2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

Praying for some hope next year may this kitten bless us even in this trying trade period.

Deven will be a DFA so Brisbane is doing us a favour because that way we don't have to use a trade pick for him. Didn't he finish runner up in the VFL's F&B.
Probably he's ranked in Brisbanes top 30 players which puts him way in front of a lot of our players including the ones we've traded out.

THis has been a crap trade period. Dont pretend otherwise

We still have no ruck and are stuck with Deven Robertson a delisted player as our midfield saviour all while losing Liam Ryan and Campbell Chesser unexpectedly too

Shocker
Sux to be a one win team. But at least some players wanted to come to us. Not one player has wanted to go to Norf this trade period. It is draft or nothing this year for them.

About Starcevichs concussions, not sure if any of you watched this video. Interview with Starcevich. His concussions while not ideal, are not as bad as I thought. Unless he is lying, he has had one bad concussion, a 2nd one that wasnt too bad and the others were very minor and he was fine the next day. And he did admit to getting a minor concussion on grandfinal day to settle that argument.

You can't downplay a 3 month concussion.

I remember when Brisbane first claimed he wasn't concussed in the GF and myself and a couple of other posters called instant BS on that. And a large number of posters on here got all upset.

"What would you know, i'll believe the AFL and it's doctors and the Lions doctors and if they say he wasn't concussed then what you are saying is just a conspiracy theory and your just being negative." Thats the gist of what they were saying.

Seems pretty funny now. Hopefully they learn from it. When people are put in a position where they are incentivized to lie, and the lies will be told to people they don't care about or feel any obligation to, and there will be no consequences if it is realised in the future that they did lie, then in that circumstance 99.9% of people will lie. Don't expect anything less.

I reckon I may have answered the same as Starcevich did on GF day. Knowing a club was about to offer me a massive contract and scared if I said I was concussed during the GF, Eagles might cancel that offer.

I was one that thought it was a lie at the time. We never did hear from any doctors, and there was no game the following week, so he really didnt need to admit to the world he was concussed during the game. Wouldve been interesting had that GF been the semi final instead.

You can only take in as many picks as list spots available. If we go in with 10 picks but only have four spots, the last six picks just get deleted entirely when the draft starts.

However what you can do is make a trade one second after the draft starts to accumulate a shitload more picks than list spots. Hence why we can carry spare picks in for GC and then hand them over as soon as the draft begins.

Pending clarity on what we’ve done with elevating some of our rookies, best guess is we will take five picks in.
I've always wondered how this works with the picks that are eaten up by bids. If clubs can only have as many picks as list spots, then theoretically across the whole draft there are only as many picks as there are available list spots, right? Does that mean with every extra pick used to match a bid there is a main list spot at one of the clubs that will go unfilled (as multiple picks will be used to fill one list spot)? Who are these clubs that are holding onto unused main list spots?

For example in 2023 Brisbane used 4 picks to match Will Ashcroft. Does that mean that across the draft there were 3 main list spots that went unfilled in that draft because of that bid match?

No - any unfilled list spots simply become picks at the end of the draft after everyone else (or you choose to leave the available for SSP etc), but any team can keep picking as long as they want to up the back end.

As for picks, the "draft picks must match list spots" rule is pretty recent (last year I think), but at that point they said it only applied to your starting point on draft night.

So last year, coming in, Brisbane has as many picks as list spots, but as soon as the draft opened, they immediately executed three trades (which would have been pre-arranged) to swap out their existing picks for lots more later picks at a points upgrade, most notably kicking off by doing two trades that swapped 27 and 34 for 35,37,48,56, and 73.

This year however they've change the rules again to say that a team can only ever hold as many picks as they have list spots (excluding "filler" picks at the end), so Brisbane can't do this year what they did last year, which means they cant trade down for heaps of shitty picks and will need to bank fewer, better picks, then the ones the lose will force them into taking more players at the end of the draft.

Lots of crying here over losing Chesser and Ryan - honestly, **** those guys, they weren't up for the fight and have moved on. We need 100% of the squad committed to the cause - not a bunch of Tom Barrasses trying to weasle their way out because they aren't up for the hard road.

Trade for Chesser is fine - Ryan...meh...maybe slight unders? - if St Kilda aren't suddenly the good team every seems to assume they will be next year (huh?), then it's a fine deal. Even then, those deals aren't making or breaking our future here.

Thanks for the info!

This answers one of my main concerns; how we'll hold onto very late picks to match potential R3+ late bids on NGAs. Sounds like if we consolidate our later picks into better picks on draft night we'll have the spare list spots to unlock the later picks.

I wasn't aware of the change to the rule around not holding more picks than list spots on draft night, it looks to be an extremely subtle but effective way to discourage collecting many poor picks to match early bids. I've been a fan of the changes to point values, and the rule next year around only using two picks to match bids seems to have really flipped the value in favour of earlier picks (as it should be).

Look at the rucks who've actually moved and tell me which ones are better than what we currently have and don't say Reidy, he's a complete shit truck.
Grander concern is more around midfield still for that reason. Tons of midfielders are gettable but we just didnt offer batshit insane money too.

Ill say it once and ill say it again. We need to throw insane money around to get people over... we just need to make sure that player fills a positional need for the team as opposed to just knowing how to get to Scarbarough beach as the pre requisite

I’m sorry champ, I’ll say it again, I just don’t rate what you’ve got to say.
