NMFC versus the Limitless Cash for Players Saints next year

So based on the trading completed by the Saints so far this trade period, (not to mention the cash splashed - which I just did) and bearing in mind they have just Pick 49 left to secure Ryan and Aleer (which they will no doubt do with future picks and further splashed cash) how much will they beat us by on the two possible occasions they will play us next year?

Of course, all guesses at future margins in these games, should be based on each posters assessment of where we are at from a "Basket Case", position, the most common assessment as far as I can see, to "totally stuffed" and should be relegated to just VFL Reserves status or lower.

I define "basket case" thrashings as 110 points plus and "totally stuffed" as 170 points plus.

At the risk of this post coming back to bite me midway through next year, we will beat them. They're a hapless organization riddled with and by failure. They have recruited cowards and rubbish players from other clubs, they're giving more and more power to Ross Lyon, which is akin to giving an arsonist a majority share in your firewood company, and they've won precisely zero since before the moon landing. They suck. They'll always suck. You know this in your heart to be true.

I don't like to judge the teams around us too harshly but they had a really mixed bag year. Nice wins against Cats, Freo and Port at the start of the season, no mans land in the middle including the Eagles only win for the year, flogged by the Dogs twice (a familiar feeling), finished off with an exciting comeback against Melbourne that lead into really close wins against us, the Bombers and the Tigers.

Next year will require some quick gelling with the side and they kind of have some of the same queries they did last year. Max King still has question marks over him getting out there. TDK is no real upgrade on Marshall, although they don't really need to be concerned about their #1 ruck for a decade. Flanders will get plenty of it but is the midfield strong considering their two best "mids" in NWM and Sinclair have flair for coming off HB? Does Aleer improve their back line or just their depth? Can Liam Ryan move the needle in a forward line that already gets a lot of value from their smaller forwards?

They're in the same spot as us in one major regard and that's the requirement for the drafted kids of the last 3-4 years to really take huge strides. If that happens, they play finals. If we beat them, they have anchored themselves.

We say this every year and I look forward to next year's 14 point loss.

to be honest I sort of thought the same thing when a bunch of players randomly decided Richmond was the place to be in the mid-2010s. Sometimes if enough players make a weird decision they will a dynasty into reality. Could crash and burn or it could somehow cause all the planets to align and deliver them a second premiership

You definitely seem "Flawed" there Genius

We will definitely beat StK hey? Just like how we were definitely going to bet them at the end of this season.

They are having a decent crack & doing what they can to get themselves out of the shlt. Sure, it may not work, but they are having a crack. Unlike you guys who seem to have no concept of what players are required to succeed in the modern game.

I reckon Saints pulling the plug on Aleer means they have something better. Add in the fact that the Cats are the best at getting their man, a reunion of the DeKoning brothers is a logical explanation

Since this was posted they have

Reneged on a deal they spent two years putting together, infuriating literally every other AFL-linked individual in the world, and devastating a kid who had been sold the globe

Failed to get rid of their captain and his bloated contract because he's a terrific bloke and wants to stay at the club and fight for his spot

Initially said theyd trade their best ruckman to Geelong, then when Geelong pulled out of the deal, their ruckman now has to stay at St Kilda and split time with the other ruckman they're also paying 1.7m a year, suggesting both of them will have to play forward half the time, a position the bloke they're paying 1.7m a year is literally in the bottom three in the competition in

Traded future assets for Liam Ryan of all people, who has been cooked for a year

An organisation beset by incompetence

Saints have put together a list that can beat Geelong or Brisbane, but then lose to West Coast or Richmond.

Slowly becoming what Carlton turned into. No coincidence the list manager is the common denominator.
