Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

How are we landing Robey?

Aside from trading out some of our future first rounders?

And why would tigers/bombers do that?
I imagine it would be 9 + 11, and Sydney’s 2027 first for 3 or 4 + some later picks this year to match bids. Both the bombers and tigers have expressed interest in moving back down the draft

Improve the list, not look for a gun, incremental improvements not a “quick fix”
Agree ... target the Guns when we have our Act together and are in a Premiership window.
Now is a massive waste. Voss & Co have a lot of progress to make before reaching that level

Hmm? ... some may say you don't make it to a Premiership window without Guns.

Does anyone know if we’re looking for any stop gap replacement for Charlie

I thought Chris Burgess was a solid player and would have played more as third forward for the crows if it wasn’t for Tex and their powerful tall forward mix

Might be worth a look?

Or if not him any others that could do a job as KPF

I’m not sure we need one to be honest.

Hudson O’Keefe and Lewis Young can easily play the 2nd tall forward/relief ruck role.

We’re a lot more dynamic now with the likes of Hayward and Ainsworth supporting Moir, Motlop, Evans, Harry, Zac etc in the forward line.

From observing the BF draft 'ITK's' on this board, Robey would be about the only kid suitable worth trading up for. We'd need to be certain of getting him to go down this path and would it be worth the cost.
Lindsay,Grilj or Cumming would still probably be available at a less costly pick.

Robey looks perfect for the modern game … Powerhouse mid/forward.
Slot him in amongst Walsh Smith Walker Cerra and Lord/Camporeale and our midfield looks so potent going forward.
He/they will also have the protection and guidance of Cripps and Hewett for a few more seasons yet.
I’d take luck out of the equation and offer WC picks 9,11 and Sydney F27 first pick for pick 2 with hopefully a little something coming back.
Take Robey Dean Ison this year.
Take Walker next year and Amartey for nothing as a FA and we’re ready to rock n roll in 2027 !!

Florent Weitering Dean
Cowan O’Farrell Chesser
Walsh Cripps Hollands
Hayward Amartey Robey
Moir McKay Ainsworth

O’Keefe Cerra Smith

Walker Ison Kemp Motlop Lord Wilson

Don’t get why anyone would even be thinking about Butters.

The way we are positioning ourselves the last thing we would want to do is spend a huge amount of resources on a gun mid.
We have mids covered moving forward, we need to be looking at bringing in more A/High B grade talent not Guns.

Improve the list, not look for a gun, incremental improvements not a “quick fix”
Our midfield is not that crash hot, we badly lack pace and agility. What he would bring could well elevate us to genuine contender.

We have Cerra who is unreliable, Cripps and Hewett at the wrong ends of their careers and Walsh who has a dodgy back.

You bring in Butters who is a top level fast, agile modern day midfielder, you pair that with Cripps and Hewett while they are still going, push Cerra out to a wing where as a young player he was looking to be elite. You allow Smith and Walker the luxury to develop on the flanks instead of having them bashed up playing on the ball.

Butters also takes the attention away from Walsh and prolongs his career and takes the hard attention he gets away which allows him to impact more.

That's what you do, that is what the really top sides do.

We take Butters and win a flag with him, Hewett and Cripps going strong and Cerra, Walker Smith etc playing wings and flanks and rotating through there.

Then Cripps and Hewett retire and you re-adjust things around Walsh, Butters, Walker and Smith. Probably with Lord and Camporeale and win more flags. If Ison works out and we happen to also take someone like Robey then we start to trade out midfielders. It's that easy.

A quick fix works when you are already a good side and we should be a good side in 2027. A quick fix is the difference between making a prelim or QF and winning a flag in this situation.

Who knows, we might get to the end of 2026 and see bigger holes but I feel we won't.

As it stands, if Butters is an option, we should try and trade for him, keep his salary under control. Port may or may not do that.

Armary is average. 2 or 3 yr contract is ok. No way 5 yr free agency deal.
If Armaty is average wirh quality delivery on the SCG, he could be worse in victoria & he will be 28 so will not get better Type of player who gets a grand father offer from Tassie

Is there a chance those clubs would want extra picks?

Would picks 9 and 11 to Essendon get us Picks 5 and 21? Would that be worth it for us or them? I am sure we have an idea of what the draft order is and so will other clubs so it's hard to say.

I can’t see us getting butters and walker .. port would match and want those draft picks …how do we justify coming out of a period of over paying and winning nothing to doing it again … also the fact , has any team won a premiership paying 1 player way overs more than their team mates … I wouldn’t do it
Unless Port finish bottom 3 then the compensation may be better than multiple picks in teens

If we use 9 and 11 to move into the Top 5 but don’t draft Robey, would the people wanting Robey be satisfied with who we might draft?
Duursma and Robey are the only interests to me in the top 5. Otherwise I'd rather try and get Lindsay/Cumming/Grlj around our current pick.

With a very even top 5-15 group it's really about who would fit our list the best. Someone like Sharp or Greeves may be equal in talent to a Lindsay type but they're miles apart in terms of how much they could add to our current list in terms of complimentary attributes.

Richmond. By the length of the straight.

I'm backing Vossy but the other two?

Not entitled. He just demanded success. Club couldn't deliver.

I don't understand how people can forget what they did for the club. It's forever etched in my mind.
His dad I’d hell bent on destroying the club

From what I could tell you listed him as one of our 5 midfielders going forward, is that including wings? Based on the Brisbane list and the current Carlton list I assumed it was our on ball brigade and wings were separate.

Oh.. nah just listing names. Hopefully Lord and BenC develop into the additional inside options. Wing has been a big weakness of ours, I'll bang the drum again, but Walsh needs to play there as well going forward. It just doesn't make sense to play him inside.

By 2028:

C: Walsh Walker McInerny

Fol: Reidy? Smith Robey? or Rowell?

Outside: Chesser, Lucas, Ollie
Inside: Lord, BenC
Fwd/Mids: Ison, Ainsworth, Cripps, Robey? or Humphrey?

Something like that should be our target imo

So contenders like Port & Dogs?

Butters, JHF, Rozee, Bergman, Drew, Wines, Boak, Burgoyne

Bontempelli, Richards, Freijah, Liberatore, Sanders, Kennedy, Treloar

I think Butters will be a trade regardless, but from a matched FA offer. Big offer, big trade.

He’s not sacrificing $500k per year just to be nice to us.

Still much rather put the contract and trade collateral require for butters into 2 or 3 players rather than all eggs in the butters basket.

As much as I'd love Butters, not in the open Market. Now, if he said he wanted us and only us, then maybe we'd get him at a reasonable wage. Can't afford to spend 1.5+M on a single player.
