Adelaide v North Melbourne
Saturday 18 October
Arden Street
2:35pm Adelaide time, 3:05pm Melbourne time

It's our turn to face the toughest task in the AFLW - North Melbourne. Can we cause one of the biggest upsets in AFLW history?

Only in our dreams. :(

Doesn’t look good for Chelsea’s return this week. This is from today’s injury update: “Chelsea Randall, who is recovering from concussion, continues to be closely monitored.”

Then sign on as our new coach?
Not yet. She’s far too close to the playing group to be objective.

Chelsea will coach the AFLW crows side one day, but not in 2026. Go coach somewhere else and then bring all that learnt knowledge back as a senior coach.

I think the sensible decision would be to call it quits, but footballers arent always sensible.

As much as we probably still need her on-field, for her personally there is nothing left to prove. Three-time premiership captain, five-time all-Australian (once as captain, once as VC), inaugural AFLCA AFLW best player, six-time AFLPA most courageous player, club champion in 2018. Not to mention everything she did before AFLW even started.

I hope she has good mentors in her ear.

All she needs to do is look at her son and ask herself whether she wants to remember him growing up.

Should be a simple answer.

This team’s been run more like a charity than a football club in the last couple of years. That won’t change until Clarke, Randall née Rajčić, Cramey and Harper all clear out and far more objective football brains replace them.

All are far too matey and matey and have far too close relationships with the playing group and it hampers the team’s ability to make proactive decisions on field and generally with the playing group.

You can make that argument for SLT's continued selection, but Smith?

She's going to get eaten alive by North's forward line.

They are quicker than we are, their skills are better and more polished than ours are and they apply far more pressure.

They are a far superior to us now.

Even 12 mo the ago, their skills 2 teams were even, now they are miles better than we are. We have to find a new coach and a few more younger players with the speed and endurance.

The main difference between North and the rest of the competition is their skills. They know that they can nail a kick to a lead, or execute a handball, or pull off a snap on goal. Because of that, they don't fall into the trap that we (and most other teams in the competition) do of sending extra players to the contest. Hence, they always have someone free, and there's always a player behind the ball.

We've had our opportunities, but the handball has missed the body, or the kick has fallen short, etc. Because of that, we end up getting sucked into the contest to try and win it back, while North just stick to their structure confident that their players will execute under pressure.

Skills have always been an issue for us, but it's starker than ever watching this match.

The Crows need to make some hard decisions regarding players with substandard skills. If they're not offering something else massively valuable (contested marking, electric speed, etc) then any player that can't execute skills under pressure should be phased out of the side.

Maybe when our coach decided he didn't have the fire in the belly anymore he could have done something about it before wasting a whole season while the top teams continue to go past us.

Yep. Said something similar a few weeks ago. As soon as Clark decided to finish up, the club should have said thank you for you services, but we will find someone new today.

Succession plans just don’t work. They didn’t work for Ken Hinkley and PA, they didn’t work for the Crows.

Port Adelaide will beat us next Friday night and we will miss the 8.
