretty clear your club was happy to shaft their captain and his family to get pick-2.

Being campaigners? They’re offering a contract to gift Eagles pick-2. So they’re expecting a decent offer for Starcevich … in line with a contract of $900k for 5 x seasons. Eagles offering low-20’s that turns into the 30’s?

Lions are gifting Eagles pick-2 - on the open trade market Oscar Allen wouldn’t get a top-10 pick. It’s liquid gold.

Brisbane should just walk away from allen and get the compo pick back for starcevic it's going to be more then what wce are currently offering for a trade and they can save on cap space as they'll have some youngsters that will need contract upgrades.
