The Sweet FA is all about connections.
Connections for recruitment, connections to teammates and ex-teammates, connections to club history. In fact we're all connected by less than six degrees of separation from Mobbs one way or another, but that's another thread.
For those who haven't had the pleasure yet, I've been running a bit of a weekly quiz in our match threads. Well, it's more like a 'guess who' but that's semantics.
And as I've been picking out players for the quiz each week, it's been an interesting exercise to start to recognise some hidden and sometimes surprising connections across the league.
Now straight off the top it goes without saying, this piece wouldn’t have come about without the tireless work and incredible gift of Sweet FA+ that the legendary Hate has bestowed on all of us to make almost any statistical slash historical based media these days. But it should be said over and over because Hate is a king amongst men and should be thanked in every single media piece that leverages his resource. Thank you Hate, you bloody superstar you.
So this week, I wanted to test the Bears out and rather than pick some absolute spud list clogger no one even remembers is on their team, I went deep.
I picked Wise Guy Sam in the end. But as I was looking for targets, I realised I could have used the same set of hints for about half a dozen players with a very unique career history/trajectory.
Looking at his career achievements, I picked out these unique career markers:
- Bears player (former)
- Premiership player (but not at the Bears)
- All-SFA selection
Now with that combo not only did it fit the bill for WSG... but also for pantskyle, DemonJim, Quivorir, Barrybran, Broken maybe more.
I then went even narrower with the criteria, adding into the mix 'former Gumbies player'. Now surely there couldn't be more than one of those?

Yeah that's what I thought too, Baz. But I was wrong. It only ruled out Jum and Broken. In fact, even if we upped the All-SFA selections to multiple, Barrybran himself would be another who met that criteria. Same as pants, WSG.
What about chucking in a Mobbs Medal for good measure? Still didn't narrow it down.

What is the most obscure collection of player accolades you can possibly find more than one of?
Or, what is the most surprisingly specific set of career achievements that somehow have a handful of players who've achieved it?
I'll dig out a few gems along the way, but feel free to peruse the amazing SweetFA+ and come up with some unique connections to share!!
