Sooo, we have Butters, Butts and Ballard, all free agents next year?
I hope Sammy Power is thinking what I'm thinking 🤔

I think that is part of our trade problem always thinking of what we might get next season which is so far off. Sure, you have some plans for the future but there no guarantees we are getting any of these guys. Competition for Butters will be immense.

We should be looking at how we can improve our list in 2026 to be a contender next season through the trade. I do not see any evidence of this happening.

He has good skills but nothing stands out physically. I don't see first round talent.

I saw him play against us and liked what I saw. What I take from the clip you showed is that he:

  • Gets to the right spots,
  • Is an accurate shot for goal,
  • Needs to work on his field kicking,
  • Brings Energy,
  • Happy to tackle and pressure,
  • Seems to have a good tank.

Ballard is not a BGrader - he is an A Grade talent. A clear leader shows very popular at the club. He is better than Butts. Would throw the kitchen sink at him this year and try and wrap up with JUH, Buderick transaction. He should be unavailable but coming off injury - players feel like they haven’t been part of the club and can be easier to dislodge - you never know.

If we don’t succeed - set up him up for next year. Then we get an oldie for one year Frost or even Aidan Corr from North (ex Giants) to hold us over for a year - these are BGraders but are more genuine defenders.

All the players mentioned would cost nothing in regards to draft picks.
We offered Barrass 800k plus, that was before we off loaded Macrae, Daniel and Smith. Now we have 8-900k in the kitty from JUH's contract off our books.
So from the outside looking in we should have plenty of cash to get these players across the line.
Next years trades are often done the year before.

Surely Dovaston is our selection come the draft? Looks the goods.
I've been hot on him all year, but I'd love a miracle and have Grlj slip to us.

I wouldn't mind Frost as a 1-year stop gap.

I really like Ballard though and am surprised he hasn't been mentioned outside of we BF chatters

JAMARRA UGLE-HAGAN

The Western Bulldogs' No.1 pick passed his medical with the Suns and is on track to join Gold Coast. He has one year to run on his deal at the Dogs but will join Gold Coast on a modest, cut-priced deal as he looks to get his career on track. The Bulldogs are in talks with the Suns on a trade for Connor Budarick, so whether this gets wrapped into that deal or not remains to be seen. But either way the Suns' price for Ugle-Hagan will be a late draft selection as Damien Hardwick banks on getting the key forward back to AFL level.

BUKU KHAMIS

Trade talks over Khamis have dragged on and could go deep into the window, with Carlton prioritising early moves for Ben Ainsworth and Campbell Chesser. The Western Bulldogs had wanted something inside the first two rounds of the draft for the contracted defender, but the Blues shifted a future second for Ainsworth and moved pick No.41 for Chesser. It's unlikely Carlton's No.54 selection will get a deal done, as the Dogs had been trying to re-contract Khamis through the year before he hits free agency next season.

CONNOR BUDARICK

The Budarick negotiations have been held up due to the potential of this deal being mixed in with a host of other moves, with an exact trade package still up in the air. Gold Coast had initially asked for the No.33 pick from the Western Bulldogs, though that request was rebuffed. There have since been further talks around tacking Jamarra Ugle-Hagan to this deal, as well as the Dogs potentially moving whatever they get from Carlton for Buku Khamis to the Suns in exchange for Budarick. There are no questions around whether this gets done, but it could drag out deep into Wednesday's deadline.

Jamarra and Buku for Budarick. Imagine saying that 12 months ago!

No. He doesn’t want to leave. People on here want to force out our young players with elite potential for fringe players from other clubs (Butts) who won’t make a difference in our defensive system. It’s bizarre.
They want a shinny new toy,and will do anything to get it.

Great pick swap for us. Means we effectively get Budarick for free and sets us up to land Butters next year.
