Worth giving him another 12 months. I thought he showed some good signs at the back end of the season.

I imagine our senior line up will have a combination of McStay/Buller/West or Membrey.

So our permanent VFL forwards will be Howes/McCarthy/Steene when resting down there. I think Howes will be good for McCarthy’s development as it would take pressure off him.

I'd keep him. Showed enough to warrant a year of elite level development systems and VFL games to see what he can do.

KPFs are a bit boom or bust so I'm of the belief that having at least a couple in development is wise.

Hit next year with Buller ready to fight for a senior start, West pressing, then Howes and McCarthy gently roasting in the oven.

Whether that means Coxy doesn't go again, I dunno - the club will have the best info on hand to make that judgement.

How many spots are available Jen?
atm. not withstanding that quartet. We would have 4 seniors and 3 rookies spare, thats before DFA and the draft. We'll need at least 2 or even 3 for the draft (out of the 4 available)

Future may depend on whether rumoured interest in Jacob blight has come to fruition for the DFA period in a fortnight

Yes Howes is a forward but was playing down back at times in vfl and apart from Cat B rookies… pies never been a team to have a lot of developing KPP on the books at once

If they land Blight then he surely goes above Howes in pecking order in defence as West and now Buller do up front and with academy kid McCarthy likely arriving too

So I’m thinking he probably gets cut

We'll know tomorrow either way, so wont have to wait until DFA

Guy feel tells me maybe only one gets a contract and it’s Sullivan or Howes.

Tough on Sully if he misses out.

Is everyone still confident re Smit making it on the AFL?

The new rules should favour him but is he good enough?

Feel like after our off season Mitchell and Cox are 100% gone

I would have thought there’d be many other teams that would benefit from having Cox and Mitchell more than us. (Solid citizens. Premiership experience)

And if there were other teams to offer them a contract (when Collingwood wouldn’t guarantee one) I would have thought they’d jump at it. Surely we would have supported any trade to a destination of their choice for half a packet of Smiths Salt and Vinegar crisps in return?

Unless the players took a “it’s Collingwood or nobody” approach? Possible but unlikely I would have thought?

To me it seems a bit of ‘Here’s two Premiership players who haven’t come to terms with their football mortality yet’. Kinda like Mick McGuane.

‘Let’s let them down slowly’.

Yeah, Leggy was same category, but he’d been delisted before.

Who is Essendons main ruckman for next season?

Staggered they have not snapped Mason Cox up.

Cox was considered good enough to play in a Prelim. These "don't win much now a days clubs" should be all over him.

Nick Bryan will be their first ruck

i thought he was showing promise as a key back late in the year before getting injured, big preseason ahead of him.
would like to see us continue with him down back, need to find a tall backman that can play on the big power forwards. very athletic for his size, decent long kick as well. just a tad erratic when ball in hand but that will improve with more game time

Coming off an achilles isn't he? I think they'll play Visentini for the first half of the season
Bryan ruptured his ACL - Draper was the one who ruptured his achilles. From memory happened within weeks of each other.

I like Visentini and think he will play a fair bit, but Bryan is a bit more mature physically
