Ok, how's this for an analogy: You're trying to forcefully buy something another party has no intention of selling.

A 'fair' offer won't cut the mustard.

Can agree to that - which is why we've offered overs and about twice as much as any 30 year old mid has ever been traded for previously

I know many will disagree but does anyone else just find Merrett to be a reasonably unimpressive player? I mean he is certainly a good player, but I have never thought of his name when I am thinking of the top 20 players in the league at any given time. He very much feels like a 21 to 50 player in the league to me.

Firm disagree, hate plonking all the positions in one as there are KPF, and KPD's but he's easily in the top 20, closer to top 10-15.

If that's the case Essendon would be at the table suggesting that as the counter. I feel you have been very rational on what you think is fair considering the circumstances but you might need to get your head around the fact that Walsh and Brad have too much skin in the game, Brad doesn't want to weaken the list even temporarily as he won't see out a rebuild like that. Walsh has put himself out there and can't/won't walk it back it's the stance that must have got him the job.

i don't think theres much to get my head around

Hawks want a contracted player, it seems Essendon also want a contracted player (Mckenzie)

Hawks cant have their cake and eat it too if that's what Essendon want in return.

Weirdly Tsatas would be one I'd take a half a punt on in our side. Wouldn't be asked to do anything other than get the pill to our outsides. He can't kick that's obvious but plonk him right inside and who knows.
He could "do a Watson", but it probably won't be next year.

You have different views of what overs are. Overs might be what Melb are getting for Trac.

People (and it's not a coincidence those people are often Hawthorn fans) are wasting their time trying to draw an analogy with Jordan Lewis or Oscar Allen - those are entirely different circumstances.

As bzparkes is stating, the selling party is extremely unwilling to sell. Cannot believe we are faulting a club for wanting to hold a player to a contract.

More talking that I still think there's something there, Hobbs just looks completely average as. Tsatas at least is able to find the ball that's half the thing about footy, Hobbs struggles with that. It's finding Tstatas best role and it certainly is not as an outside mid!

Oh, you want to make up your own reality? You do realise that the reason some players were pissed off at him was because he'd pulled them aside to talk about loyalty for the long term when they had offers from rivals in front of them, and now he's changed his mind on a dime after an exit meeting?
Would you want to play for Brad Scott?

Absolute potato of a coach.

Essendon are aware that if Mckenzie does agree to go, they will have to add in something in on top of Merrett yeah?

He was a pick 7, 3 years ago.
Jhye Clark was P8 and Dempsey a rookie pick who was overlooked the the national draft. What's your point?

Josh Jenkins doubling down on hawthorns tactics

Yep and the other party still says he isn't for sale.

Yep, which they've maintained all along - as is their right.

It doesn't make the offer "shitty" though, it just means they're not willing to sell under any circumstances, which in fairness to them, everyone at the club has said exactly that unequivocally every single time.

Rated a lot more highly because he’s been the only consistently good mid for Essendon. He’s been excellent on the outside but I don’t think he gets the same numbers in a better team.

No they were chasing MacKensie for starters, and you blokes want to get rid of Hustwaithe don't blame you, he's just Charlie Consable version 2.
If they want Mackenzie they need to get Mackenzie interested and get him to nominate Essendon.

Underrated because he’s never been able to do what he does in a final

Pick 7 and 8, minus pick 24?

In terms of points that's not too dissimular from pick 9 plus a F1 plus a second.

Do you think one of these offers is overs and one is unders?

It's 7 and 8 that's significantly better and it would be a deal Essendon SHOULD consider, but alas 9 and a f1 is not close really. There's just too big a gap and both clubs are just way too far apart on this. The Trac deal suits both parties, Melb want early picks they don't really need a pick in the 20's that much probably call it a day after the first round in reality. Essendon pretty similar they only want high picks, key word being high, you can put any player you want with the deal but they'd want two top 10 picks at a minimum, it's the second top 10 pick that's the issue, Hawthorn thinks their f1 is enough, Essendon don't. That's really where it is, and frankly where it will end, neither will come close to giving in there's too much a gap.

He was a pick 7, 3 years ago.

And Tsatas was Pick 5 three years ago. Means **** all to their trade value.

You'd be adding McKenzie because we need more value/worth. He is more value/worth.
One has been developing at Hawthorn.

One has been developing at Essendon.

Thus the disparity in value.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
