’s time at the Geelong Cats has come to a close, with the midfielder not offered a contract for 2026.

Guthrie enjoyed a decorated 240-game career at the Cats, after being selected with pick 23 in the 2010 National Draft, making his debut in Round 1 of the 2011 season, playing two games in his first year.

Sadly, on a long enough timeline, your body becomes a traitor. That timeline is extremely short for professional athletes.

I hope he finds success in whatever he chooses to do from here.

Was a star in the 2022 Grand Final, but only 10 games out of 74 since then and no games in 2025 I think its time to pull the pin.

Clearly he would have been tapped on the shoulder and given the chance to retire, a situation with more grace than how it's played out.
It seems highly unlikely, but maybe another club will take a chance on him? But it's an interesting, and somewhat sad, case study in particular players that have a competitive drive which over-rides their ability to objectively see where they're at in their career.

Im not thrilled he has been delisted and not given the chance to retire - maybe he was and we dont know it - but it doesnt look great in some respects perhaps.... but yeah.. Thanks Cam.... the original Guthrie. Underrated.

Given the injury problems he's had over the last 2 years and his age, I'm not surprised. But Cam has been an outstanding player for the Cats in his day, and I can only thank him as a supporter for that. I wish him well for whatever comes next in his life.
