Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

It's a trade we didn't have to make

It's clearly not an overwhelmingly great deal and a trade we didn't need to make. It has gutted the team. Cannot afford to lose TDK, Silvagni & Curnow plus EJ, Gov, etc. Drafts picks will be late teens at best in a compromised draft. And then 3-5yrs development ... at risk of another DOW, SPS.. and ACL's.
I think Melbourne are a very good and very recent example of why we needed to.

When G.W. started with us, he was already very well aware of our list imbalance. To have five players on one mill plus, then everyone else on

much less. This is far from ideal. He never panicked when he heard that TDK was going to leave, for the aints. Then JSOS wanted out and he

let it unfold. Charlie was the most important piece, he knew that if they could get this trade right. Then it would be great for us. All in all, I

believe we are now in a much better place going forward. September action is now very much on the cards for next season imo.

For the first time since 2017, we have woken up to a Carlton Football Club that isn't at the mercy of Charlie Curnow's attitude or knee ligaments.
Charlie Curnow's attitude.................talked about only the past few months. He hasn't always had an attitude. One of the hardest trainers. Always at the top in time trials, never fat.

I think it was more about age and a big gulf between the younger players and the older. We needed more in that midrange age.

We will.

Saad is OOC and very likely won’t get a new contract given his age. Williams is also OOC, but might get a minimum coin contract for 2027. We’ve banked good money from the departures of Charlie, TDK and JSOS (Gov sounds like he might be coming back but probably for one more year).

Plenty of money to throw at King or Butters next year. I’d be throwing money at one of them.

Still think id rather Jed Walter. Dont think id like to pay up for another key forward after literally just getting rid of one. I guess it depends what sort of 2026 he has

Pick 11, 43 & 54 are enough to match a bid for Dean at 7 or after and about pick 49 away from being able to match him at 6

So the questions are
1) do we think Dean will last past the top 5
2) Are we going to Bid on Ison?
3) How do we get value out of pick 9 (or 11) given we are just needing points?
11 won’t be 11 when a bid comes. It will be pushed out to 14 and worth less points. We need to trade one before a bid and one back for points or we need to trade one to next year and one back for points.

Yeah. Claiming Hayward and Ainsworth are fringe. Montagna no doubt putting a Saints vs Blues spin on it.
Ainsworth does frequently go missing, he has his whole career. He was a fringe player at the Suns hence them allowing him to go despite signing a 4 yr deal. He does have potential for better, and I'd like to see him player inside 50 more than HFF, but he's not a big move as it is now.

Hayward can similarly go in and out of games. He actually reminds me of Charlie in that he cam have a dominant 15 minutes kicking 3 goals but be barely sighted outside of that. I think he's better than fringe tbf, hes a decent inclusion.

Gee that Curnow trade board thread is a disaster zone, filled with salty Geelong fans and a select handful of toxic Blues fans that are so negative you'd swear they were troll accounts

Best response from one of ours to a Handbagger poster

You know what I love about Geelong? The two exits in and out of your shithole town. Get the **** out of here

Fair enough. I would have preferred the two 1st's got on-traded for Humphrey or another player. It would appear that there simply wasnt time to do that seeing as with 15 minutes to the deal was likely not happening.

We can argue back and forth on Florent and his inclusion or not. The reality, after the trade period, we've added two best 23 players from the Swans and 1st's for Charlie and extras back to them.
I reckon the deal was done ages in advance. But the AFL told us and the swans to hold off until the last minute, and GC17 were so pissed off at the AFL stage managing that they left and the Humphrey deal fell through.

You know what would be a cool thing that the AFL could introduce for the National Draft, live trading an established player for the picks you need if you have an academy or f/s player. That would be the ideal way for us to get Humphrey and pick 15 for picks 9 and 11.

These two will change us beyond belief.

Hard men amongst quite a few boys...
I'm wondering if Charlie is suddenly getting buyers remorse after seeing all the depth we brought in this year. I honestly think that with the guys we've brought in this year, we've definitely improved on the guys we let go last year. We're not going to be the slowest team out there any more. We've filled the age gap in our list very nicely, and I can see a couple more coming in next year as well to really round us out.

He will be nowhere near the forward line i reckon

Down back for him but yes he is the swingman so could end up forward

You're right he will probably play in the backline given our lack of height and options there but he looks so much more dangerous when he plays forward. He needs to be able to attack the ball, leap and be an x-factor. When he's in defence he gets out-bodied too easily and lacks positional craft. Same goes with Kemp. They both can play back but are better forward IMO.

I don't think anyone would dispute his workrate and dedication as a trainer, must be up there with the best. It's more his workrate on the field at times...

Im not so sure about being stage managed

A lot of moving parts so no surprise how it comes all to a point - we wouldve had Buku done if the Charlie deal was already agreed but it wasnt and thats where all the time went

Humphrey was never a chance give the stance of GC, despite what may have been heard and reported elsewhere

Ultimately you have three parties that have a say (two clubs and the player/manager) that need to come to alignmnet

So yes, our ITK with some conenctions into wherever may hear only one side of what requires three parties to agree

Will be interesting - maybe he plays up forward until Kemp is fully back from his injury

Otherwise I rate Hayward, Aisnworth and Kemp well above him
