I applaud them on being aggressive with recruitment but geez if you want to recruit the captain of historically your biggest rival you need to come up with a much better offer than that.

I watched Barrass play bloody well this year, we made a prelim and we have carltons first 2 picks instead of our own.

Yeah but you could have Barrass and M.Reid. Pretty bad fumble.

Noting this all came from a hawks fan saying we fumbled the Barrass trade as we could have had M.Reid.

My point being you can’t say a trade was fumbled just because the player that was taken at said pick has shown very good signs in their first year.

No draft period or picks are the same unfortunately as much as BF fans cant admit this...

As much as it hurts peoples feelings draft picks have lost currency and value as the talent pool has got thinner and acadamies has ruined the draft process.

I think 2025 is a special time. I dont think draft picks have ever held less value

It’s an ok offer. People saying it’s massive overs are kidding themselves but it’s not terrible.

Merrett is a superstar who is quite fairly expected to have 5-6 strong years left. To some people he’s just “he’s 30, get rid of him, get what you can!”

It's a gamble, the vast majority of players past the age of 32 (bar a few exceptions) don't really perform at a high level anymore, because of the wear and tear they have sustained over a decade of playing footy. Merrett could be one few that stills perform close to their best past that age, but the odds are against any player that continues to play footy once they're over 32/33.

No. They've reportedly offered pick 7 and 8 for Petracca and 24. That's the exact equivalent of pick 9 and our F1 (assuming we finish 4th next year).

We've added a good 2nd rounder and a player on top.

That's without mentioning that Petracca is a proven big game/finals performer and Gold Coast are an anomaly with the picks they can and do offer (pick 2 for Weller, pick 7 to TAKE Bowes, etc). And we are still comfortably offering more.

The deal is fair for a 30 year old receiver. It’s probably over to be honest.

But it’s clear that hawthorn are panicking and Mitchell is pushing the club to get the deal done after making promises to Merrett.

Hawks fans have praised Mitchell’s ruthless approach, but seem to hate Essendons ruthless approach in this trade.

Replace HH with Lewis and it’s getting closer.
