Most definitely overs. But honestly I'm okay with losing Hayward and Florent.

Just very average players who fill roles adequately.

I thought we would be looking at getting another club involved. Since the deal has already been offered, or hasn’t if you’re Mitch Cleary, I received this from a mate ITK at Hawks. This was Friday,

This morning, I alluded that something may be going down at the club. Everything relies on Jai Serong's trade to go through or more specifically not go through, it didn't happen and because someone from another group beat me to the punch, I'm gloing to spill the beans now.

We do a lot on twitter for supercoach, have built up quite a few contacts and on Thursday night we received a private message that let us know of a potential trade being worked on to get Merrett.
As we know, Hawthorn is trading Jai Serong to Swans, so why hasn't it gone through, it's pretty straight forward, right. Well, the club is trying to get pick 11 out of Swans by giving them our F1, pick 31 this year plus Serong. Pick 18 and 31 are equivalent to pick 11. Hence the reason the Serong deal hasn’t been finalised with Sydney.
Then we give pick 9 and 11 to Essendon for Merrett. I'm told 3 Essendon panel members have agreed that two picks inside top 12 would be enough. But perhaps the inclusion of a player may also be required and wouldn't give anyone except Hustwaite who they are interested in. They have been monitoring his progress, even watching him play for Box Hill.

The sticking point at the moment is Swans want Curnow and have put pick 11 and probably Rowbottom up as a trade option as a starting point.
Swans don't need pick 11 as they have a a/p Max King who could go anywhere from 15-25 or so, but similarly Carlton don't need pick 11 either having already received pick 10 as compensation for TDK and have f/s Harry Dean who possibly goes in the top 10.
Also, Carlton have another f/s for 2026 in Cody Walker who will be a top 5 in the draft, so I imagine they would prefer extra picks for next year which is a stronger draft.
Now. here's the kicker for Swans, they could give Carlton our F1, their own F1, plus Rowbottom in a trade for Curnow, it would at least be a good starting point.
Whilst, I'm not brave enough to say it's a done deal, the person from the other group did.
Seemed plausible, obviously Rowy won’t be involved.

So Merrett Curnow and Serong to us. Florent and Wilbur out and picks fly everywhere. Or am I reading this wrong

I think the more mild concerning reports that we have cap issues fitting Curnow in while mitigating Hayward/Florent.

This despite the cap increasing this season goes to show how costly handing out 5yr deals is.

The club has realistically said that they are willing to pay Florent + Hayward + 11 to upgrade McLean to Curnow and "downgrade" Hayward to Dattoli/King.

I think that it will be a huge upgrade as it could be adding legit 2 goals per game. Which even in the season we had last year with injuries gets us another 4 wins pretty sure it would mean we would finish 5th if we take the wins away from the clubs above us.

That is a huge jump let alone having a health squad

Look at it logically

Pick 9 - A first in a poor draft this year (where we are tight on spaces)
F26 - Ok this hurts a little, but you have to give up quality to get quality, obviously we are whipping it's a "late" selection next year
Florent - A player who was in and out of our team this year, on a contract that is a bit too big for his skillset.
Hayward - This hurts yes, but his never finished in the top 10 of our best and fairest, and Curnow strengthens us more than him.

You have to give up quality to bring in quality, on paper I actually think this trade is a win for us.
