Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

The thing about Geelongs offer that’s so poor is they’ve clearly courted him for ages, got the news out etc and haven’t even bothered to try and turn those picks into anything. They could have been shifting them trying to add value but they’ve arrogantly gone… here’s what we got, take it or leave it type deal.
Our forward line will be interesting.I’m backing in Kemp to contribute . Harry down the line and drifting fwd. Centre forward to small /bigg . Read the game and know your teammates. I’m excited about next year .Go Blues.

Great news, we lose nothing by trailing him and at his best or to his potential is a better small forward than almost all on our list!

Smart move!
Agree, sometimes a few life lessons and a couple of years of maturity can do wonders.

Coming from a long way back so chance of him pulling it off is low, but has the ability no doubt.

Low risk, high potential pay-off. Most likely outcome not much. I like the thinking.

I would tell the "salary cap sponsor cheating" Cats to stick that offer and "Cotton Off", unles they at least made it 2 picks and a real good player, because with Charlie in their side they would be playing off in the GF for the next 3 seasons and the picks would all be very late first rounders. Carlton will be hoping that this offer from Geel stirs the Swans into action I would imagine as I think that Carlton would rather that Charlie does not get his dream move to the Cats unless a player is definately involved, as he really has let the club down.........I wonder what Ed thinks about all this?!!

Cerra who went for pick 6 + F3 ?

Saad who went for pick 8 + 87?

Flanders who went for pick 8?

Dangerfield who went for 9 + 28 + Dean Gore?

Treloar who went for 7 + 8 with a 2nd coming back?

How are these in any way better than Sydneys 2025 1st, 2026 1st, Hayward and a pick for Florent/Ainsworth?
The irrepressible Dean Gore.... Adelaide really made out like bandits on that one.

I mean he'll be on a one year deal, but due diligence will be done.

Can you tell me of a player with a longer existing contract?

Best way to rate in this instance is more in the context of the draft as prospect - where I'd probably have him in the 30-40 range - then consider his immediate value and remaining career against a probable draftee, which probably pushes him up a tad, so mid-to-late 2nd.

We need more.

The AFL is hitting the reset button on rules regarding required first round pick selections across a 4 year window for a team: the minimum remains 2, but nothing before 2025 is being considered for any team as of this trade period.

It's being done to help deal with the Tasmanian concessions. Geelong would need to find another first round pick at some point and take it to a draft night.

Pick 3 or 4 gets Butters? We have the cash.

But honestly I see him as a weaker version of Murphy that we'd be getting in his prime, just a case of what that's worth to us versus turning his head next year in an open market, even if PA match the offer.

If we don't rate a prospect such as Robey, Sharp or Duff-Tytler ahead of him:

1. Why would Port?
2. Why not try and grab another top prospect alongside Walker in 2026 instead?

You weren't asking a rhetorical question, but fair point on the full exchange details, wasn't made clear.

That still doesn't resolve what GWS are doing up forward, which would be top heavy and aging.

The Swans would umm and ahh about it but they'd definitely accept the offer

Mostly because we already have pick 9
We don’t have pick 9. We have pick 11.

I don't believe we need WC involved. Just make sure the deal includes Sydney's 1st this year and next year.
Then use our pick 11 and Sydney's 10 to move up to pick 2 and Chesser from WC.
But if we put it on Geelong or Sydney to get pick 2 as a precondition of the trade, we can keep the TDK pick and use it to trade into next year for a future 1st. 3 future 1st round picks should be the goal.

But the media...

No club has ever offered 3 first rounds like this

What a joke. 🤡
I mean it is a monster offer, in a sense.

It’s just made by a club that expects, and probably will, finish top four/eight in the next few years.

If it was accepted and they slide the next two years (or if he gets injured) then they probably would’ve paid major overs for him.

Not saying we take it and it obviously falls short of our expectation for an established senior player to be involved, but let’s not pretend that it’s not without its risks or its not a ballsy move…

If 2027 picks are allowed to be traded. Couldn’t we use it for a 2026 pick we could use for Cody.
There will be 25 round one picks in 2027 when the Devils join, not including F/S selections etc. How would you determine the value of an unknown 2027 pick in a 2026 pick trade?

Geelong’s 2027 R1 might be in the mid/late 20s.

Let's not forget Charlie was on track for a third Coleman in a row till he got injured in 2024, how many games in a row he kicked bags of goals and won us games, but saying that I'm not a fan of someone disrespecting my club and I'm sure guys like Weiters cripps and Walsh wouldn't either
