Hoping for a strong season from Parish - a classy mid we have forgotten how good he can be

McMahon gets 1st crack as support for Langford/Caddy/2MP - but we have other options in Jones/Edwards/May

Our best 23 to start next year is going to be one of the most interesting watches of the off-season, a list of blooded youth fighting it out with those returning from injury and on the fringes. Expecting to see many surprises on who wins out. Those in Bold are locked if fit, then I see about 7 spots that will be up for dispute across the pre-season. Hope it brings out the best of those fighting for the places.

Personally I only have those 20 as (if fit) pretty certain to start the year.

There’s three more spots there that really could be anybody’s for mine. Whoever jumps up in pre-season - current players or draftees - could nab a spot.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if Blakiston is #1 ruck to start the year. I reckon he’s a goer and a competitor which is a big part of being a ruck. With Bryan coming off injury.

I wouldn’t play them both as I think Wright is the best option as relief ruck, he gives more up forward.

I don't mind him shaping up to play on a loose half back, but then running off him and backing that his hurt factor will be much higher, and also be forward of centre. Merrett kicking inside 50 15 times could lead to 10 shots on goal. Then they'll probably tighten up on him after quarter time

I hope Blackison trains in all three thirds of the ground this pre-season. It would be great to have someone who is forward and 2nd ruck who can go back to defence in a pinch. That could be to cover an injury or swing Reid, McKay or Ridley forward.
