They wanted us to threaten to take him in PSD so they could get a better deal. Not sure how you're coming to any of those conclusions.

Hang on, what?

You think that the reason we were brought up in conversation was because we’re perceived as a basket case by oppositions teams? 🤣 That is an almighty long bow that you have drawn!

It’s obviously because we had pick 1 in the pre season draft and if Sydney couldn’t get us interested or involved, then it significantly diminished Sydney’s power and leverage in their dealings with Adelaide. If Sydney kept asking for too much or more than what Adelaide were willing to pay, then the Crows could just threaten to walk him to the pre season draft, which meant that Sydney likely took less than what they initially wanted or would’ve liked.

The smirk is simply a reaction to the frustration Beatson and his team had at the time, when they were in trade discussions for Dawson, with Adelaide. It would’ve had exactly 0 to do with North Melbourne.
North plays the role of gimp so other clubs can just get what they want.
We can dress it up any way you like - the consensus is we are just not a serious player this time of year.

Each to their own.

Spot on.

We're the only club who hasn't poached at least one genuine A grade player or prospect out of another club for the last 15, maybe 20 years.

Dees, saints, dogs - all lowly clubs at times along the journey yet they all managed to do it.

There's clearly a limiting perception (or reality) out in the marketplace.

We can pretend otherwise but where's our Jake Lever, Tom Boyd, Buddy Franklin, Patrick Dangerfield, Josh Dunkley etc?

Every other club has landed a list management body blow to someone at a point in time other than us.

Haven’t seen it mentioned but Cal said that we will stay with our current picks in the 2nd round and
Not looking to move up

I have zero knowledge of this year's draft but I don't mind this. Have the stones to take the two most suitable players.

We were doing alright a decade ago: Higgins, NDS....even W80 (even tho yes he was 30)

I think you guys need to get a grip, not every move made by other clubs is a conspiracy or a defeat by the NMFC.

The cynic in me asks if the TV deal wasnt signed to have 18 clubs and 9 games on each week - then where would be.

Outside of the season, North really does need to get creative and campaignery and to find an extra edge to make ourselves relevant.

Its not just posters on here, even Duck said that North exploiting the 10 year rule, paying Sydney $10k for access to Carey and Longmire and then getting Denis back to coach the club with his u19's all still there - its this kind of decision making that helped land all 4 of our flags.

If we just play to the system and the rules in front of us, our destiny won't change.

If we are to embrace the fabric of North and who we are as a club - we need to find ways to set ourselves apart of the other 17 teams, otherwise we just won't ever be able to compete.
We are no longer an innovative club.

Well we did get 3 for McKay so we can’t complain too much!
I have no problem with it, the captain of the last placed team went to the premiers. The question is how can the salary cap be working when the premiers can afford an offer big enough to trigger the pick.

Sorry for have an opinion mate, didn’t know you were the only one that had one.
I look forward to hearing it.

You just posted an emotive comment on me backed up with zero discussion of the subject being discussed.

You did get a few happy clappers to clap along though so hopefully that was fun.

Yep we've definitely not benefited from the same compensation system in the past three years, nosiree

The fact we are still crap after the McKay compensation, Essendon still shit after the Daniher compensation and WCE will be shit despite the Allen compensation goes to show what a fart into the wind the assistance is that they give to teams that are stuck on the bottom. It literally takes a GC like tsunami of talent via the academy to turn things around.

There's an argument that we did do something as daring as those things you mentioned and that was making the decision in about 2019 to bottom out.

We completely underestimated how gruelling it was going to be and have made poor decisions along the way but the fact is that since the drafts inception we've never had the access to the top end talent that we've had now.

It is the last thing a club down the bottom needs, losing a senior established player for a pick. Even if the pick turns into a good player (and even at the pointy end of the draft, that is never guaranteed) it resets the development time put into the player lost, which a team trying to rebuild can rarely afford.

It always seems like a big benefit getting a good draft pick, there is hope in the unknown of an unused pick. But even though we clearly got overs for McKay and he has been ordinary at *, short term, the loss of experience hurt us and with Duursma's slower than hoped development and everything else, it is a clear example of the lottery of draft picks.

We can get Seamus Mitchell as a free agent can't we?
Take that, move on and get 2 quality kids at 24 and 25. I think thats best we can hope for.
