Round 1: 1, 2, 13

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)

We'll be getting pick 2 today so that'll start opening up trade options. 2 will be on the table, 1 would require an offer of godlike proportions.
I think it’s more likely than not the we will trade either pick 1 or 2.
I personally think some of these SA kids are underrated by the biased Vic Media, they kicked arse in the u/18’s and that doesn’t happen by fluke.
As is the same most years the top 5 or 6 being discussed are all Vics.

He has a point now we will have to match a much earlier bid than before the combine

Of course Tylah Williams should have gone to the combine when invited.

He has no obligation to tank his own value for us, just as we have no obligations to match a bid.

Players work their asses off to get taken as high as possible. It’s recognition for their hard work and afformation for the year they’ve had.

I don’t expect the old, fat blokes who barely leave the couch to understand this though.

Holy moly I go out to the movies for one night (avatar 2 re-release, it was awesome) and come back to 35-40 more pages? I would've thought all those sad sacks banging on about how we were definitely 100% guaranteed going to get reamed and Clarke was going to give away all our premierships for magic beans would be strangely quiet.

I guess they'll just pivot to doom posting about how badly we're going to screw up the draft now.

I apologise if I sound harsh. I know it sucks to lose so bad for so long. But we've so clearly turned a corner and in my mind there's no disputing we're on the right path to success. It's safe to open your hearts and learn to love the blue and gold again!

Big love brothers ❤️

and does pick 1 have a certain willem duursma attached to it ?

He is the standout at one but I wouldn't rule out him not being one due to a bid or two. Would be shocked if he wasn't an Eagle.

More top ten picks is the goal. We'll still look at doing a deal with GC as well. That ship has not sailed.

And agree on the SA kids.

Worth a 2nd crack at it I reckon.

Would rather we use at least some of the additional rookie spots on young players that have been previously overlooked.

Several options out there - starting with A.Anderson who just won the Jack Oatey medal in the SANFL.

Less likely to impacted by injury than older players, or those delisted with injury history, and should they make a jump in output on their introduction into a top-level environment, we have a best 22 player that will still be around when the club is competing at the right end of the ladder.

I was critical of Clarke last year for promising something we did not have. Hawks deliberately played hard ball and we were left with few options but to over pay to Tigers. I suspect Tigers deliberately went slow with Suns on the Rioli deal (and yes they fleeced them).

Interesting how many on the Dockers board are spewing. They perceive that they could of got more for 12 on draft night and that they would have got a better return from the Dees in offering up a good return pick. Their petty mindedness is also upset they have helped facilitate our trade. Reality, armed with 12 and without Melbourne having the right pick to return, they would likely have been bending over, touching their toes and playing the Matty 2024 role of chief receiver.

Not sure why the Freo guys are unhappy. They get to split 12 into a pick that gets them McVee and a pick that likely gets them Rodriguez. If they had of been offered that middle of the year, they would have been biting off the hand that offered it.

Congratulations Matty - you have learnt from your mistake. We now have completed the most important business and we can now play the controlling hand in the next 2 deals.

Ryan - scene set that he is a wanted player and Saints have to offer something really good as he is contracted and he is happy at the club. What that looks like - we have an awesome current draft hand (assuming Lions do the right thing) and a full F and FF hand which are both likely to be valued as max value. We also have the ability to pay a % of Liam's salary to tip the deal more in our favour. (Saints cap is starting to get full).

Chesser is interesting. Firstly, Carlton cannot do their Martin trick of threatening to walk him through to the PSD. Their cap is really tight so anything Chesser demands will be easily met by us. Carlton have more tan enough points to match bids on Dean and Ison and they are desperate to get a decent F1. Unless it is priced as pick 1 next year, it wont be our F1. Again Matty has talked him up publicly and how our 1st Round pick has had a load of development work and is now fit so he is highly valued. I would say in all reality a R2 pick in the 20's probably covers it. Problem in this deal is Curnow wanting out.

We can solve the issue for Saints and Blues

Blues
In - Chesser and Cats F1
Out - pick 10 and F2
Blues get another F1 which is valued at 17 but could have upside with injuries etc

Saints
In - Ryan with salary paid in 2026 and pick 34 (useful to get their other targets in)
Out - Marshall (traded for Cats F1 valued at 17)
- excluding the salary paid by us, this values Liam as pick 28. No salary paid is likely to be mid 30's which is hardly a high valuation

Eagles
In - pick 10 and Blues F2
Out - salary for Liam, pick 34

Outcome
2025 - 1 2 10 13 and some small points for any matching
2026 - full hand plus Blues F2 which we likely need with even a good crop of NGA prospects

I hope we look to bring in a few small forwards.
We have some great developing talls up forward, but our small fwd stocks are dangerously low. Champion is a prospect, Cripps and Owies.... (assuming Liam and Tyler are out)

Look at the top teams. They all had a good crop of small forwards... Zac Bailey, Charlie C, Gryan Miers, Tyson Stengle, Nick Watson, Jack Ginnivan, Jamie Elliot...

Duursma and Sharp would be awesome

1,5,6 could get that done...

true but schoenberg is still only 24 but I get it

Tom Cole specialist fwd pocket 💪

We've got Williams and possibly Walley coming in. Dewar could spend more time forward, and you also forgot Newton. Maric and Hutchinson are other taller options that don't play tall and could play forward.

Good call out on Angus Anderson, lot to like about the way he goes about his game.

Duursma gives me Cale Morton vibes, I just can’t shake it.
If we draft him, I’ll back our recruiting staff in 100% though.

Essendon reaching out to the Tigers as well as us to move up in the draft (if Rosa isn’t lying) might also suggest Duursma won’t be their only target.

Besides targeting CDT, Pick 2 might also be valuable for the Bombers to get ahead of the Tigers for a player such as Robey. If so, hopefully we play our cards right and extract max value.

The best thing about getting this deal out of the way early is it gives us plenty of time to work on our other deals and removes any urgency to rush the Chesser and Ryan trades

We can use one of 33,37,52 or 57 for Young - ideally 52 or 57, probably 37 and hopefully not 33

Then we can wait for Carlton and St Kilda to put something to us we’re happy with - it’s up to them given we’d have no issue retaining either player, particularly Ryan who’s contracted for 2026

Splitting pick 2 or trading to move 13 into the top 10 can wait until later, especially with pick 2 which we can afford to sit on until draft night

Picks 1,2 and 13 is a great draft hand as it is so if it doesn’t change it’s fine

Would rather we spend a few spots on stand out state league players who haven't had their chance yet than a few names touted who will provide the same for the Beagles yet have proven not up to AFL standards.

Also zero interest in Swallow.

I agree Duursma has Morton vibes 100% but also he seems a clear no1 pick and we probably have another FOMO situation

Sharp and Cumming, 2 SA kids coming in together would be choice 👌

but twomeys last phantom draft had them 9 and 15 which makes me think just take the no.1 rated

Lachlan McGlade next year, too. I know his exposed form is from when he was 4 foot tall, but he might be the best of the lot.

Jack billings as a rookie?
