No it’s not.The points system isn’t just about academies and father sons, it’s a way of valuing what a pick is worth and then used to determine the value of a player trade ie
If player is valued at pick 20 but said club doesn’t have the pick, the points system determines what should happen, if you go back through trades from years ago clubs would just have to accept whatever the club has, this is not the case anymore
That's very arguable that Ah Chee is better than ANB. Dees let him go for being a good servant of the club, they probably took slight unders for ANB who was CONTRACTED and your club couldn't take a fair deal for an OUT OF CONTRACT player.ah chee is a better play than Neal bullen and a year younger
I know we're all sad sacks posting here, but it probably being just a touch dramatic to be comparing AFL trading to American Slavery. And there it is. The crux of this conversation - arrogance borne through winning, which was borne through handouts.
Plantation owners were also winners, sh*t blokes who took advantage of people, but winners![]()
Yes, it's been rather enjoyableImagine trying to flex when the afl has held your dick for the better half of 2 decades. Must be nice being able to pick up father sons with 100 games experience while also tapping into afl funded academies.

It’s also used to rubber stamp pick-only trades, or it was (I think the AFL likes to pretend that rule doesn’t exist at the moment, but they could crack down again in future). No it’s not.
The points system has absolutely no relevance except for when dealing with academy or F/S selections.
Wrong thread for it but there’s no reason with regard to competitive balance for teams not to have access to whatever players (academy/father-son) at any given point. The DVI is supposed to take care of that and it seems that it has with the latest changes. Teams that finish higher on the ladder simply don’t have the capital to raid contracted players and take father-sons and take academy players. They are having to choose and the remainder land elsewhere. You're suggesting northern clubs should be blocked from F/S? Seriously, what a ridiculous argument! It's not our fault the rules allow F/S and we happen to have had a few goods ones come through at about the same time. But I guess we were supposed to just "do the right thing" and ???? turn them away or something, because . . .unfair to the rest of the comp!!!
That's what your club would have done, right?
Anyway, I'm sure Tex has been spraying it around a bit though so you probably just need to wait a while.
Not Dom's though.
Well we did just pick cotton..i mean indy cotton as a cat b playerI know we're all sad sacks posting here, but it probably being just a touch dramatic to be comparing AFL trading to American Slavery.
Make no mistake, Ah Chee would have already re-signed with Brisbane long ago if we were offering the same money as Adelaide... yes Ah Chee has connections in Adelaide, but that is not the reason he's leaving and missing out on the chance of a 3-peat.That's very arguable that Ah Chee is better than ANB. Dees let him go for being a good servant of the club, they probably took slight unders for ANB who was CONTRACTED and your club couldn't take a fair deal for an OUT OF CONTRACT player.
You've spoken to Callum I take it and he told you?Make no mistake, Ah Chee would have already re-signed with Brisbane long ago if we were offering the same money as Adelaide... yes Ah Chee has connections in Adelaide, but that is not the reason he's leaving and missing out on the chance of a 3-peat.
Sorry to offend you buddy - you can choose not to believe it, if that makes you feel better. He'll be a great pick up for you, if he gets to you guys...You've spoken to Callum I take it and he told you?
No would have been suffice thanks.Sorry to offend you buddy - you can choose not to believe it, if that makes you feel better. He'll be a great pick up for you, if he gets to you guys...
I responded in the same spirit you asked the questionNo would have been suffice thanks.
What a load of rubbish! Ah Chee doesn't know where he's playing next year right now because Justin Reid refused to pay a fair price for him despite courting him for months before the season ended. You think Ah Chee doesn't care that he is already on Adelaide's list with a life changing contract?
Sure he will get a good pay day, but the Lions have now made where he will be moving his young family uncertain for the next month. Great way to treat a 2x premiership hero, because the Lions wanted to get greedy over picks, because picks are worth less to you given you get so many cheap academy & father son talent.
He likely gets to the Crows, but in the eyes of most of the footy world, the Lions treatment of Ah Chee is awful to put him through a month of uncertainty.
He's uncontracted & was never staying despite the delusion of your list manager & many of your supporters who have failed to come to terms that he wanted to move on for his next challenge.
Lions are the big loser, because not only did they throw away a pick in the 20's or a future 2nd & 3rd rounder, they have damaged their reputation.
Well we did just pick cotton..i mean indy cotton as a cat b player
1st rounder isn't fair price. What a load of rubbish! Ah Chee doesn't know where he's playing next year right now because Justin Reid refused to pay a fair price for him despite courting him for months before the season ended.
You celebrating that eh?You’re about as charming as that young fella in your photo who got some lead caught in his neck
They asked for a pick slide not a first rounder outright. Stop fibbing.1st rounder isn't fair price.
Simples
They wanted a slide & 2nd rounder! They asked for a pick slide not a first rounder outright. Stop fibbing.
Uhh... yeah? As I said... Fair price. They wanted a slide & 2nd rounder!
Stop fibbing!
No, you said they wanted just a slide. They wanted more. Far more than market value, so getting greedy they lose him through the PSD.Uhh... yeah? As I said... Fair price.
They asked for a pick slide not a first rounder outright. Stop fibbing.
Hmmm... I'm not seeing where I used this word. Either way, a 2nd rounder and a favourable pick slide is more than fair for a bloke who almost won a Norm Smith medal last year. No, you said they wanted just a slide. They wanted more. Far more than market value, so getting greedy they lose him through the PSD.
Simples.
Crying? Ah Chee gets to Adelaide for free. Good deal.If your club was smart they would have been trading with the northern clubs to get their first rounders. Your club isn't so keep crying.
