I’ve already given explanations of the other teams but if you’d like a rehash.

Bris - no explanation needed - added players in require positions - bunch of kids to improve
GC - look like adding Petracca, bunch of kids to improve
Ade - Discussed
Freo - Discussed + better run with injury
GWS - Add Oliver - Have kids in key positions with lots of improvement + better run with injury
Syd - Add Curnow, kinder run with injury
WB - Kinder run with injury
Geel - Add Marshall (if not they’re a chance to regress imo)
Coll - Likely regress
Hawks - should be about the same; outside chance they have a fit day and Lewis which would greatly improve their chances but they had a relatively good run with injury (compared to WB/Syd/Freo/GWS)

Port/Saints - Dark horses for the 8?

Should hopefully be a very competitive season for the top 8, with the top 4 being my only real locks barring something disastrous.

If the Hawks were to obtain Merrett I’d move them to a lock but with Days injury concerns their midfield appears to fragile for me to put them there at this stage.

Let's be honest - It's almost impossible to predict. There was a paper thin gap between most of the top 9 all season, resulting in the closest final 8 ever. You could make a case for improvement or regression of any of those, without even counting the fact that our game fluctuates from season to season more than most (meaning there will be big risers and big fallers next season).

From a Hawthorn perspective, I'm just glad the club are not just expecting it to happen with 'natural improvement'. They've said multiple times we have to get better and that even if we get Merrett, we will be a 'little bit closer'. It's the right approach and how much you seek to improve is all you can control - rather than worrying too much about what your competitors are doing.

I know that we hold to the idea that there's no "tenure", but incumbency still holds. Nobody is walking around Brisbane treating next year's captaincy as an open contest

as I've said several times now - it will be Zach's choice not to remain as captain. I would be staggered if he wanted to keep the gig after this, assuming he stays

As much as Essendon are insufferable, this is pretty poor from the Hawks.

They have form. Trying to white ant the club/player relationship to get them on the cheap and then when they realise they might have to pony up they hide in the corner. Gutless organisation.
