Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

And I'm sure they will try that but i would argue Ryder was miles better around the ground (not withstanding the actual ruck stuff) than tdk was. Tdk has the football brain of an athlete which is why he cant play forward. So I doubt it can work. But power to you if it does.

You just got smashed in a grand final against a team with 2 rucks, neither can play fwd so….

No sugar coating this, disaster for the Saints.
In no world does a coach want to be forced to play two rucks in today’s game - yet the Saints will have to, or play Marshall in the VFL (having passed up pick 18).
Cats made an offer with a deadline. Saints wanted to drag it out. Publicly said they have heaps of money etc, then suddenly couldn’t do the deal with the GWS player they’d committed to bring into the club (and yesterday said it was likely to happen!). Now players in the future will think Saints can’t be guaranteed to get moves done.
Cats have ruck options coming through (albeit with a bad injury run so far) and signed Stanley as back up. And showed Saints (and other clubs) we make offers but if they aren’t accepted we move on.
Why do we need to play a ruck-rover in the two's.
Stop telling us what our player can or can't do.
You wanted Marshall, came to us with unders
We walked away from you.
Get it straight ffs.

Granted we lost, but I don’t think big Oscar’s 8 touches was a game breaker and doubt he plays if no for injuries. My point being it’s unlikely teams will play two rucks - but who knows maybe that’s Ross’s plan and if there was no intent to trade Marshall why did the GWS deal fall over…
They wanted us to cough up F2 for Aleer.
Surely can't argue that, that is overs for KP depth only.
He wouldn't of played in the finals for Gws, if Buckley was available.
We got Jsos late, who knew.
It just fell into place, that we didn't actually need him.
He has a 3 year offer from GWS, so not so bad for him.

Marshall is about as much of a forward as Rhys stanley is. Gun player is marshall but not a forward.
Stanley ducks his head under the high ball.

Good on Geelong though for extracting as much talent as they did.

Except for the fact that they have committed to Laverde as well.

Its a nightmare for Aleer and player agents hate this sort of stuff.

This forum is a delicious read full of bravado and strong opinion from the usual Geelong, Carlton righteous supporters:

"When we want something we get it" then lashing out when it doesn't happen (I realise this could change).

Trade period is not over yet - what I do know is as a Saints supporter I'm very pleased with how aggressive and successful the club has been in this period.

Everyone can have an opinion that is not often based on facts- ie how the Saints have managed their salary cap over the last couple of years to be in this position to be aggressive - that is why it is so fun to read some of the posts on here and other forums.

Except that hasn't been the narrative at all. The narrative from St Kilda supporters has been that Geelong will have to overpay. The narrative from Geelong supporters has been that an "overpay or leave it" scenario will automatically result in "leave it". At the moment it's tracking for both sets of supporters being proven right.

Sam Edmund reporting it? Looks like Marshall will be a Cat by COB today then.

Side note - I actually tuned into Trade
Radio after this and he immediately backtracked with ‘as it currently stands….’ and ‘right now I believe that….’.

I dont disagree with any of that but my point was more stanley didnt have the nous to be a kpf and while marshall is a super athlete theres nothing to indicate he does either. Hes better in his normal position. People forget kpf requires a lot of football brain its much easier to make a good athlete into a ruck than it is to make one into a key forward unless they have that IQ.

From what is being reported in the media you offered this years first and that’s it .

Reports were that we offered this year’s first and you wanted F1. I didn’t see any discussion about later picks, swaps etc.

To me it seems a no brainer both clubs could agree on 2025 first + 2026 second for Marshall + late pick (F3 or F4).

Values Marshall at more than a first, gives you a F2 for Aleer, gets you back into the draft (first pick is currently #50) and gets Marshall’s salary off the books.

I’ll only believe the deal is off once the deadline passes, noting Edmund is already backtracking on his ‘categorical’ statement.

You make my point so well - cheers. Saints supporters have not been saying that, a fair deal should be reached that is not over paying.

There have been quite a few posts on here actually saying when Geelong wants a player they get it and then going along with that narrative.

Personally I am happy if Marshall stays he has shouldered the ruck duties for ages and deserves a chop out potential other role.

I like your last sentence trying to tread a thoughtful response after having a crack.

cheers

Not really. Nice try though. A stalemate means St Kilda demanded overpayment that was not met. We may well be tracking for that. If Geelong actually give in and pay overs, then our supporters will have been proven wrong.
