2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

Calculating Cal Two-bats is of the opinion that the Marshall deal will go through. So that means we need another serious half-decent ruck option
Its exactly why I really hope SDK can come to us, the ruck security he'd provide if both Tom and Dodson go down would be invaluable. I love Keels but he's a bit part ruck at best.

Makes sense for Freo. Pick 12 is gonna end up a fair way back in a fairly even draft. Might as well turn that into two decent picks I guess.

Downgraded their 1st round pick to the last pick of the 1st round but bumped up 2 later picks... Dunno if that's worth it in an ordinary draft. Surely you take the punt on there maybe being someone in the first round you rate and then trade out all your later picks for players or future picks..?

They moved from 33 to 23 though, that's a decent jump that high in the draft.

And it looks like they are going to use 23 on Judd McVee, which I think is good value.

I presume that was the reasoning behind it. Their pick in the 30's didn't seem like enough and 12 was probably too high.

23 for Judd McVee is probably a decent outcome. Will blow out to pick 30 or so, and he looked pretty good last year.

Uncontracted McVee worth 23 but pick 18 is in the same conversation as a contracted Marshall.

Geelong can gagf

Well of course, there is the other “Brett Voss” scenario…

On Boyd - I think there were plenty that liked his physicality and attack around the ball. It really wasn’t until after Round 1 that people turned on him. I know I did from training attendance, albeit I didn’t particularly see much match practice post-Xmas.

And Hall was such a low key acquisition with a non-descript end to ‘24 that he wouldn’t have been in many people’s 23, even up until Round 1.
Hall was starting to get noticed post Christmas in training, and I even posted in an early report he reminded me of Daniel Kerr zipping about, and others were noticing too before me, but you’re right for general supporters he was pretty much unknown until the season went on. Incredible story

I agree, I thought they were a chance to give up 13 for considering the draft.

They have done very well.
Yep, nice piece of work for Freo.

Their first for McVee would have been a good deal. but to be able to hang on to a late first rounder AND help West Coast shoot themselves in the foot by wasting trade capital on a bloke that is one head knock away from retirement is next level.

I feel like they have the best placed list to compete with Brisbane, but it seems maybe the coach is the weak link?

Kane Cornes said we should be getting a second lol
Honestly don’t think he’s too far wrong. Ro will be 30 next year and his body and form has been below his best the last 12 months. If we were offering a first for ruckman with a similar profile I’d be flat. The fact we’re potentially getting a first is great for us.

It's also been under the radar, this is at least 4 years in the planning (NWM may have brought it forward a year).

There's a shock factor to this in that it hasn't been done before and no "reporter" saw it coming.

The lack of financial acumen from the football media at this time of year is astounding, but they can get away with almost anything because of the hidden nature of football contracts. Most 'reporting' is parroting sources, no investigative journalism is occurring.

It may or may not turn out, but it's a bold strategy and needs to be admired (once understood).
It’s utterly amazing to me that - even with the financials becoming huge news this year - these muppets still haven’t gone and educated themselves on how it works. It’s extraordinary when you get paid in this space.
