Devils advocate. What are the option’s?
1. Keep him on the list, he returns to training and builds some value in the VFL (maybe even AFL), and still gets traded next year with his 900k off the books and potentially more value and options at the trade table. Downside is potential playing group / coach cohesion.

2. Keep him on the list, he doesn’t train, is a distraction and we waste 900k on someone not showing up.

3. We trade him now for pick 74 and remove that 900k that we either front load another contract with etc, we move the 50/50 risk off to a competitor and a contender and potentially make them stronger in the process.

4. Keep him on our list, he doesn’t show up and the Dogs chose to fight the AFL/AFLPA in attempting to rip up his contract.

I know what option I’d go with but as it stands that’s what we’ve got.
Wouldn't worry about Ugle-Hagan playing for a while. He is still well out of shape, hasn't actually played any competitive level of football for over 12 months and his health mental/physical is still a big question. There is still a long way to go and this was partly arranged by the AFL who got a favour out of the Suns to keep his career alive while helping us get his money off the books for 2026. If he wasn't an indigenous first overall pick he would be out of the AFL right now. This is literally his last chance.

At the end of the day re: Marra
It seems like he has lost the trust of the players & coaches. If he came back mid season & did everything he needed to do, this could’ve been a different story.
But from the outside looking in, we’ve been disappointed too many times & everyone has had enough.
Culturally it’s better to move him on for whatever we can get now so the club can focus on winning a premiership with everyone harmoniously on the same page.

The only possible options from the Bulldogs' perspective would be 1 or 3.

And 1 would require a complete about-face with clear committment, regaining of trust, and change in behaviour prior to the trade period, for the club to be sure that there is no chance of next year being a repeat of this year. Clearly that hasn't occurred, given the club weren't even aware of his participation in the recent carnival. So we're left with option 3.

That's such BS if true. I understand we are keen to move him on, and that he has lost a lot of value. But to get a pick that has no points value to package up, and one that we will not use (I think we will only take two picks this draft). We will be very much giving him away for free, after spending all that draft capital to get him in the first place. Would like to see us get SOMETHING of value back, even if its just a third round pick or a pick upgrade.
We would have paid him out and gotten no picks anyway.
This saves us cap space.

It sucks but it's the reality of the Jamarra situation.

Why are people here wishing Jamarra well? We're not a charity. He's screwed over our club and yet again with this 'deal' we are being screwed over.

The only feeling I have is anger. This is a number 1 draft pick who was a major contributor to us losing a cutthroat final, took 900k of our money for no return and has resulted in us getting two fifths of bugger all.

No sympathy, no goodwill, nothing.

As for the AFL, thanks for screwing us over again.

feel like we make a late play for Steven May with the JUH pick.

I hope the best for him. My want for young people to have a happy life means more to me than my football club.

I agree... this is a massive thing and the club needs to come out publicly and give reasons to its supporters

Its sad that option 3 is the only viable card that the club had to play.

As big a Pollyanna as I have been when it comes to Jamarra. And Ive ben a big one. I honestly don't see a scenario where a guy who has used the passing of 12 people from his community as a crutch for his inability to get his mental health issues under control. Is going to be able to revive his once promising career away from the support structures that he's said are integral to his well being and return to the game.

Unless of course those ties were just cover for deeper issues. Issues that made option 3 the only course of action that the club could take.

The deal that Gold Coast are offering tells us all we need to know. They are pretty much see it as a low risk/high reward free hit. If it goes pear shaped as I expect it might then, they'll just jettison him over the side and walk away.

He's pissed it all away.

Steven May is staying at Melbourne

I get it on a personal level, but I'm not going to be cheering him on at the Suns.
That's totally fine mate, everyone has the right to feel how they wish. I hope he gets himself right, and if he does that he will likely play good football, they go hand in hand. I think the media have been pretty good by the club, nobody outside of Barrett has really said anything negatively about the club's handling of Jamarra and I'd expect that'll continue.

I understand being frustrated at the situation overall, but I just hope people aren't actively hoping against him getting himself right because of what it means for a football team, that's just inhumane (not suggesting you are, fwiw).

I hope he gets his life in order, but the combination of factors at play here that will see us not fairly compensated yet again is what makes me angry the most.

With all the sweetheart deals that have flown around over the past decade, it's infuriating that we again have to just cop it.

yes, I'm sorry for his so called mental health battles but I can't help but think he has acted like a spoiled little brat through all this. Totally, screwed the club, team mates and members over. His actions have been disgusting. His redemption story can go "F" itself as far as I'm concerned.

The dog are today talking to the Swans about getting involved in the Curnow deal. I'm not sure if its purely picks for a Khamis deal or if it is to include someone like Florent.

Far more likely than not it’s about our interest in upgrading to pick 22. But it would be nice if we somehow turned Buku into Florent. He’s a good sized and speedy utility. Would help with our issues covering the ground defensively.

Im personally not a fan of Florent but other then a pick swap he seems like the only one it could involve.

Florent on a wing I wouldn't hate Florent in the back 6 I would soft as butter
If we can't bring in a key defender I'd imagine Williams spends alot more time in defence next year. Could potentially need to cover both wings depending on where Davidson plays.
