Don’t be silly
I've covered my thoughts on his range in this draft pool. He is not ahead of Uwland, Duursma, Robey, Sharp, Patterson, Annable, Cumming, or Duff-Tytler really.

He's not shown he is a bonafide key defender, even the write-ups describe him as a 2nd KPD projection. It's all trade/draft tactics from other clubs to scare us out of this range.

Notice how the ranking has suddenly surged from in front of ours and Sydney's picks to in front of Gold Coast's? 💡

Just because you have your own opinion doesn’t mean that it’s “trash journalism”.

Plz Austin just find a way 🙏

Jagga, Walsh, Robey, Walker, Cerra
Haven't really been taking much notice of the draft crop this year....I tend to get more interested after we know what picks we'll be taking to the draft before I get too excited.

BUT, I just went and looked at Robey's highlights package, and all I can say is FMD!!! Wouldn't be surprised if he went #1 or #2 this year....he's just got IT....and lots of IT....whatever IT is, he's got it...

If we can somehow miraculously trade up and jag WCE's #2 pick, we just gotta get this kid onto our list.

I didn’t know where I should post this, but it’s some great footage of the 2026 draft form Baseline Footy
It’s not all about Cody, there is some really cool ground level footage of him doing some great things, but you can also see some areas which he could improve.
2026 draft has some serious talent that’s for sure.

Holding pattern for Starcevich, Pies opt against father-son nom, Steele wants to stay - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1436976

A hamstring injury meant Carlton father-son Dylan Patterson did not test, while Carlton father-son Harry Dean was recovering from a shoulder injury so didn't partake in the testing. Sam Allen and Harley Barker (ACLs), Liam Heatherton (back) and Archie Ludowyke (knee) were others unable to test as they worked through their long-term injuries, while Jack Ison, Hugo Mikunda, Wes Walley, Toby Murray, Will Darcy, Jesse Mellor and Riley Onley were among the others sidelined. – Callum Twomey

Who is Dylan Patterson, who is his Daddy and what does he do?

(Yes I know he's tied to the Suns)

Quite a fall for McGuane. Talked of as a possible first rounder last year.
Bottom age hype for the sake of clicks, nothing else.

Said many times early that he would be nowhere near a first round pick, lacks any real athleticism and his ball use is crab like unfortunately.

Very much like Ben Campo but not as contested in terms of ball winning ability.

Both Dean and Ison didn’t test, Dean due to shoulder injury and Ison due to illness IIRC
Dean I'd say fair enough, Ison I'd say was definitely trying to avoid any more bolting. He's a fantastic athlete so every chance he could have surprised a few and pumped his stocks up even more.

On the track possibly. On the field there's nothing athletic to his game.
It is strange as he was always seen to be a smart footballer, he should be able to maximise his athletic talent. I know you have been talking down his prospects( mainly to Pies supporters pumping him up as a first rounder being part of the reason to give it up for Huston) for over a year so it would seem the Pies recruiters agree with you.

I can see a team like WCE picking him up purely because they've already got some of the athletic beasts they need like Reid and Hewett in their midfield, but for the most part teams are shifting away from non damaging accumulators with good footy brains. Someone like Ben Campo plays very similar to McGuane on the outside (gets a stack of the pill but uses it very safely due to limitations on his disposal) but Ben is a genuine top line contested ball winner and fantastic defensively which gives him a much clearer path forward in the AFL.

Ultimately wish the best for the kid but he just doesn't have any real standout qualities in terms of athletic ability or vision.

Dean at 8.
That is so much amateur hour. They have WC gift pick in front of our end of first. Nah. Let alone some misguided picks. So much of the media stuff is more “out there” than the Big Footy nuffie projections on here.
