Im the opposite. Would have done the trade last year, but now prefer having Smillie and Trainor.

Good list but outside Byrne and Burton wouldn’t say it’s a fast list.

I think my dreams about Robey are less fanciful than this.
Thats the only way i see us giving up 3.
If a f1 is involved.

Yeah agree with that. But I don’t see Essendon giving up an f1. Between norfs massive mistake forefront of every list managers mind and Dougie being the clear no.1 this year I just can’t fathom a world where a bottom 6-8 team is risking giving away their pick next year.

I’ll melt harder than overlooking Robey if we traded our F1 unless it’s for Dusty/GAJ or gives us 6 top 10 picks this year. I’d imagine wce/bimbers/norf/dees etc would be similar

Difference being Norf were hoping to get up the ladder and make it 27+23 for 8-12.

Bombers know they have 5&6 and it’s well and truly overpay for 3. You have to be so certain that pick 3 is going to be a super duper star to offer up that trade for unproven talent. It’s a pipe dream.
Based on history it's not that ridiculous....keeping in mind it would be 3 & F2 for 5&6.

But let's look at just 3 v 5/6:

Mastein v Grant & Myers (3 wins)
S Hill v Hurley & Yarran (close call)
Dusty v Cunnington & Rohan (3 wins)
Day v Polec & Conca (5/6 wins)
Tyson v Buntine & Wingard (5/6 wins)
Plowman v Stringer & Macrae (5/6 wins)
Billings v Koladjashnji & Scharanberg (3 wins)....a could've been Bont at 3....
A Brayshaw v DeGoey & Marchbank (3 wins)
C Mills v Parish & Francis (close call)
McLuggage v Setterfield & SPS (3 wins)
Dow v Cerra & Stephenson (5/6 wins)
Rankine v Rozee & B King (5/6 wins)
Jackson v Stephens & McAsey (3 wins)
Phillips v Campbell & Grainger Barrass (5/6 wins)
Callaghan v Andrew & Rachelle (close call)
Sheezel v Tsatas & Humphrey (close call)
Walter v Watson & Sanders (early days but 5/6 wins)

So not even taking into account the F2 selection, from 17 x seasons with some data it's :

Pick-3: 6
Pick 5-6: 7
A tie: 4

So you could easily argue the 4 x 'close calls' go to pick-3 as that pick has the F2 attached.

Point is....if you are adamant there is a clear top-3 or top-4, trading 5-6 for pick-3 and F2 isn't as silly as it seems at all.

Well it depends on the Bombers.
If they lose Merrett they may need a new hero.
Will they have the nerve too hold on for 12mnths?

I love XT but he’s not a swingman and hasn’t really shown midfield chops and nothing as a forward.

He’s basically a better faster broad who might become a midfielder.

I’m still happy with him at 4, but only if it’s paired with Robey as he was clearly Ranges best prospect and outplayed XT in the majority of ranges game 2nd half of year.
All due respect to Broady but XTaylor is a brilliant user of the footy and his ceiling is probably Siciliy in terms of the way he controls the game from back half.

Grlj tended to fade out of games in the CTL, when playing midfield.

A few of us thought it was an endurance thing, are we concerned now we know he’s definitely fit enough to run out games?

A good comp. for where CDT could get is Corey Mckernan at his best.

Really would be a bummer to pick Taylor at 3 or 4. Feel like if we are going vanilla, high floor, I’d rather sharp
Last time I can recall our recruiting team, specifically FJ, going “vanilla”, we selected ………….Nick Vlastuin. I’d be pretty happy if we got that outcome again by going vanilla

X.Taylor is also a fair way off vanilla.
191cm ultra-versatile intercepting back that can take talls or smalls. Has all the hallmarks of the type that AFL coaches salivate over having the athletic and skill profile of being able to play anywhere on the ground. Ala James Sicily, Tom Stewart
This kid is also a dog competitor.

But if there is a clear top 3 or 4 why would you trade down???

it takes two to tango… just like with Dusty or Harley or BSmith or Callaghan or JHF… when the big offer comes in the team usually just takes the player at their pick, because the offer only comes for those types of players.

You basically need wildly different opinions from 2 clubs on the drafts top
3-4 players for this to come off and that rarely happens. Sure at 10+ it happens but top 3-4, no. The only precedents include WCE ****ing up their trade collateral for baker, gc/gws points plays or because they have a million picks thanks to their ability to trade out former first round picks for more first round picks (and gws also desperately needed a KPF after spending 10 years drafting mids in 1st round).

XT is not a brilliant user. He’s a very safe kick, nowhere near a Sicily

You’re making out like being a safe user of the footy is a negative. It’s actually a skill.

Did I say it was bad? No you made an assumption. I said he isn’t a brilliant user, especially anywhere near Sicily, which is specifically in reference to your statement he is a brilliant user.

He won’t be taking kick outs regularly or sending 50m kicks over zones to hit a target regularly. He’ll definitely break lines and shift zones with his run and carry and ability to get up the ground as part of a wave. I’ve been talking up XT basically since champs.

Post on why CDT is a good pick by PMBangers from the draft board.
Basically, CDT has an a great base to grow from and would improve dramatically in the FAL environment.
I'm not a huge fan, but he has amazing upside. If he is there at pick 3 I wouldn't be surprised if we went for him.

Bud, read it again and take your knickers off the outside of your pants.
Said XT controls the game in the back half like Siciliy. Ball use is only one part of that equation.
Out of interest did you watch Sicily at under 18 level?

Okay, you’ve now moved the goal posts a second time.

First brilliant ball user means safe, now it’s we’re talking about controls back half, which wasn’t the point I disagreed with so is meaningless.

He is not a brilliant user of the footy.

Agree to disagree captain underpants.
I guess I’ll take it as a no that you never watched Sicily as an under 18.
