Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.

Free Agency Period: Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

It has to be we're into another player and that we are very confident we'll get them.

Maybe.

Tomorrow will be an interesting day. Because there are a few questions we would need to answer here.

There was no inclination of this outcome a few hours earlier from Dilena.

Why doesnt GWS have to take any responsibility for not doing more to get the trade done?

It takes 2 clubs to do a deal and 2 clubs stuffing up for negotiations to break down to this degree.

I just don't see us intentionally facing the backlash rightly/wrongly of the back flip without knowing SDK is involved for Marshall.

To0 many things line up, we publicly comment on Aleer and immediately Geelong offer Pick 19 among others for Curnow ?

Aleer's manager statement doesn't sound like we would walk him to the PSD ( which we would have communicated to him ) that sounds like the bridge is well and truly burnt.

I am just happy that we are relevant again. We are the talk of the town and on everyone's lips now. Backing out of the Aleer deal maybe due to money or a better player available, whatever it is, it's for the benefit of the St Kilda football club. Sure, we could have called Aleer and his manager ahead of time, but I'm sure there is a reason. SOS and Gubby are seasoned operators and I trust them.

It’s a bad look however you wanna spin it, by all means saints first etc. but this is a pretty rare occurrence to happen like this

It’s not over till it’s over. Many deals have been revived on the last day. Let’s see what GWS say to a third rounder to pay for Oliver’s wage.

I’m a little tempered on the Aleer thing.

I really can’t understand blind defense of it, presumably we did our due diligence and imo if you court a player and get them to nominate you you kinda have to get the deal done (unless the incumbent club is being completely unreasonable). There is no way to imply that in the current player market this is a good look.

Having said that, we clearly don’t think he’s gonna be the right player for us moving forward, so I’d rather we back out than do it just cause we’re suppose to.

Yep agree with all of that. It’s a bad look for future dealings, unless something else hasn’t emerged to explain it. I’m still happy with it(!) from solely a player / cost / pick perspective, but hopefully it doesn’t cost us a future target. Even though we are the only club making deals, we will cop this for a fair while. It’s quite unusual.

No but they cant' have been that reasonable to deal with for a trade to blow to this degree in such a short amount of time.

People need to stop claiming the recruitment of Silvagni had anything to do with this.

He committed to us prior to the trade period. If it impacted Aleer, we had time to tell him.

Ya kidding yourself if you think landing SOS has nothing to do with this call whatsoever.

Might be other reasons tied in but we wouldn't have thrown the towell in 6 days out otherwise after chasing him for two years.

The rumoured deal was a second rounder for a third rounder.

That really doesn’t value Aleer highly. But it does make the machinations of a trade difficult if we don’t have a second rounder and at this point all we have left is a 2027 pick
