If we match they then say we trade starcivich for allen and we have no option to get starcivich as a free agent as the window has closed

The AFL could give us an extension, trades get lodged after the deadline every year.

West Coast made their offer first. We the put in a counter offer.

Which is fine but the Eagles would be mad to give up a first round pick for Starc.

That’s what’s holding the deal up. Not the other stuff you wrote over a few paragraphs.

Lions can only stall the Allen FA submission for so long. They really are two separate issues and we will see that towards the end of the week, the Eagles really don’t need to do anything at this point, they will trade for Starc when happy with the deal.

complete bias, I think it’s Brisbane trying to be greasy and take advantage of Clarke the absolute flop and get 16 thinking he’ll cave. Given Clarke’s track record, and how obnoxious Dom sounded with Twomey yesterday, it’s definitely posturing coming from one side. Offering a 2nd rounder is reasonable considering the medical concerns, there’s not really much reason to ask for 16 except to be slimy imo.

If Allen’s compo is band 2 then what’s stopping us from saying “we are only going to offer a pick in the 50s for Starcevich, it’s take it or we walk him to the PSD”?
We get Starcevich for free and still have pick 1, Haw R1, Allen compo and the PP before the second round. We don’t get pick 2 but can easily move inside top 10 using some of these picks. This doesn’t sound too bad but obviously getting pick 2 for Allen is better.

Brisbane’s concern is if we lodge the Allen paperwork first, West Coast can the turn around, wait for the compensation to be granted, then say, “we are only going to offer pick 37 for Starcevich, it’s take it or we walk him to the PSD”.

Situation can be reversed. We are worried that if we cough up the pick you want you will lodge band 2 compensation after receiving it. Although as other's have said these things by the letter of the law should not be intrinsically linked.

The other club is desperately trying to improve its list and draft hand.

Stupid thing is Brisbane can hold out and be dcks all they like. If they really piss off the Eagles they bid early and the Lions lose due to being smart arses.

And give the Eagles reason to bid early this year and next.

Trade negotiations are fine. But if Brisbane are using the FA compensation for Allen as a bargaining chip for a separate trade, that's really scummy.

If you're ok with your club being scummy, I guess that's up to you.

It's not compulsory to trade it, and we have the pick immediately after it. Also we need to do what it takes to improve our position more than Brisbane do. You get that right?

We aren’t forcing a trade.

West Coast “need” to trade for Starcevich so as not to dilute the Oscar Allen compensation.

Brisbane are using this situation to our advantage to increase our points pool this draft (and in next year’s draft).

West Coast made their first offer, and we made a counter offer.

Neither club is being a d!ck, both clubs are trying to get the best deal for their club.

One theory on our board is that West Coast’s list manager asked us to start at pick 16, so that when we settle on the compo pick, West Coast fans feel like they got a “win” over the Lions.

With Reidy now finding his way to Carlton, I’m once again thumping the table for Pittonet to make his way to WCE as a cheap stop gap. Can guarantee you best 22 footy the rest of the way, bridges the gap until Reid or whoever else is ready.

Would be getting in his ear given he’s been trapped behind TDK and as soon as the air clears up again they go and trade for a younger ruck.
