Starc and Healy is a starting point I guess.....not many players on the circuit can bowl 145+ and score 100's at a run a ball.....

Knowing the Aust men's luck, any said match ups, will probably result in all girls being born....thus lengthening Aust women dynasty even more.

Not knocking his ability or record of late....just interesting to see so far in this fledgling 2025/26 season O'Neill has delivered with bat n ball, just not at the same time....definitely can swing a bat....and obviously as we know can bowl a ball.

Too cool ATM to get the wickets to break down properly. Unfortunately when the actual summer hits and the wickets can bake and break down it's BBL season

Straker has the jump on Anderson not only because he is staying injury free but for having the luck of being chosen in first class cricket well ahead of Anderson who has only now finally been handed a rookie contract, due to our visionless selectors. Probably the main reason Straker rejected them and looked interstate to follow a career.

WA quick is Albert Esterhuysen - on a rookie contract. he is 19.

I hope you are right about Anderson and he becomes a great seamer. He has done well in NSW premier cricket - lets hope he can take that wicket taking form into the first class arena. In saying that, I hope all of these new young guys do well.

From what I heard Straker didnt reject NSW. I was told he wasnt offered anything as they preferred your man Anderson who got a rookie contract for the 24/25 season. This is his second year on the books at NSW. So maybe they aren't as visionless as you think as they did sign him last year and were happy to let Straker go. They may have regretted it a little when Straker ran through their top order in the NSW v QLD Shield game last season?

QLD also have a very good young quick in Tom Whitney - he is a wicket taker and is fast albeit is a bit inconsistent. However perhaps he is just "lucky" he doesnt play at NSW. There was another young quick make his debut for Victoria in the most recent one day cup game - Austin Anelzark. He bowled well...swung the ball at a lively speed. There is also Jack Nisbet from NSW - very tall seamer.

Good signs for 5 years down the track when this bunch of 20 year olds and early 20's guys have matured and had some experience.

Yet it still looks like there might be a result. Even AB last week that got slammed as an absolute road was only 3 wickets producing a win after 4 days. Rather see close draws over 4 days than games been over in 2.5 days on decks that bowlers don't even need to work for wickets on. Pitches like that don't benefit anyone.

Usman gave some pretty good insight on what batting is like in the shield compared to when he first started out in this episode of the grade cricketer. Skip to the 11 minute mark or so

Bewildering that they currently open with Nikitaras and have Gilkes batting 4 whilst giving him away​
 
Starting to have questions over Goodwin from WA I thought two years ago he was going to replace Smith at 4 now he is just holding a place in the state team.

Makes too many starts looks good and throws it away consistently ....yesterday prime example batting beautifully for 48 ..then throws his wicket away driving on the up caught in the cordon

He's still behind Hearne and Clayton to bat in the middle order and they wanted an opener to come in for Renshaw, so Lovell was the straight swap for him. He only played the first match as Hearne was in India playing the Aus A one dayers.

We have cut all the experience and hard heads from all of our Premier and Grade systems and virtually from the 1st class game here as well. It’s not the answer.

i'd argue we struggle to get players into state cricket earlier enough, say someone like Pope he won us the world cup at under 19 level and struggled to get a spot till this year.
The issue you talk about is correct the pathways to state level has been peeled away. But would a 19 year old learn more at state level or bowling to Adam crosthwaite?

Option 2 every time for me because it would be hard earned and you would learn a lot doing it.

There’s no learning anymore, we’ve got so many unfinished articles floating around in the system now it is scary and one cohort continue to push for Konstas to get an extended Tina’s Opener when he’s nowhere near ready

lloyd pope struggled because he averaged 50 with the ball at first class level and went at 6 an over

nothing to do with his age
