Pick 2 confirmed. So according to Jasper’s top 10 which I largely agree with and assuming we get GCS pick 7:

1-Willem Duursma (WCE)
2-Cooper Duff-Tytler (WCE)
3-Dyson Sharp (RICH)
4-Xavier Taylor (RICH)
5-Sullivan Robey (ESS)
6-Sam Grlj (ESS)
7-Sam Cumming (WCE)
8-Aidan Schubert (MELB)
9-Lachy Dovaston (HAW)
10-Josh Lindsay (CARL)

If we can’t find a buyer for pick 2 I’m very happy taking Sharp instead of CDT at 2 and leaving with Duursma, Sharp, Cumming. Brilliant.

Oh thank god for that.

Side note: Nice to see it took about 3.5 seconds for confused nuffies to start rambling about assistance from the league and not understanding the difference between Free Agency Compo and 'Free Picks'. The eventual narrative pushed by ill-informed casuals will be that the league 'gave us' Pick 2 when we were shit, therefore all future success is tainted.

Negative Nellie Mode Jokes on them though as we are totally wasting that Pick 2 or at the very least splitting it for a shot at more middling prospects in the Bo Allan mould..

12 + 14 + 17 = 3,043. Covers the Richmond bids Suns hold other picks.

Suns 6 = 1,690 points

Eagles 12 + 33 = 1,522 points

Eagles trade 12 and 33 for 6. Dont bid on the Suns kids.

And whò said it couldnt be done.
YEah Im not sure that will fly with the AFL. Knowing a team is trading a high pick to get more points for an academy bid but trading for less points with the team that holds 1 and 2 is as blatant as you can get. Not that I mind it and Im sure GCS would be OK with it but I dont think the AFL will allow it.

Yessssssssssss. Bye to that mopey bloke that has had one borderline key forward worthy season, approaching 27 and didn’t mind jumping ship while captain because he thought he was worth more than we were willing to give (he wasn’t, and good on the club).

Hopefully they can’t repeat their fantastic run and he remains on their list and ends up his career on the slide while we are rising. All the best, now the enemy. Ginbey to bully him🤝 🦁

This league ticked off on Jack Bowes going to Geelong and GC also giving Geelong their pick 7 for the pleasure of it.

There's zero integrity, just whatever the prevailing mood of the day is.

Just for those saying the deal was meh.

Herald Sun (who are normally east coast biased and driven to applaud clubs that make moves, whether bad or not) assessing the trade. Eagles A-, Lions B+ and Freo C-.

They report the winner in this three-teamer is West Coast, who get the player and the best draft pick of the deal.

The Eagles moved up the draft order and had to hand over a choice (22) they got given on a silver platter by the AFL for losing games, and only did the deal to make sure they still likely get pick 2 as Oscar Allen compensation.

We throw in a F3rd if needed for "the look".

AFL just signed off on pick 2.

This is nothing more than the botttom team using its ladder position to scrape back lost points it has given up over the years.

This is good for both clubs, but the AFL wouldn't sign it off because the points deficit makes it obvious we're using bidding as part of the trade. Needs some additional confusing elements to get it over the line, like our 37/Chesser compensation/Ryan compensation + F3 for their F2.

It won't be popular here but there's a way to start a bidding frenzy between tigers and bombers.

Take sharp at 1.

Then watch both come for pick 2 with both duursma CDT on the board.

Trade 2 12 for 4 5 20

1-sharp (WCE)

2-Cooper Duff-Tytler/duursma ess

3- CDT/duursma rich

4-Xavier Taylor/grjl (RICH)

Leaves plenty options at 5 6
5-cumming wc

6 Shubert

20 slider.

33 37 57 for Banfield, Williams bids

Bang

Assuming that Uwland and Patterson are bid on by the Bombers, the Suns will require MINIMUM 3000 points to match (post-discount).

This will swallow up picks 6, 14, & 17.
Pick 7 will likely be used for the Petracca trade.

I don't think the Suns can trade away any of their top 4 selections without going into serious points deficit, or doing some magic with a F1 trade.

Happy to hear a different opinion.

They would be able to absorb bids at 4 and 5 with 6,14 and 17 (assuming 7 goes for Petracca).

It gets more complicated for them if the bids come at say 2/3 or 2/4. Even with 35 added, they will go into deficit in those situations. It becomes even worse for them if we recieve pick 2 as compo for Allen, because all of their picks get pushed down and are worth less for matching points.

So if anything, they are probably incentivised to trade at least one of those first rounders for a package of later picks that provide a surplus of points.

For example: 6 for our 12/33/37 would give them an additional 160 points. Or 6 for 12/33/37/40 (assuming that's what we get for Chesser) would give them a more comfy 398 point surplus.

Both Melbourne and North Melbourne are pretty well positioned to make a play for 14 with packages of 23/27/41 and 24/25/45 respectively.

EDIT: and there we go, pick 2 as Allen compo pushes their picks down the order.

I think we should explore trading our F2 into this draft, would love to keep pick 12 and still move up to the Suns pick 6 - are there teams who’d trade multiple 20’s picks for our F2?

Personally think we end up with 7 & 8 and the Dees get pick 2 for Petracca.

Trade up with the Blues with Chesser deal and take 1,7,8 & 10 to the draft.

Is that last paragraph actually what they wrote? 🤣

That's an all-time backhander haha

Maybe I am dumb, but if Richmond bid on the Suns kids that's 4,140 points (or 3,726 after the 10% discount).
Suns pick 6 is now shuffled back to pick 8 (Oscar compo plus the bid moves them down).
Eagles pick 12 will be pick 14 when the bid comes (at best).
We can assume pick 33 will stay at 33 after bids/matches.

Pick 8 = 1,443
Pick 14 = 1,024
Pick 33 = 382
Total = 2,849 points.

This is a mile off matching the required 3,726 points if the Tigers bid on both Suns boys.

Happy for someone to rebut my workings but people are overestimating the Suns position on points IMO.

That’s quite possibly the most stupid suggestion I’ve ever heard

So we miss out on the best two prospects in the open pool, reach on Sharp - who I’m very confident will be there at the Suns pick we can trade up for and we don’t even get THAT much for pick 2 despite apparently creating a crazy bidding war?

Oh and pick 6 on a tall forward, just what we need.
