Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Forcing Charlie to play VFL for 4 years doesn't sound very "Carlton first" now does it?
Won’t happen, if Charlie continues to be disruptive and uncooperative, unfortunately the club has very little choice but to trade him.
Otherwise we run the risk to dilute the value of a prime asse.

All target and land, A-graders each year.

Austin is like the “bin chicken” of trade week, pecking around the c-grade scraps.

We have a heap of cash why aren’t we upping our standards.
We have/had more a graders than most teams.

He's addressing our depth needs. It's just not the sugar hit some supporters want.

We'd literally get done for tanking too...
Blue, no idea about that and normally I would be business is business, get the best deal and move on. This feels different to me. Charlie is behaving like an infant, particularly when it appears he encourages his ‘security blanket’ to agitate his current club and its supporters.

I’d back any effort by my club to play him in the vfl if we chose not to trade him and he sooked it up.

Yeah, but it would feel some of us feel good.
The reality is if we don't trade him and he stays he's probably kicking 60 goals give or take. I'm happy with 60 goals and I am happy if someone else wants that 60 goals they can pay for it. If he goes to Geelong he kicks at least 60 goals, well three trash picks aren't getting you that 60 goals. We have to realise what we have and also what we are going to give someone else.

Not sure why Charlie making appearances is triggering our fan base so much. If anything he's helping us get offers by doing so. He could have went down a path of slagging the club, forcing a trade etc etc however all he is doing is posing for pictures with his mates at clubs he wants to go to, as long as they pay up I see nothing wrong with it. Ty Charlie.

Butters does a photo op with a Blue staffer and we love it.

He’s been addressing the depth each trade period since he started.

When are we going to start building depth, by bringing in class players. Like the top teams do.

I mean common sense tells you what those four clubs have that we don't...

That’s not true. We are still Carlton, a big powerful club. We still attract top players. Houston wanted us last year.

I get that, he's pissing off a lot of Carlton people...

and its not unintentional, I mean I know he's not the sharpest tool, but no one is that stupid...

a trade to Sydney is not his preference, but he'll take it over staying if we're to believe everything we've heard.

if that trade to Sydney benefits Carlton more than keeping said petulant sook, then we will do it or else "Carlton first" really is just another catch phrase from the club.

imo, Charlie will not be winning a flag regardless of where he goes unless he gets to GC, then I can see it happening... but not at Sydney or Geelong.

in a few years time, nothing will feel better than having a well run Carlton machine contending for a flag whilst he's got one foot in the retirement home without a premiership medal to his name.

The change in FS for next year and us getting another first rounder to secure Walker has made trading Charlie more enticing than it was 3-4 weeks ago
Precisely, go into next year with only one first round pick at our own peril. Even without the Walker scenario, it makes sense given the nature of our list.

Most on here are carrying on like going all out for some big name midfielder is going to make us a powerhouse club all of a sudden, even with all the departures and an aging 'core'. The club is going to take time - I don't want shortcuts.

If Conway is that injury prone at Geelong I really don't want to see what will happen if he came across the Carlton. Might just spontaneously combust

I was shit scared of that as a kid..

And quicksand.

If we have to deal with Geelong can Lawson Humphries be included somehow please 🙏 Kid is class.

I did see one of the journos suggesting Humphries, Ollie Henry, 1st rounder and future 1st rounder. I don't mind it.

How long is this new-found passion for the game going to last this time?
Until he gets some money back in his back pocket?

Do not want.
I mean he'll be on a one year deal, but due diligence will be done.
Can you tell me a deal that was better for a player in the last 10 years?
Can you tell me of a player with a longer existing contract?
Shall we wait for the Trac deal?

A mid first rounder plus a late first rounder is not earth shattering - equiavlent to pick 4 or 5 plus hayward

Not sure how to value Hayward
Best way to rate in this instance is more in the context of the draft as prospect - where I'd probably have him in the 30-40 range - then consider his immediate value and remaining career against a probable draftee, which probably pushes him up a tad, so mid-to-late 2nd.

We need more.
Came here to ask this.

2025, 2026 and 2027 picks? It's Geelong, I'm sure the AFL would allow it
The AFL is hitting the reset button on rules regarding required first round pick selections across a 4 year window for a team: the minimum remains 2, but nothing before 2025 is being considered for any team as of this trade period.

It's being done to help deal with the Tasmanian concessions. Geelong would need to find another first round pick at some point and take it to a draft night.
So much can be done with those picks. We will also have money. Brings names like Butters into play.
Pick 3 or 4 gets Butters? We have the cash.

But honestly I see him as a weaker version of Murphy that we'd be getting in his prime, just a case of what that's worth to us versus turning his head next year in an open market, even if PA match the offer.

If we don't rate a prospect such as Robey, Sharp or Duff-Tytler ahead of him:

1. Why would Port?
2. Why not try and grab another top prospect alongside Walker in 2026 instead?
Not sure why you need to comment on a trade hypothetical.
You weren't asking a rhetorical question, but fair point on the full exchange details, wasn't made clear.

That still doesn't resolve what GWS are doing up forward, which would be top heavy and aging.
If the Warner’s get to west coast for 2. I’d take 2, 9 and Hayward.
The Swans would umm and ahh about it but they'd definitely accept the offer

Mostly because we already have pick 9
