2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th

Yep. This was the line they got Sam Edmund to peddle this morning.

It's going to be real interesting how this plays out.
I've thought through this trade period that we may need to shed one player, and that is why Steele's name popped up.

So it's probably not a complete untruth, but there's enough other areas (Jones/Byrnes etc) to also not make it 100% necessary to trade Ro, given forward loading etc.

On the other side, you can make an argument that Geelong win the flag with ro this year and are 1 really red hot chance again. He suits them (ruck rover) vs a tap ruckman like Reeves from Hawthorn and they came knocking.

Pay up.

We may need a pick/points coming back for a bid on Fincher.
Yes, we have definitively stated that we will use pick 7.
Doesn't mean we wont get anything back in return though.
A wait & see.

But it's also our leverage over the other suitors &/or having him stay.

Geelong could learn a thing.

Big difference and key is the fact that Lonie was small and had no pace , Rogers is quick.

Whether he can play midfield at AFL level is yet to be seen but has all the ability in the world .

Had a look at his VFL stats he is not kicking a lot of goals or getting too much of the ball. Pass...

Well, see what deal is done. Ro has wanted to go home for 2 years, he is leaving and if its not this year, it'll be next year for less than what we get this year.
What do you mean home? He has never had a connection with Geelong and is from Portland.
And why next year? He has 2 years left on his contract. And even if he did why would he get less?
25 in this draft is shit and a complete cave if that happens.

Those arguing we should have put certain players onto the LTI to get a midseason pick. The player has to agree to being shut down at the time.
In Cordy's case he was fighting for his career and in Kings case he would have been desperately hopeful to get back onto the park.

It is what it is, and I highly doubt we'll be looking back with regret in 3 years time.

What rubbish, everyone knew Cordy would be delisted as soon as his contract expired.

I love the fact the Saints are shitting those three dog turds on the late trade. Everything is negative
  • the wrong players
  • they wont move the needle
  • they have overpaid
  • Lyon runs everything
  • all their young players will leave
  • overpaid for Flanders
  • should take unders for Marshall
Then they got the coach of Balwyn some failed AFL coach to tut out and say this will never be a top four team, and they all went yes yes, true blah blah blah.

They are rattled and it shows.
Didn't listen to a heap but that's not the sense of got from The Late Trade. Brad Johnson in particular was absolutely glowing in a segment I listened to, loved our strategy and really had nothing but praise which many on here won't believe. Barret is and always has been a flog, pretends he has inside info and knows what's happening at the saints when in reality no one would be giving him anything.

Jenkins was neither here nor there from what I listened to, was just being more analytical. Both pushed back on Damo's ridiculous narrative he's trying to push that anything less than a prelim next year is a failure

So because we all knew that he'd be delisted by St Kilda, Cordy should forgo opportunities to put his case forward to other clubs?

Irrespective of whether you rate him or not, you can't force someone to sit when they're not injured and Cordy was well within his rights to play later in the season.

Two years left it’s this year or nothing would be my bet.

I don’t trust Geelong they’ll find an excuse to drag it out and hope for a pity trade. I reject that outright, it’s not Darwin, people commute everyday.

I'm personally only pointing out that it was possible, and its also possible that come round 20, if Cordy was available- we could've swapped him out for another player with a LTI - with a few rounds to go, that would've been easy enough.

The AFL has so many loopholes to exploit, it was definitely possible- which is my one and only argument.

I understand your point totally, it does require some foresight though, as there's no guarantee that someone will have been injured. Similarly, we're having a hard time delisting players as it is, that would have only amplified if we'd signed a player midseason.

Well, home is a stretch but Portland/Bellarine region obviously

Becuase his value will tank in 2026 when he isnt the sole ruck, and the cats will either fill the void or move on.

This is the most value he will have until the end of his career. I would love to keep him as I think the 2 ruck system will work but i cant see it happening.

You can't add anyone to the LTI list from Round 18 onwards - the final six rounds.

That's written in those AFL rules if you want to go through them.

So it wouldn't have really been easy and not really possible - if Cordy was going on to the LTI, he would have to stay there.

I know you don't mean it, but this whole chat is frustrating haha.

I think he has family, maybe a sister, in Geelong. But yeah, the argument that its 3 hours instead of 4 and a half hours away is kinda funny.

The best argument I heard about distance was Butters, who would decide an entire career based on a 29 minute drive (difference) to his home town.

Anyway, I digress, I agree, dig in our heels, I'm not even happy about just an F1 for him. Hold him to a contract if they don't offer a great deal - time to be a serious club as Ross would say.

Damn, well there you go, my theory is out the window & I can'tbe bothered fact checking 🤣

Trying to put a player on the long term injury list.

Legit haha.

Fmd, have a visit of any other teams trade boards and all they are talking about is us.

We are the trade period, so hot right now🤣

Almost everybody thinks this trade period is going to blow up in our face.

Amazing how quickly JSOS and Flanders went from being guns to spuds once they nominated us.

Love this aggressive approach. No guarantees of success, but just happy to see us making moves.

We clearly don't care about this years draft.

Flanders for pick 7 feels like we won that one. Anything back on top of that is a bonus. Great get.
I think we won by getting Flanders. Pick 7 seems like a good result for both clubs. We understand Flanders is contracted (Geelong????) and GC didn't ask for the world. It is also sets up a basis for cordial trading with GC in this trade period and maybe going forward.
I am pretty comfortable with this trade TBH.

They genuinely have no idea either. I've seen so many posts about us spending 30% of our cap on 4 players and qouting all these inflated figures. What a time to be alive!

Agree. You don't want to be digging your heels in on every trade otherwise u end up being Essendon.

We want him, if we pay slightly overs it doesn't matter. Get the deal done, shows we mean business. Next.
