I’m wondering whether Sydney would want a FA KPF rather than chasing Curnow with a low chance of success. They must have cap space if they want Charlie. Dean Cox to meet with Oscar on Wednesday. Enough time to get due diligence and paperwork lodged by Friday.

We then still get pick 2.

We put an offer into Starcevich that Lions would have great difficulty matching but could still do it. Explain to Starcevich if he stays put then fine, but he can still join us by nominating the PSD since his club got greedy.

If we miss out on Starcevich, is there a player like Lloyd that we slightly overpay for to thank them (Lloyd as a lock down defender who is older but no concussion concerns). Use pick 38!

So Lions miss out on KPF they have been wanting for 12 months but save $$
They miss out on pick 23
They have a higher than planned and longer than planned contract in an area they are deep
Annables bid comes at 1
Lions dirty the waters for future FA wanting to commit to Brisbane

I am sure it will get sorted. I expect Starcevich and Dev to be Eagles while Oscar become a Lion. These things normally do but geez it would be great viewing if it’s gloves off.

Meanwhile, Massey flies to QLD to interview Annables at his home. Then Duane drives down to Carrara for a couple of home visits with Uwland and Patterson while in state.
That would be a great outcome for us. Allen to Sydney as a FA, pick 2 to us. Starcevich to us as a FA - no picks outplayed by us.

Now this is the type of guy we should be having a crack at, perfect age for us, versatile, tough, ready for AFL football with good upside. From QLD so I don’t think he’d care where he moves, would just want game time.

And also another player who had a great game against us in 2024…22 disposals and a goal

Matt Rosa Essendon on Trade radio confirming they have reached out to both West Coast and Richmond about the possibility to trade up. Talks haven’t progressed far yet.
1 and 37 for 5,6 they get Durrsma, we get 2,5,6 draft Sobey, Sharp, Cummings/Farrow/Lindsey etc

12 hours a day on social media algorithm
So we get Oscar Allen back get Starcevich as a FA and we also keep the pick 19 . Thats not too bad a scenario for us

It's pretty obvious what Brisbane are trying to do.

Starc leaves as a trade.

Don't offer a free agency bid and Lions trade for Oscar.

Straight swap will be their aim.

If they go there well......

Gloves better come off Eagles.

Clearly not. If they FA Allen and then trade Starc they lose Starc, but gain Allen and a pick/picks. If it's a straight swap they just lose Stac and gain Allen. Why would they want to do that?

Cal sort of saying he wasn’t sure the Eagles would do 1 + 23 for 4 + 5.

Said the move up would be for Duursma who has put a gap between him and the rest. Why would they be after Richmond’s pick 3 then? Duursma too 2 at worst? If they get it dies Will then change his tune to a flight risk.

Picks 2,5,6,7

1- Duursma (ESS)
2- CDT (WC)
3- Robey (Rich)
4- X Taylor (Rich)
5- Sharp (WC)
6- Grlj/Farrow/Lindsay (WC)
7- Cumming/Schubert (WC)

Cap space issues.

It has to be pinching now.

They just seem to being total campaigners over a couple of hundred draft points. That doesn't make sense.

And we can hurt them by bidding if we feel they are being dicks about that.

Nah i think that’s to kind if they want Duursma. He’s clearly the top rated prospect, has been all year. He’s seperated himself from the rest of the pool in my mind.

5 & 6 end up probably in the 8-10 range on draft night.

I’d be asking what else. Bombers fans won’t like that idea but we don’t have to split, Duursma seems okay with moving West.

Really liked this kid in his draft year, we should be sniffing around.

I feel their offer wont get band1 for allen so they are stalling for time knowing we will match .

If they don't do it at the last second we will take starcivich as a FA their only trade chip .

This. Surely Brisbane are just posturing to try and squeeze Clarke. I would have thought the contract terms, including pay and tenure, have already been agreed in principle with Allen and his management.

I would imagine they can’t just say “we’re trying to screw West Coast to get a first rounder out of them so sorry Oscar but if they don’t pony up we’re reducing your pay by $150,000 a year down to Band 2”.
Ok. 100% discussion in good faith here.
There’s no threat from Brisbane to reduce Allen’s offer. Our offer has been the same from day one to Allen.

Nor would Brisbane match your offer to Starcevich if you lodged it. Our list manager has made it very clear that we will not pay that type of money for Starcevich. We have a strict wage structure in place, where pretty much every player on our list has take “unders” for us to remain competitive.

Brisbane’s concern is if we lodge the Allen paperwork first, West Coast can the turn around, wait for the compensation to be granted, then say, “we are only going to offer pick 37 for Starcevich, it’s take it or we walk him to the PSD”.

So our actions are trying to guard against the very scenario quite a few here have said is exactly what they wish your club would do.

The one concern I have, is that our offer to Allen is similar to contracts that have triggered Band 2 compensation this trade period, so we are reliant on the AFL massaging your compensation up to Band 1.

You can jump over to the Lions list management thread and read what I’ve posted there, and you’ll see I don’t take a “side” in these types of discussions. I look at every club and trade through, what I believe is, a pragmatic view.

I don’t think that’s the issue at all. The Lions are asking for pick 16 that’s the issue.

So Saints yesterday.

"We haven't had any discussions with West Coast RE Ryan."

So they approached a contracted player.

Got him over for a medical.

Both player and Saints stated they want to do a trade.

But haven't bothered talking to the club that has him under contract until 2026?

Sounds like something Brisbane would do.

A tad rude IMO.

Your club are kents briztoon and 37 is more than adequate for a player you would lose for nothing had he elected a different club and commensurate with a player whose contract you would not match and a player who carries considerably more risk for seeing out said contract.

I can vouch for BT being consistent on all threads, he’s operating in good faith.

For once

5- Sharp (WC)
6- Grlj/Farrow/Lindsay (WC)

If we have 2 5 6 7

2 Sharp

Now the tigers have to consider CDT, which leaves one of Robey or Taylor

5 cumming
6 Shubert
7 Robey farrow Taylor

So 2 if the best mids and the best key.
And with our fourth selection we take a risk with the local boy, the draft bolter or another defender.

Also in good faith, how does dragging it out change this equation? Free agency ends before the trade period. I don't really follow how Brisbane are guarding against anything here in a realistic sense.
