It’s the same attitude that won’t get us pick 8 off GC despite being 1000+ points better off than any other offer, purely on not bidding on their players.

Pick 38 instead of 41 isn’t a big deal but we use the same tactics in deals that could actually make a difference.

This makes it seem like okay trading, but it rings extremely hollow when you reflect that North traded pick 27 last year for their future first this year. If we kept last years pick we could have had murphy Reid, or pick 3 this year.

We would have been much better off not trading out of the 2024 draft.
We could've picked Murphy Reid anyway, we skipped on him for Allan.

For the 100th time, we can't get pick 8 off GC because that's going to Melbourne for Petracca...

You mean like Brisbane about to delist Dev so we can add him to the rookie list for free and therefore not use a main list spot on?

Also means another club can't take him in a draft.

That sort of give and take good will?
I’m curious, do you actually think Deven Robertson is worth anything, lol? He has been sitting in the VFL for the last 2 years and was a fringe AFL player his entire career.

Brisbane were always going to delist him or trade him for a 4th rounder at best.

Ok. Quote anyone who has said "we have done awesome in every deal".

No-one has posted that. Except you just did.

So you make up a silly statement that you claim others have said.....stand back and then say "that's ridiculous".

When no-one actually said that.

It's like listening to Trump dribble on how he see's the world.....pure fantasy.
Then how come any time someone criticises a deal, they get attacked, lol? Feels like this fan base just goes along with every single thing the club does even when before hand they were strongly against those things.

Its a case of being in the power position and still finding a way to lose that annoys me the most. Both Starcevich/Young overpays have cost us the chance of moving that Hawk 1st rounder into the top 10 when its all said and done
And how were we going to do that ? Wave our magic wand .

Will the Dees Mae a bid for pick 2 and CDT.?

Obvious Gawn replacement.

2 plus Eagles F2nd for 7, 8 plus Dees F1st?

7 and 8 will end up 11 and 13. Which isn't terrible for pick 2 but feel we should extract better value.

Still see Rosa and Essendon come hard for pick 2 with 5 and 6. We may need to add something.

I'm working under the assumption that after 1,2 and 13 we'll be using the rest of our picks for Father/Son and Academy bids so whether it was pick 38 or 41 isn't really the end of the world for me. People on Twitter are acting like we traded pick 13.

Probably got one more deal in us if Essendon wanna trade their first two picks for pick 2. If not, I'm comfortable with taking 1, 2 and 13 to the draft.

Any competent list manager would’ve got the Young deal done for a pick in the 50’s or at least 41, people will say it’s not worth sooking over but can you imagine when we’re involved in a bigger deal?

We have no idea how to exploit leverage and people really think we’ll bid on kids at 1 and 2, lol.

Forever the nice guys but that good will is never returned to us.
Richmond wanted 34/38 for their father and son as that will almost guarantee they get him.
i don't think 3 picks is worth worrying about.
the absolute melts about some of this year trades is incredible.
The Chesser trade for 41 is what you should have expected. He only played 4 decent games at the end of the year and not a full season. If Mcvee gets 23 than Chesser at 41 is right.
If Melbourne gets 7 and 8 then 38 isn't a loss.

Because a fair deal isn't awesome but it isn't as terrible like you and others are crying about.

Quit using silly statements that no-one has ever said. That would be a good start.

Does it matter? Why spend 3 days haggling over a 3 pick difference when you can just use a pick you're never going to use anyway, have the player & manager happy that it got sorted easily and move onto whatever's next?
Maybe you're right and that's the way we like to do business. And yes theoretically keeping players and their managers happy makes sense.

Unfortunately though what we are doing has not been working recently. We have 3 bottom four finishes in the past three years and we are arguable the worst team in history.

Maybe the attitude of 'do the little things really matter' has crept in across too much of our operations? At the end of the day we'll never know as fans but all we can do from the outside is look at what we are doing, seeing the outcomes and draw conclusions.

I think that's a bit of a strange take re not winning trade week not being the job. Obviously, but equally obviously the outcomes of trade week will impact on how well we improve our side or not. You could also apply your logic to the draft as well, our job is not to draft good players but rather to improve the side.

Overall I agree it's only 3 picks and we may not need that pick. But the obvious counter argument is that it's also only 3 picks from Richmond's perspective as well, so why are we the ones (seemingly always) the one to compromise?
There is always two parties to every trade. Richmond wanted more we wanted to give less. We landed in the middle.

Not worth stressing over really

True but I certainly wanted more than 41 for Campbell Chesser and I sincerely hope the club did as well. Yes tylar has shown a bit more than Chess but he's also 4-5 years older. The fact that Richmond wanted 34 shouldn't be the benchmark price of a fair deal.
Even in a piss poor team like Carlton Chesser will spend most of his time in the VFL.

Not worth melting over a pick like 38, but man, I feel like we are just such push overs at the trade table.

Only because we aren’t using our bargaining position. Petracca isn’t worth 7+8 so they’ll get their required points off Melbourne instead of us
Or maybe they're simply prepared to let Patterson go, hence his comments from last week?

GC don't really need to keep stockpiling young talent, they need A-graders now, which appears to be the decision they are making.

That would be an amazing deal for us, don’t think it happens. I see a 2,13 for 7,8,F2 swap being ticked off…

What were you thinking we would get for Campbell Chesser?

Campbell Chesser as he stands right now - uncontracted wantaway, injury plagued, good games countable on 1 hand Campbell Chesser - not All Australian Wingmen who leads Carlton back to the promise land Campbell Chesser.

Some of you need to stay on Facebook and scream into the nuffie void.
I agree, with you, what we got is fair. I'd just argue exactly what you have when referencing Tylar Young. He's also been injured is 27 and has not set the world on fire and I'd think chess for him was fair (i.e., 41)
