I was only just told the other day that Justin Reid is a bit arrogant and not super popular with many other clubs (this is from someone that actually deals with him outside of the public eye). Hasn't really impacted us at the trade table in recent years though, so not sure it matters all that much.

Didn't Kinnear just recently have a bit of a winge about how we threatened to walk Dawson to the PSD? and how they had to fold because of that?

Which says to me Reid isn't adverse to throwing the card on the table

It’s not a static threat year to year though. We had the 4th pick and both Suns and Pies had very well known cap issues, so we only had to get past Kangaroos. The key though is the preparedness of the player to be involved that way. We actually offered up all our 1st rounders mid negotiation for Dawson for the pick to get JUH. Compare that to 1 year later where we couldn’t have agreed to 5 quick enough for Rankine whilst they’re dumping 7 with a player to Cats.

The player has a lot of influence in these negotiations. Ah Chee’s manager will be starting to limber up.

Hes always been a fairly arrogant bloke, he's a salesman.

I saw this reported somewhere else earlier this year but I forget where. Something about how Reid was one of the more difficult list managers to work with.

Absolutely not

Henry Smith would be worth a 3rd round pick at best. He is a depth ruckman at Brisbane with no clear path into the firsts now that Draper is their first ruck and they still have Fort on the list

The value of Ah Chee (2nd round pick) + Henry does not equal pick 16
The real value there would be our 16 + 3rd rounder for Ah Chee, Smith and their pick 23

Now we are talking nonsense. We need to supply something to Brisbane that they’ll accept or he’ll have to reconsider where he wants to go or run the gauntlet in a draft.

Unless you genuinely reckon Callum Ah Chee is going to court to bring down the entire AFL draft and trade system.

It's not going to court.

The more coming out about Aleer the worse it looks for Saints.

We talk about hard bargains etc putting off players going to a club which probably isn’t true… but this?

They’ve signed a lot of players on big money when they’ve failed to attract them in the past, so good on them. But now? If you’re a player and Saints approach you are you actually going to believe them? Tell your club to shove it only for Saints to decide to focus energy elsewhere?

Without a signed contract their word is now worth shit. If I was a player I’d be telling my manager to look elsewhere. Be surprised if they’re able to attract players in the future.

I just watched it. It was an interview with Morris, he spoke at length about Dawson, concluding with "Port dropped out and we couldn't get North involved, So at the end of the day they could always walk him to the PSD, they knew it, we knew it and they'd done it before with Jackson Hately".

So my assumption from his choice of words/delivery was that Sydney were trying everything for that not to eventuate, but Reid made it known that he'd done it before and he'd do it again.

Can't possibly know the second part for sure, but that would be my interpretation.

“Port dropped out”? Interesting take.

He's a bit more than that, he's a pretty competent Key Forward when played forward with a good setshot goal kick as well .

I'd be tempted given where pick 16 finally lands after bids etc

I call this as BS

How many if our trades fall-over? - not many

GWS don’t like us because we marched Harley through to PSD and Sydney know we pants them in Dawson deal - knowing PSD was an option we used before

The AFL need to go back to a 1 week trade week, they're losing fan interest by dragging it out and making it more boring than it needs to be.
Most fans get their news on these sites now IMO. The idea of spending 2 weeks listening to what the VIC media call professionals makes me physically ill.

In terms of listenability, its Cal and Riley, then MASSIVE amounts of daylight. Then everyone else in a 50-way tie for dead last.

It appears, getting Silvagni changed their opion (need) for Aleer .....it is a **** thing to do though by them .....and the diversion tactic of picks, is exactly that, a diversion from the truth

I guess we think O'Brien is better than the next available option

Not sure whether that's true, but it seems the market is either Rowan Marshall or depth

Ah Chee is a good in, but I'm worried the club is getting complacent - by not looking to add to our midfield, or top up our depth.

If you stand still at AFL level you go backwards.

I think Oliver would've fit our needs perfectly, and given he's a salary dump I'm personally disappointed we didn't chase him harder. George Stevens would also be a good get, having lost Crouch, Schoenberg and big doubts on Berry. Brisbane show you can never have too many good mids.

I know Read and Ogilvie don't prioritise rucks, but another small forward (eg Rosas), or another winger (especially if injuries strike / if Curtin moves inside) would be good to future proof our list. We know guys like Jones and Sholl aren't the answer.

We'll see if Reid has an ace up the sleeve
oh please Geelong would know - if they not offering george stevens a contract hes not at the level.

I can see Thrillthorpe7 being correct about Reid's arrogance .....many of the great footballers & successful people in the world are arrogant .....it only becomes an issue, if it impacts Reid's dealmaking

So far, his recent record says it doesn't

Based on our pursuits of NWM and Petracca we have over $1 million of spare space in our salary cap, which I guess is going unused or on contract front loading
It's never made clear, but surely, surely we have the ability to choose to pay a player more in a given year, to front load a contract?

You'd 100% make that a clause in everyone's contract and then if it's possible, you'd always make sure you spend the max cap, creating space in the cap in future years. Like we'd be insane not to be doing this.

The only time this bites you is when players retire early, but that shouldn't scare us off you'd think.

Trade week is a 2 way street though. We haven’t lost anyone but are bringing in a good player. Every other club would be happy with a net positive result, especially if they had 3 top 8 picks in their side who have huge improvement in them to come.

Personally I am becoming very impressed with Reid. This is a very good draft for an SA club to have some collateral in so I’m very glad we haven’t overpaid for a “shiny new toy” just to score points with the public.
This ! .....if you gain two, but lose 1 ....and depending on who you lose, have you really gained much

If SAINT's had gained De Koning ....but then lose Marshall ...IMO they haven't gained that much

So far, apart from 2-3 elite players ....the rest have simply been Clubs shuffling deck chairs

Why listen to Trade Radio, if 2 min later the socials spread the news ....avoids all the adds, and padding by the presenters
