I agree with the sentiment that it’s just simply annoying where every deal feels like a “loss” of varying magnitudes. Obviously this time the feeling is minimal but the feeling is still there.

It can also be argued that Pick 38 really doesn’t mean much this year if GWS are happy to offload Pick 37 to go from Pick 14 to 12. But yeah, still annoying.

Anyway, looking forward to what Young can bring. I watched a few Richmond games in the 2nd half of the year and he looks to have a solid balance of lockdown and attacking ability. Seems to have a good kick as well. Essentially a better version of Brock with a slightly more mature body (with all due respect).

Any competent list manager would’ve got the Young deal done for a pick in the 50’s or at least 41, people will say it’s not worth sooking over but can you imagine when we’re involved in a bigger deal?

We have no idea how to exploit leverage and people really think we’ll bid on kids at 1 and 2, lol.

Forever the nice guys but that good will is never returned to us.
We were involved in a bigger deal for Starcevich where we came out with the best result of the 3 clubs involved just last week.

Geez, I know when you break it down to 3 picks it doesn't sound like a lot.

But I'd never heard of Tylar Young before, had to ask Richmond supporters who he was and was he any good?
That was our picks in the 50s if ever I've seen a trade. 38 is significant overs, the fact it was more than Chesser shows we are weak at the trade table at the moment.

Malcolm Rosas went for picks in the 50s.

I know a lot of people are really happy with the trade period at the moment, but I think you're accepting mediocrity.
Can you honestly say we've done really well?

Chesser for 41 - Blues win that deal.
Ryan and 27' F3 for F2 - Saints win that deal.
Young for 38 - Tigers win that deal.
The mega trade for Starvevich was even.

So if you sum up all of the above, we're down in trade week.

For a club on it's knees, you need to eek as much value out of trade week as possible. We simply haven't done that.
The good clubs do, Cats and Brisbane are relentless in trade week. We are not.

Did you see what Freo paid for Bolton?

bolton is next level up player and was in contract. I guess we will never know.

just like we will never know machination of eagles screwed up 12 months prior, there they should have known boxhall would be available at 41, but not at 46.

major drafting and trading screw ups by wa teams all around.

People are really sleeping on Young here, he's a very good defender in my opinion.

He'll prove excellent value for 38.

That deal was fine, but please let’s not act like Brisbane didn’t win that deal, 4 concussions in 12 months for Starcevich including one a week before that deal that they kind of lied about.

They would’ve been over the moon to get what they did for him, Fremantle also achieved their goal in that deal and got McVee and still maintained a first, we made it significantly harder to trade further up the board for ourselves.

Some people just cant admit Matt Clarke is a terrible negotiator.

No amount of evidence is ever changing this it seems
Do you have a limitless supply of dummies mate, or do you go and collect it from the dirt every time it pops out?

In a year we'll be looking at 38 as a huge underpay, so I'm cool with it.

Pick 38 for a walk in CHB that also upgrades our current one?

It's more than reasonable.

Young for 38.

We hate it, Richmond hate it, so it must be about right.

Spot on - fair trades have both parties slightly disappointed.

FWIW I get the sentiment about paying with the slightly higher pick though. If it was a choice between 35 and 38 I'd still feel about the same, but would also say 35 is a fair price to pay. People just want a little win somewhere.

How did we make it harder?

We ended up with more points.

It's irrelevant now anyway, because it appears Melbourne will hold GC's top 10 picks, courtesy of Petracca.

Points won't matter in that instance.

So Ginbey released from backline?

or brock/hedwards replacement?
Swap for Brock.
Brock can develop his game in the beagles and wait his time.
Chances are H Edwards or Young might miss some games so he will get his chance.
Or we may face a team with 3 or 4 tall forwards and we may play all 3.

At least Young and Brock are very mobile, so it wouldn't be like playing 3 tall plodders.

We need quality players to start being competitive.

We know it.
They know it.

If we are paying overs it's because we are desperate for these players.

38 is slightly over but who give a shit.

We can't keep playing 18 year Olds for a number of reasons and 1 of them is our win loss record and the other is it is potentially wrecking their bodies like it did with Oscar Allen.

So we have to suck it up and be happy we've got young and starcevich.
Robertson is free to make you bed wetter feel a little bit happier with the difference between pick 38 and 41.

Just pretend he is part of the trade and you will sleep easier tonight.

Will also note that pick 38 is the R2 pick we received from Hawthorn for Barrass

So one year on we’ve replaced TB with Young and still have the R1 pick, which we’ve moved up 4 spots, to use
