Not earth shattering stuff here but Grlj, Robey, X.Taylor and Cumming are who I keep hearing we are showing the most interest in.

I think it is worth noting that after our Bo Allan antics last year I feel we might be playing the same game with at least 1 of these names.

Essendon done a power of work with X.Taylor, so could be them.
Surely after taking Richmond fan in a trade.Taylor would be odds on @ 3

I assume Aleer told North he didn’t want to come because otherwise he does seem the perfect fit for them
Nope - Rawlings from North said they were happy with their KPD stocks and wouldn't look at Aleer. Could've got him for $1.65m over 3-years (he reportedly signed for $1.2m over 3-years at GWS). Corr is 32yo, Logue and Pink 28yo in 2026 - staggering they wouldn't have a crack at Aleer, who is not a locked in gun, but played some really good footy in 2025 and has huge upside and would provide excitement to a bland playing list.

but you have a better idea of what you are going to get than Robey, 6-8 game package ?

But anything is possible, there is probably 20 kids out there playing with their local team that just need to be given a go in the Coates League and they could shine and get drafted
But it wasn't a 6-8 game package. If I'm not mistaken he dominated junior and then senior suburban football, which is what got him his opportunity in U18's. I've watched a lot of senior suburban football, and believe me, the standard of many teams/players is very good - people are not running around unmarked and under no pressure...it's fast and tough (with a lower skill level). So this '6-8 game package' is a bit of a furphy IMO.

He knows more than us punters. I don't think anyone else has Grij going that high.
That's why we should split picks if we like him.
ESPN has him 9th, rookieme has him 12th. Fair chance at least Uwland and Patterson get bid on by either Eagles or us, maybe Annabelle too. Assuming they're matched, that'd push Grlj out to somewhere between 5-7. WGAF?

FYI ZeroHangar has us taking him at 5 in their mock. Dylan Alexander has us taking him at 4.

Farrow has become one of the more intriguing talents in the pool over the course of the season, starting the year as a mid sized rebounding defender with a penetrating and classy left boot, he ended the season playing largely through the midfield as we see in this game here, with definite shades of the Hayden Young or Ed Richards about him. Unlike other half backs that move into the middle, Farrow has already shown stoppage craft and the ability to still find space on the spread to make use of that fantastic left boot of his, although his radar was a little off in this game.

Saying a growth spurt cannot explain Robey’s rise is just stupid. He went from being smaller than his peers to suddenly being bigger, stronger and more explosive, and his game lifted exactly in line with that. That is what happens with teenagers. Kids do not all grow at the same rate. Pretending that is some unknown mystery recruiters need to “seriously question” is just ignoring how hormones and development work.

You keep saying that because there’s no younger data the club might not be as keen. Bottom-age data is important, but only when top-age data is limited. It gives recruiters a through line if a draft year is interrupted. Lalor had one 30-touch game, Hotton had three or four big ones before doing his ACL, FOS showed his class in a small sample that tied back to his U17s. As the ABC article put it: “Players like Taj Hotton … only played a few games this year. But we have enough information from their bottom-age year for them to be considered draftable.” (ABC). That context matters when there is not enough top-age data.

Robey is the opposite. He played the full season, kept improving, and was clearly Eastern’s best player across the entire finals series in a premiership side. He even played the last two games with a cracked collarbone and still delivered. Using the absence of bottom-age notes against him is backwards.

And the research backs it. The Frontiers AFL talent ID review spells out that late developers are often the ones who make it once everyone catches up: “Maturation is an important factor … differences as small as one year in puberty can have a significant effect … it is important selection does not discriminate against late-maturing players … look toward long-term athlete development rather than short-term success.” (Frontiers)

I honestly cannot believe you’ve made me read journal articles just to explain that a full season capped by being best on through the finals means more than whether there’s a bottom-age file sitting in the drawer.
OK, let's look at from when Robey played his first U18 game, until the Grand Final...about 10 x weeks. Include academy and F/S.

If that was all anyone had to go on...not a single other bit of data, vision, stat or anything. Just the vision & stats from that 10 x week stretch, what would the top-5 be in this year's draft?

I believe Sharp (BOG in multiple champs games and won the medal) and Robey would be the top-2....take your pick of the order. Anyone disagree with that?

So if a recruiter values the most recent formline as more relevant than anything else, then Robey is in the frame for top-2, let alone top-4. If a recruiter doesn't place much weight on recent form over 2-years of data, then who knows where Robey slips to.

The irony is, if Robey was injured for the first half of the U18 season and not playing suburban footy, then his reputation would be off the charts and he'd be zero chance of getting past us or Eagles.

Is any other club interested in him that high?

Listening to Tim Lamb on the radio earlier and he was very bullish on the top end having some really elite talent.

He said it would be great to bring in 8 high picks over the years which indicates they wont trade.

But when pressed on players they were keen on. He said "I wont name the player" (singular) 🤔

My 2 cents. Outside of Duursma the next 10-15 picks (or even more than that really) are super even. If Grlj fits a need there's no reason not to take him on talent level... of course if your draft/club intel suggests you can trade back and still get him then you should do that.

I think people who see ranking lists as proscriptive lists of best pick at every stage of the draft are getting it wrong.

No idea. The Giesch and Blair would know though.
From what noobermensch said the next 15 picks after Duursma are pretty even.
If there ever was a draft to split picks 3 or 4 it's this one.
I don't see the point in 'picking for needs' at pick 3 or 4 when you can probably get two of the same quality players at say picks 10 and 14.

Any plans for a Jai Murray video? Went looking and got donuts 😳
