They are a disgrace and this will all blow up spectacularly and I'm ready for it.

Not to mention SoS gets his boy in on 900k at the same time while they complain about the AFL 'nepo babies'

NAS will leave in two years and all this bravado will have been for nothing
They’ll win some marvel games for sure and look flashy.. but as we know that ain’t winning flags

Go Catters

He in no way fills a need but I thought Cameron Nairn looked a Wells-type player and I note Twomey has him around the mark on his board. Interesting more broadly to see what a strong SA does to our model this year.

Just reading Twomey’s list, without knowing a damn thing about him, Barker is another that sounds a “Wells type”. AA who did an ACL that was mooted to be a higher pick pre injury. Sound familiar?

When was the last time we did that? James Willis? Cooper Stephens? I think (hope) we've moved on from that approach.

Sorta where careers go to die, which is odd given our strike rate later in the draft.

Geelong third round picks: 2014-2024
Gregson
Gore
Ratugolea*
Jervis
Kennerly
Taheny
Stevens
Kroeger
Foster
Polkinghorne
Molier
This is Whylie Buzza erasure and i don't condone it

Also if you Whylie's year you get Menegola who was alright too i guess

Yes, it's appalling.

Ross currently being coach and acting head of football looks like a disaster.

They think they're being ruthless but clubs like us, Pies and Hawks treat players as humans, not commodities.
The pies shifted Treloar and Grundy and weren’t happy about it

George Stevens?

I originally typed George's name, but then opted to go with Charlie as I feel he's slower

George looks slow over the first few steps, but isn't too bad once he's going

Mark Blake vs Peter Street was always my dream 100m sprint match up.

I would happily keep losing to St Kilda every year if Hawthorn stayed our bunnies forever.
Fair enough. I've never had the set against the Hawks that some here possess. I've also never been as disturbed at losing games to contenders as I am irritated by dropping matches to demonstrably hopeless outfits. And it's easy to see that the Saints have very rarely lined up in anything other than that second category over the course of their whole sorry existence.

I always prefer beating the best teams.

Give me an undefeated record against Brisbane and GWS next year and I'll happily watch us lose to Richmond and North Melbourne.

Again, fair enough. I'm purely talking H&A contests here, by the way.

Any finals loss burns like fire with me.

Which is where the Saints become almost entirely ancillary to the conversation, of course. After all, perpetual irrelevance is its own reward.

Think the better comparison is probably Lang, who got injured in the last game of the carnival. Stephens didn't play at all in his draft year IIRC. Baker at least has a pretty big body of exposed form.

I understand being annoyed at losing to mediocre or poor teams, or even failing to smash them. It becomes a quirk if it's the same team but that's about where the relevance ends.

Brisbane over the past few years are an interesting case study on this matter. Often very underwhelming when strong favourites against the so-so teams. But give them a huge challenge against a top team, often away from home, and they rise to meet it almost every time. That's a better template for me than a flat track bullies profile ala Bulldogs 2024.

Didn't strike me as having many Wells qualities but good player and ultimately what would I know? Certainly has pedigree.

I'm never worried about not smashing teams. Almost any win is a 'good enough' win, in my view.

And I accept the criticism of what the Dogs dished up this year. I would never want to be like that.

In the end, I just have to acknowledge that my last 20 years or so of following the Cats have been entirely insane from a competitive point of view. It's only because we've won so many games against so many teams over so many years that the outliers you see with some limp losses to ordinary opponents actually register as something like mild annoyance in the first place. If we lost more games more often, losing a few times consecutively to sad sides like the Saints would actually become almost entirely insignificant.

There’s been a few over the years. Particularly when our first has been in the late teens as ours is again this year.

Like you, I think it’s a fraught method of drafting.

This, 1000% this.
We need genuine A grade midfield talent.

A ruck or a full forward wasn't stopping the avalanche of midfield talent Brisbane have at their disposal.
Honestly about 9 guys who can run through the guts and look comfortable.

We have to make a big move next offseason, we CAN NOT afford to be sitting on our hands (not that we ever do) while Paddy, Blics, Jez, Stewy etc are on the backend of their careers.
Time to compete is now, we must get the star midfielder to lead the way with our outside runners (Dash bros), our inside bulls (Atkins and Worpel) and our defensive mids (Mullin, Bowes, Bruhn?)

Butters or Walsh are those players.

We should not have to be playing Miers, Mannagh, Jez at stages through the guts just to offset it...that's a shortfall of a position we lack genuine talent in....not that we don't have talent there its just a glaring weakness.

That's why i'm big now on our first pick in the draft for Wells and Mack going and grabbing a ball winning mid.
I don't care what anybody says about this draft, there is talent there.

One guy i think would be a huge help in our Draft range is Sam Cumming. North Adelaide kid, 186cm so not small by any means and can win footy but the best part. He's strong, he can take a mark and he can go forward and kick goals which is something we lack. Mids who push forward to kick goals. I think we are one of the worst sides in the League for goal kicking mids. Lions are stacked with players who do it.

I get it, we have an elite forward line but we shouldn't have to rely on just forwards to kick them. Makes us more of a threat.

Here's some highlights of the kid, he looks the goods.

I'd be delighted to get Sam at the Cats, but I think he'll go before we get a pick. Will go in top 5-10 picks.
