2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

Every expansion team has been to a degree raided when theyve come in.

This will be no different. A former number 6 pick who has shown a bit and is a local boy is a GREAT story for the Devils, he could well be their first captain if he has a decent season this year.

The bolded is the issue and it directly contradicts your previous point about getting players who want to come. Im sure every club could look at deals but while players need to agree Tassie is gonna struggle initially, theyll get a couple of marquees by throwing cash at them but guys like Sanders (maybe Arie) will get overs.

Bookmark it if you want, its happened with literally every expansion team, itll happen again.
I’ve seen it from the start and each new team has done a little better than the team before.

The afl has been learning on the job, Tassie have some good operators already so they’re in good hands. Sanders is looking more like bust than a star to me in the context that he was a very hight draft pick. I don’t think you could find anyone prepared to offer up a high first rounder for him now even in a weak draft.

A butts swap is about his value imo, of course if he does wind up in Adelaide and fires he’ll be a valuable asset.

If Tassie can replicate what the giants have done they’ll be doing very well.

Arie’s not worth a packet of twisties at present. If he hangs on with us or finds a new home he has a lot of hard work in front of him, maybe he was no bargain at all.

Takes all the emotion out of it calling it a 'workplace injury". Yeah it is a workplace injury - doesn't make it any less frustrating for supporters hungry for success. He certainly was the face of our flag push before he was injured for 18 months.
That's just an excuse saying he was playing injured and that's why his body language sucked. His body language and defensive efforts sucked before he was injured. Yep he owes us all his effort and absolute best to get himself right.
Whether it's an excuse or a reason is up to you to decide.

I haven't seen or read any reports regarding Max taking shortcuts in his preparation or rehab (other than apparently wandering aimlessly around suburban gyms). Everything is on the contrary... he has worked his ar5e off (which I have seen whenever I have been at preseason training over the past few summers.

If he was a lazy SOB then I'd agree with you.

Anyway, now that Neddy is locked away, how do we get the Bear in?

Our midfield depth now: Nas, Flanders, Macrae, Steele, Pou, Garcia, Windy, Dow, Wilson, Trav (potential) and Box. With Hall (wouldn't be surprised if he spends more time in mid), Henry, and potentially Higgo being able to rotate through.

Assuming Steele stays (which looking unlikely) and Jones goes.

We are looking pretty good now!

Ming has suffered the sort of injuries you put down to bad luck and the nature of the game.

People get frustrated with high draft picks who don’t deliver even when it’s totally out of their control. I haven’t heard anything negative about ming in fact it’s the opposite.

Also we don’t need ming to play 300 we don’t even need him to be winning Coleman’s, we just need him to be fit and firing in a few September’s. If he becomes our Clark Keating then I’ll be a very happy man.

When the 2000's hit we were on top of the game, it changed we made a bad seaford move, cucked ourselves, spent the post roscoe years drafting goodboys and paying off debt, and then somehow we got a decent player base via the rookie draft, the few national drafts we did not **** up, mid season drafts and trading.

In 2011 we picked Ross, Newnes and Webster that was our best draft for a very long time, 2013 should have been good, but developent had no money, 2014 just pretend we got Sinclair at number 1, 2015 got Gresham but injuries, 2016 Ben Long and Battle (win but it took a while and they are not here, although did get marshall), 2017 Coffield and Clark are injured more than they should be and one is not even at the club, 2018 looked promising but King and Wilkie are only left, 2019 we went for Trades and did fill gaps we needed from the 2011 to 2019 era, 2020 covid draft but got Higgins and then finally in 2021 Sharman midseason, NWM, Owens, Windhager.

A decade of crap, injures and bad drafs killed us.
Sums things up beautifully

with any luck, most of these boys will continue to improve & some will eventually want more game time and end up leaving for opportunities.

This will let us just do the GWS/GC of losing people that can't break in for a consistent crack in the middle and replace them with first rounders. Ends up just consistently rejuvenating the list with top end talent

Have to agree to disagree.
