As I've posted before, saying a player is better than Mead is setting a very low bar.

I agree that Mead should never be picked in our AFL side again.
Low bar, realistic?
He hasn’t been good enough to break into a Fremantle side in two years so that tells you something.
In saying that he gets a lot of ball playing in the WAFL.
I’ve seen him a lot especially in 2024 year when they (Peel) won the flag.
I’d say he’s an upgrade on Mead mainly because he has some body strength and a better kick.
Im pretty sure he’ll do well for the Magpies.
Worst scenario is he’s another Mead, good at local level but not up to AFL standard.

Best he gets a new start and steps up with more opportunities and becomes a real good depth player that can come in and do a job.
Anything much outside of that you’re entering the dream world.

I dont think I have seen a player traded for a pick in the 100's before. Exciting times!

Just glad that they are doing the right thing by a guy who has done nothing wrong and been a great team player.

Wish him nothing but the best.

Rhys Palmer went from GWS to Carlton for pick 135. Still an overpay.

By all accounts a great bloke, very popular with his team mates and a good clubman. He’s not much chop as a player these days, but if he can regain some of his 2022 form he’ll be a solid pickup, at the very least as depth. Carr obviously rates him, so here’s hoping he can get back to his best.

With Ollie out to start the season, he'll get a chance for an audition. Up to him to do enough with that audition to hold his spot when Wines comes back. He'd probably have to displace Drew, I don't think we can play all three of them.

Just realised he is a former team mate of Todd Marshall, they were both drafted from Murray Bushrangers in the 2016 ND.

If someone has already posted this, I did not see your post ;)
I said it in another thread a few weeks ago, but all these blokes are from the 2016 draft age. A fair few of them on our list.

Will Brodie, Todd Marshall, Sam Powell-Pepper, Willem Drew, Esava Ratugolea, Brandon Zerk-Thatcher, Jordon Sweet, Jacob Wehr.

We’ll know early in 2026 whether Brodie is a complete bust. If he is fit and trains well over the preseason, he’ll be a strong chance to feature in practice games and then rounds 1-2. If he’s not up to it then, it will be very apparent to us.

It's such a weird situation with him at Freo. Looked as if he finally unlocked his talent in his first year there, and then fell off the face of the earth for 3 seasons.

Seemingly hasn't had any injury issues and no off field stuff has come up so you presume he fell out of favour due to defensive issues or failure to follow team standards. But if that's the case and his papers were marked by Freo then you'd have expected him to be traded at end of season 2023, not spending another 2 seasons moping around the WAFL.

He's still nominally in his prime so happy to give him a go when there's a contested mid sized hole in the list. But lots of question marks as to how a highly junior has ended up on the scrap heap of 2 clubs already- maybe he just doesn't give enough of a shit and is happy to coast.

Settle in, kick your feet up and enjoy the best of Will Brodie's handballs in their Rd 8 game vs North Melbourne

None at a players feet is a plus.

Stats wise Brodie's 2022 looks great. Consistent, lots of tackles and clearances.

But even his 5 games he played in 2023 look pretty good too, his last two games he had 26 and 24 possessions and then must've been dropped and never donned the purple again.

Is there some other issues we haven't been told about?

The only thing i can see from a stats point of view that stood out is he handballs a lot but he it's a similar kick to handball ratio as Ollie Wines.

He’s always looked above WAFL standard to me, had 41 touches in a game late last year.
Fremantle do have a pretty set midfield so it wouldn’t be that easy to break into but two years with zero games tells you something is missing big time.
The numbers normally don’t lie, pick 103.

Getting a depth mid for nothing in a position that needs it is a win. Also the motivation factor for a player who hasn't been able to crack the 22 for a while is an underrated aspect in trades like this. It's a free hit.

Having someone to put pressure on Drew to perform will be extremely handy too.
Exactly what we saw with Visentini/Sweet - Sweet underperformed, was dropped and built his form back up to elite.
Hopefully we see that with Drew if he continues with his average form.
