2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th

Pick 7 for Flanders is way overs when you consider Geelong traded 17 for Bailey Smith.

I'd prefer we keep drafting. Trading 1st round picks is something I'm generally opposed to, unless you're getting someone truly elite.
You clearly have NFI about the draft quality this year. Flanders was pick 11 in same draft as Anderson and Rowell and he has had several years in the AFL system developing. Pick 7 which will push out to 11-12 range is the right price.

Elite stats in 2024 and I heard them say on trade radio he was ranked in top 10 players in the league(On stats I presume) in the midst of that. Was pushed out of the midfield this year by Rowell, Anderson & co whilst also nursing a crook back.

Stop making posts and comments about things you obviously have no clue about. Stop wasting peoples time on here

How can you post 7 is way overs when you have NFI why his stats were lower than 2024 🙄🤔

Finally get some trades done today and trade radio don’t even want to talk about it.

No let’s listen to list opinions from Josh Jenkins and interviews with Jack Billings.

Really baffling

Anyone think something is up? Why has this trade gone through so quick, why were we so happy to get rid of pick 7 so quick and easy?
Ross said the line about contracted players on Agenda Setters after Nas resigned.

Maybe not bickering about a 3rd rounder coming back and getting the job done is setting the ground work for us to rip the life out of geelong when it comes to a contracted Ro

For me this trade depends entirely on how shit the draft is. Sounds like an overpay on paper but if there's truly not much talent available around the 7-15 bracket then it could be a win.

You can also have a generational draft and unluckily pick the wrong guy. It's all risk. With Flanders, there is minimal risk that he flops.

10 extra spots for a guy that is contracted, not a coke head and no coming off an ACL.

Sounds we're out here robbing

Bailey was coming off a knee reco, had off field issues, mental health problems & is a dick head!!

**** that degenerate though. He comes cheap because he's an absolute w***er.

The moment Geelong stop winning he's gone and they won't put up with his shit.

Edit : I also generally prefer going to the draft but this scenario with a compromised and weaker draft + our current list profile and other factors make it the right time.
100% if the arse falls out of Geelong with some retirements or a Jezza injury, they'll throw him on the scrap heap so fast.

Genuinely just a mercenary for hire. Put up with him so long as W's keep stacking up but the second it all comes tumbling down they will drop him so fast

So what went wrong with Flanders this year?

3rd in GC B&F and 44 coaches votes in 2024. This year not so much.
This has also been mentioned at length on here and plenty in football media too.

"Great players do get interest, that's why they're great," Damien Hardwick told reporters post-game.

"Sam's had a tough year. He was on fire at the start of the year. He's got a back that, if I'm being completely honest, he probably shouldn't have played half the games he played, but he's tough kid and I love him.

Smith was out of contract and Geelong had the upper hand. It was either pick 17 or nothing for the dogs. They had to cave. So not the best comparison when Flanders still had 2 years on his contract. Good thing is Marshall also still has 2 years, so hopefully we don't let them scam us too
