Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

The standards will be so much better
Love the optimism but there's equal chance this is not going to happen imo. Voss oversaw the culture and standards. It comes from the top. A list of 40 odd guys will ALWAYS have some not as commited/ bad eggs etc and it takes the strong leadership to keep culture 'good'.

Didn't happen in the last 4 years and we've blamed the players - rightly - moved them on but why won't it just happen again?

Florent is an upgrade on Acres.

Hayward takes Charlies spot.

10 and 11 for Humphrey would be awesome but I doubt GC let him go.

Assuming Elijah is gone also..

Evans Hayward Ainsworth
Kemp Mckay Williams

Motlop on the pine.

Not a bad setup.

Sorry to intrude on your board but the thing I can't get over in the reporting is the suggestion that if Hayward and Florent are in the deal then the swans will clear $1.2m in salary cap space (which reading between the lines it sounds like is required for them to fit Charlie in).

Why would Carlton have to pay most of that money if the draft pick return is just two first round picks? If the swans want/need to clear the cap space, then they should be giving you additional draft capital 🤷‍♂️ Otherwise they should be paying a substantial amount.

I am on board with the deal…if it’s someone other than Florent.

Florent really doesn’t do much for us in my opinion. Would rather someone more useful.
Florent is a positive onfield but his cost in cap space vs onfield performance isn't a good ratio. Would be much more palatable if it was 150k less per year.

Charlie and his team have been looking for a trade since start of the year

His attitude and efforts this year were poor.

Only a month ago he said he wasn’t going anywhere and is now in Sydney viewing facilities

As far as I’m concerned this has to happen and will and I say good riddance. If youre not committed I don’t want you no matter how talented you are
Hard work wins over talent who doesn't apply themselves.

We've had a few guys over the years that have talent galore, but never applied themselves.

The guys we've gotten in might not be the most talented guys out there, but geez they give it 100%. And if we get Hayward and Humphrey out of Charlie, we win massively. Especially with Cody, who is talented as ****, but works his ****ing arse off, coming next year.

We need guys who are hungry for success... not guys who think it's going to fall in their laps if they sit around long enough.

Is everyone on board? Are we sure? Cos it feels like Docherty, TDK, SOS, and Charlie weren't.

Is Walsh in board? He is a FA next year - is he happy to play out the next few years of his career on a rebuilding team? I wonder whether Cripps and Doc and Kennedy and all the other blokes he has played with agree... What advice they'll give, particularly if Cur ow plays in a top 4 team, and the Saints and Bulldogs have good years and...

What about Voss? If we gut the list and win 8 games, he has to keep his job, right? It cannot be fair to have the off-season we are in then sack the coach, right? So we are locking in Voss for what, four more years?

I dunno, it seems very risky to me. Things can change quickly, sure, but it strikes me as being more likely that they change quickly if you have Charlie Curnow on your team.

It just seems to make SO much more sense to refuse all trade offers unless they are overwhelming, roll it back one more time, and see what happens.

12 months from now we can be a bit more certain about the coach, about Walsh, about a bunch of other injured players (Kemp, O'Farrell, Smith, Newman, all coming off serious injuries). Next year is a stronger draft and we have great position there already with Walker so it is a much better draft to negotiate into. Who knows where Geelong and Sydney sit and where their players are at.

Again, we don't have to trade Curnow and a deal that gets us two C grade players and no picks in the top 10 of the draft just seems completely underhwleming

I’ll pose this question to you: if Charlie puts in another year of 20% effort, is then the wrong side of 30, or heaven forbid cops another serious injury, therefore intentionally or otherwise tanking his value - what do you think we could get for him on the market?

The likelihood is if he’s not traded, you’re going to get the Charlie of 2025, and not the Coleman medalist - this is the risk you’re taking.

Two firsts, Hayward and Florent is fine. Florent a bit meh but Hayward a great get in a position of need. Next years helps us get Walker. Plus, there may be a benefit in ridding ourselves of someone who doesn’t want to be there.

More interested in what we’ll do with picks 9,10 and 19….
psst... it's 10, 11, and 22.

A long ways to go on the Charlie Curnow discourse, Geelong’s last pitch will come tomorrow and possibile another lunge if we haven’t completed by Tuesday evening , this deal will go to the wire , the fun and games are in full swing. Baggers will take the deal and run, we’ll do very well indeed.
This trade period with transformer our side to a more effective and evenly balanced one. Confident we’ll do much better in 2026 the momentum is building.

Hayward is not a C grade player. Wtf.

Guys, girls lemme remind you of some names: Everitt, Tutt, Jarrod Garlett, Sumner, Kerridge, Lamb, Polson, Gibbons, Lang

These have been a majority of our half forwards for nearly a decade. Please stop it. Hayward is welcomed with open arms with some of the horror I’ve witnessed, rapt in fact if he’s coming our way

I think Florent is the issue not hayward

None of them are on board hence them exiting the club.

That’s the main issue with keeping Charlie. If he is checked out and we’re going to do this again in 12 months time we’re just delaying the inevitable, if he has another average year or worse gets injured we go in with less leverage. Hes not going to go off the planet like Oliver but he’s not exactly a professional like Petracca. There’s risk in keeping him, I’m not confident he’d get back to his best if we held him against his will and by the looks of things Wright agrees, otherwise it would be a hard no. He has dealt with big personalities and big trades before.

Remember we aren’t trading the Charlie that kicked 80 goals and won a Coleman, we’re trading the Charlie that just half assed 30 goals and has the potential to disrupt another season. We won’t get a better offer next year, yes it’s underwhelming but it’s mostly fair. Hayward is a very good player in a position of need and Florent improves us. Use the picks right and pump games into them, like I said things can change quick.

Does he have 3 or 4 surgeries in this year too?

I'm keeping him and giving him a Mulligan.

This deal we cop two crap long contracts and a couple of picks. We'll get Harry Dean regardless and we will find a way to get Cody too. Short memories, Charlie is a gun.

Can someone tell me how gold coast expect to get Patracca and still have points for 2 top 5 picks academy players Ulward and Patterson
Without getting more picks in
I still can't believe they are getting 2 top 10 picks for 29 year old Trac, even with something going back. What might have been if gc had gone for Charlie 😢. Although we seem to be the only club that doesn't make out like bandits trading with the goldcoast.
